EthanAlexander reacted to andrgl in Z-cam E2-M4 is worth a second look now that it does Pro Res internally at all frame rates including 4k @ 120fps, 4K 2.4:1 @ 160fps & 1080p @ 240fps.
Can’t wait for their next gen camera. Literally only need to sort out 2 issues:
    - External monitoring: lag, soft image, SDI-out in body.
    - E-Mount that doesn’t suck. Viltrox nerfed the first iteration.

I actually think they have one of the best naming conventions in the whole industry. All the cameras are in the E2 generation, but M4 is m43 4K, S6 is s35 6K, F6 is FF 6K, and F8 is FF 8K. Compare that to a7siii, FX3, C70, etc. when trying to judge specs at a glance. Even Blackmagic's convoluted naming at least lets you know what the cameras offer 😅

Z-cam looks to be here to stay. There were rumors of shortages of the processor Z-cam uses, but their entire product line is in stock at BH Photo except for the original E2. Z-cam also looks to be introducing a competitor to the Red Komodo with the release of the Z CAM E2-S6G Super 35mm 6K Cinema Camera (Global Shutter) due in April.
So, with what appears to be a stable company and expanding product line, it is worth taking a second look at the E2-M4 now that Z-cam has now released firmware 0.98.0 that enables Pro Res recording at all frame rates on the E2-M4. This includes 4k @ 120fps, 4K 2.4:1  @ 160fps & 1080p @ 240fps in Pro Res, so you don't have the overhead of decoding H265.

A natural comparison is to the Blackmagic Pocket 4k, which has a few advantages:
    1. 12bit BRAW
    2. LCD Screen
    3. SD Card Recording
    4. $200 cheaper
    5. AC to DC power supply included
    6. About 1/2 lbs lighter

Some of the E2-M4 advantages are:
    1. 4k @ 120p and 4k 2.4:1 @ 160fps slow-motion recorded to Pro Res internally as well as un-cropped 1080p @ 240p for super-slow motion but it does line skip.
2a. Wireless video monitoring to iPhone or iPad (or both at the same time) with only 100ms delay, which better than many less expensive wireless HDMI solutions when you add the HDMI latency of the camera HDMI out.
2b. You can also plug in your iPhone into the USB C port via a cable and it will take the place of the wireless link and charge your phone at the same time as well as ensure a reliable connection.
2c. The app functions much like a real monitor with 1080p resolution, peaking, scopes etc as well as does camera control.
    3. 5-pin Limo to dual balanced mic pre inputs with phantom power (adapter cable required)
    4. Interchangeable lens mounts including a optional locking M4/3 mount as well as an EF or PL that can take their variable electronic ND (the M4/3 and M4/3 locking can not take the vari-ND) There is a mount with a built in speed booster.
    5. Box camera so it is a better shape to balance on a gimbal.
6a. Different sensor than the Blackmagic Pocket 4k that does not have the magenta shift at when under exposing
6b. This sensor is significantly taller than the Pocket 4k sensor so it is much better for shooting anamorphic.
6c. The combination of difference sensor and Z-Cam color science and color profiles provide a different look and some will prefer it to the Blackmagic 4K.
    7. Expanded ISO limits depending on your shooting mode up to 102,400  vs  25,600 of the  Blackmagic Pocket 4k.
    8. HDMI output can output up to 4k depending on the shooting mode.
9a. Large, more powerful, longer lasting battery options using the Sony L-Series.
9b. Power output from the camera to power a monitor.
    10. Can shoot ProRes RAW via recording to the Ninja V. (not really an advantage if you use Resolve due to BRAW support)
    11. Live streaming via Ethernet port.

As they in Spinal Tap: these go to 11.

For an extra $200, it is worth considering the Z-cam E2-M4, especially if you are a Final Cut Pro user, if you own an Ninja V, or if you own a Ronin S.  Here's part 1 or a great 3 part review of the E2-M4 by Adam Wilt: https://www.provideocoalition.com/review-z-cam-e2-m4-mft-cine-camera-part-1/

The thing about the comparison to stills photography you're making is that there was only ever jpeg and raw, so obviously raw was the way to go. But now there are high efficiency compressed stills formats that are changing things.
Plus, storage costs are a huge factor in maintaining profitability. I for one love having robust 10 bit compressed codecs so I can maximize margin.

Wait for the Sony FX6 as well.
    Exactly!
Heck, even the internal 10bit for some cameras is better than the same camera's raw output. (am looking at you Sony FS7!)
The Canon C70 as an A Cam is aimed at low (perhaps mid) budget professional work (ultra low budget work uses mirrorless/DSLRs for their A Cam). They don't need or want raw in 95% of the shoots.
Doesn't matter when Anamorphic AF lenses don't exist!
They differentiate by being the best (or at least, thought of as that) when it comes to image quality.

