Robert Collins got a reaction from noone in Sony A7R IV - can confirm colour is still SH**!
The 'brand loyalty' argument is both naive and simplistic. Afterall, almost by definition, a Sony user has 'switched' from another brand over the past 5 years.
The fact is that Sony has a lot of strengths for photography especially mirrorless - it just so happens that 'color' isnt one of them.
Also straight out of camera color isnt that important to most photographers as with raw it is always something that you can easily adjust in post. And for those that straight out of camera color is important - they probably arent using Sony.
My feeling with Sony though is that their color problems are mostly to do with their 'auto white balance'....

I agree that there are people out there making a ton of money from youtube (and that they probably understate how much they are actually making.) The problem though with youtube is that people 'underestimate' the difficulty of becoming a successful youtuber.
We all live in our own youtube bubbles where our 'feed' essentially consists of videos from youtubers who have already made it in some form or another and we dont see the millions who dont in any way make it.
Ultimately youtube is a business everyone wants to do and for which the only barrier to entry is the cost of a smartphone. From that perspective it is probably the most competitive business in the world.

I like the fact that Sony has finally decided to compromise the size for better thermals. Also they seem to have prioritized bit rate (hopefully) and frame rate over 6k or 8k....

Robert Collins got a reaction from BTM_Pix in Problem With Samsung T5 Drive After Using It With iPad
I had a very similar problem with a T5 a couple of months ago (admittedly when ipadOS was in beta). Ipad wrote to the T5 but then neither my PC or laptop would recognize the drive. The data wasnt critical so I reformatted the drive and it was ok. Thought it might be an Apple/Windows problem.
The Gnarbox 2 is a great piece of kit by the way.

Lets get the negatives out of the way.
The file management restrictions of iOS (which were beyond LumaTouch's control) were a major hassle but that has by and large now been addressed with the release of iPadOS.
Another drawback, which again is beyond their control, is that there is no support for ProRes. This may not be an issue for many users but it does rule out being able to use it even with any non-RAW footage from the BM cameras without transcoding so it is something to bear in mind. Ditto if you're using an Atomos etc as the recording medium for a DSLR/Mirrorless.
The restriction to one LUT isn't great if you're using LOG or any flat profile that requires a corrective LUT as you then can't add a "creative" LUT on top of that.
Some sort of stabilisation would be welcome, although there are stabilising apps for iOS that you can pre-process your footage if you don't mind the extra step/time.
    On the upside....
The biggest upside is that there is plenty of upside.
LumaFusion isn't just a very good editing app for iOS, its a very good editing app full stop.
I initially started using LumaFusion strictly as an in the field editing system for cutting and transmitting pre-match build up pieces in sports stadiums but I actually found I liked it enough to use it as an editor in a lot of non mobile situations where I would normally have used FCPX.
Its fast, responsive, logical and unless you have that need for using ProRes and/or multiple LUTS then it can be all the editing system most people actually need.
The integration with the Gnarbox 2.0 looks pretty compelling, albeit it at a price, but it glues everything together as a viable professional system with ingesting, transcoding and backups etc.
The XML export update is very close to release which will move the story on quite a bit as well as you can then do the edit on your iPad and then finish it off in your "real" desktop NLE if you need the extra options so you can have the best of both worlds.
One other thing to note is that everyone that I've ever dealt with at LumaTouch has been helpful and friendly and you can see by how far the system has developed that they care about developing it further and listening to users.
Having said all of that though and returning to your original question of can it be used in lieu of Resolve then you need to look at how deeply you use the extra functionality of Resolve and how often you would come up against the bumps in the road that I've outlined.
If you are just using h264/265 files with a picture profile that can be corrected with the inbuilt controls and you only then need one "creative" LUT then the chances are it could be all you need. If you are using Cinelike D and then the Leeming LUT for example as a corrective and then always add a film simulation LUT on top then you've immediately got a problem.
You should go to their website and download the User Guide to gauge how restrictive its features may or may not be for the way you would use it.