And by being incredibly good when it comes to overall workflow/ecosystem for the productions they're aimed at.

It is strange, until I remember a key lesson from economics:
    "People have unlimited wants".
And that people will blur the line between "wants" and "needs".
(this is one of the key reasons why socialism will always fail. Because even if you can give everything that people want/need right now, that won't be enough! As people will have expectations inflation, and will have a new higher level of demands. Thus you always need a way to allocate scarce resource efficiently, which is exactly what price signals to. You abolish price signals, and you abolish the ability to effectively allocate resources to get the most out of them)

We're talking two unreleased cameras, but the internal NDs, mini XLRs, higher framerate 4K, and superior autofocus would make the Canon a clear winner over the S5 for docs.
Unless you literally have to have two cameras for $4000, in which case there's no point comparing them.

Assuming the crop is 1.5 (it could be 1.6).
    24*1.5*0.71 = 25.5
    F4*1.5*0.71 = 4.26

Did you not read that link at all??
The answers are all right there to your questions.
As for who the person is, doesn't really matter as I don't need to indulge in an 'appeal to authority fallacy' to make this point.
Because you can look up the data yourself (from WHO/China themselves, the officially reported numbers. Which is exactly why you should take them with a big grain of salt!!), then run the figures yourself and get exactly the same result as was shared in that chart.

It really is not that hard to do at all! You don't need a degree in mathematics to do it or understand it.

Being able to repeat the results yourself is far far more important than the author having some fancy pants credentials. If you think he made a mistake, then run the numbers yourself and show us the mistake he made. (hint: he didn't, if you repeated this you'd get the same fit)

Doesn't an R squared value of 0.9995 raise any question marks with you whatsoever?

Even if you somehow skipped math at high school, just simply looking at its predictive power (he was spooky accurate!) should raise suspicions with you?

Did you read the ELI5 comment at least in that thread?

Wouldn't be the first (or last!) time the Chinese government have been caught making up data:

This is not what I call "blatant example." Where is the data coming from? What are the variables used for this "model"? Who is the author? What's his/her credential? Did he/she published anything in the recognized scientific literature?
Unless, we get serious answers from these questions, this is pure internet garbage.

Also agree with that. On the other hand, the Flu is is a well known virus with available vaccine and organized disease management which also explains the low mortality rate. On the contrary it also justifies the containment measure taken against the Corona virus. If anything, the SARS was not very worrisome. It appears that the progression of the virus is now on the decreasing phase in China, thanks to the vigorous actions taken by the authorities over there... To be confirmed.
The Chinese government is not a model of transparency but they remember how bad the 2003 SARS situation was managed and all the health organizations agree that there is a huge improvement this time (albeit, not perfect). I don't really believe in massive cover up for two reasons:
    1. The information always comes out, especially in an age of social media despite the digital great wall in China
    2. But more importantly, the virus is now hitting strong democracies like South Korea and European nations. These countries won't be able to hide anything if bodies start to pile up in complete contradiction with official statements. So even is China lied, the mortality rate in the other countries will be public knowledge very soon.

According to public health specialists, the real challenge will come when poor countries will be impacted because they have very little resources to handle that and unlike Ebola, the world is already busy enough with domestic situations. To make matter worse, the limited supply of protective equipment and medicine coming out of China won't be prioritized to Africa or south Asia...
That's all for me. I'm not going to step any further in this discussion because I'm not a doctor or a virologist and my point of view is pointless beyond this general statement.

    The facts behind the panic:
Corona virus death toll so far after two months of existence: 3000 persons Mortality rate is about 2-3% and old people are the most vulnerable, about 80% of deaths recorded were from those over the age of 60, and 75% had pre-existing health conditions including cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. (source: WHO) What should really be a cause of concern:
Nearly 1.35 million people die in road crashes each year, on average 3,698 deaths a day. Flu Kills 646,000 People Worldwide Each Year. 1769 per day average Stroke killed 5,000,000 people worldwide in 2016 Nearly 40,000 People Died From Guns in U.S. in 2017 Leading causes of death in the US in 2017:
Heat disease: 647,457 deaths Cancer: 599,108 deaths Unintentional injuries / accidents: 169,936 deaths So we may want to take a huge chill pill. Eat healthy, double check left and right twice before crossing the street, put the seat-belt on and stop worrying about a small pandemic of a not so dangerous virus. That being said, the public safety measures and large gathering restrictions are totally justified to prevent the spread of the disease, Photokina or the Olympic Games are clearly not a priority at this point.