I finally released my last feature in streaming. It's now on Amazon's Prime Video here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZHRZ782
    It's a Drama/vengance/thiller type
I little bit of history with this.
I started to shot this film in the end of 2013 (yes almost 7 years). It took almost 3 years in production. It was shot with a couple of Nikons DSLRs and Super 16mm film. Since it's first screening in the Mar Del Plata International Film Festival in 2016, the film was going around thru some festivals and other screenings. It finally got a theatrical release locally (Argentina) in march this year. It's preaty hard to get distribution to some "kind" of movies.
As you can see, this is a very looong process when you are a "newcomer" in the business, but you just to keep pushing.
I still have in plan try to reach some other platforms. Only time will tell.

According to Phillip Bloom who is testing Lumafusion 2.1, it should be released 'any day now'. I doubt it will have the changes you want but it will definitely have exporting xml for integration with Premiere and FCP.

The gnarbox 2 is the real deal when it comes to this... (had it a few weeks)
As SD card back up it is 'ok fast' - seems to match it 75MB/s claims - also does a checksum to verify the back up - lets you backup to the Gnarbox and an external SSD simultaneously.
Integration with Lumafusion, Lightroom CC, Photo Mechanic (via the selects app) is spot on. Wifi transfer is fast and it lets you do usb-c transfer too (over 200MB/s on my pc.) You can do in and out points straight from the Gnarbox in Lumafusion and then it only imports the in/out footage. Wish there was better integration with Premiere Pro.
Yes, it is expensive but way better than some of the alternatives I have wasted money on (Gnarbox 1/WD passport pro).

This is a really interesting comment especially amongst a  Group of people that really actually respect intellectual property rights (my background is more 'property is theft'). But surely the whole point of Colonel Saunders (KFC) is that his 'recipe' is a big 'secret' because you cant patent a 'recipe'. What you need for a patent is an 'individual ingredient' and while redescribing a bayer array might sound like one it clearly isnt...

The small hole is actually to reduce the amount of material required, thus saving 0.23 cents/unit on manufacturing costs. It's the compromise they made in order to afford the 24p license.

Robert Collins reacted to EthanAlexander in How many sales are Canon losing from enthusiasts due to video shenanigans?
There are so few limitations to the lenses you can mount to Sony E. I left Canon video in 2014 and was using adapted EF lenses. Now I'm transitioning to native E glass because it's generally much lighter and smaller (and according to DXO, much sharper), especially since IBIS means there's no need for huge IS glass.
I do find the new RF glass intriguing but there's no way I'm going back to Canon. I'd literally rather try any other company at this point. Nikon, Panasonic, Blackmagic, Fuji...

That is preposterous it really is. The 1D X Mark II cannot compete with the X-H1 on pricing, size, weight, codec, file sizes, 120fps quality, handheld shooting, stabilisation, ergonomics, EVF or LOG. And that is just the features off the top of my head.
The video market knows exactly what it wants and the 1D X Mark II isn't it.
Otherwise they'd be a big thread about it here but there isn't.
And when I reviewed it, it didn't exactly set a discussion going with hundreds of people saying "this is for me". I liked it in 2016 for stills and for giving the 1D C Dual Pixel AF - but losing Canon LOG and increasing the crop factor left a sour taste for my $6k.
The 1D X Mark II is a superb pro stills camera and I used it as such... With Canon's best looking 4K outside of the 1D C... But it just isn't practical. Paying that much money to shoot MJPEG in 4K, massive file sizes, losing the EVF and IBIS, very important features... Why? Along with introducing moire in 1080p and 120fps, all I can say you must really need it as a stills camera to buy it in 2019.
    It's a dodo.
In 2019 I would use the X-H1 every time instead.

Robert Collins got a reaction from Topcat in Canon EOS M6 Mark II 4K is "pixel binned 3K" and Sony A6600 old sensor debacle "due to internal politics"
I think that the reason Sony is showing no real love for APSC is because it wants its customers to migrate to FF (sensor manufacturer wants customers to buy larger sensors!!)
This is where Sony has its competitive advantage - the A7r4 is two generations ahead of what Canon and Nikon offers (for stills) - as well as the widest lens offerings.
So look at pretty much any a6600 review and it says - dont but it, buy the A7iii. Of course they will lose dedicated apsc enthusiasts to Fuji but I guess that is just collateral damage.
There has to be a question of how dedicated Sony really is to the video market (beyond providing the basics.) Their focus definitely seems to be on the 'bigger' stills picture. I guess we will find out if when we get the A7siii. In the longer run, I think Sony will find it difficult to compete with Panasonic in video - simply because Panasonic focused on 'video'...
