Nice theme, I think. Simply, I need a more complex language to express - or, better, striving to express - more complex thoughts and feelings.
To be honest, I don't think that photography could be (for Westernian type of mind) in all extensity - repeat: in all extensity - form of art as great literature or classic music. Yes, it has precious dignity of skills and taste and knowledge. Yes there are great photo testaments of compassion and capability to extricate significant moment from banality - and as so, help to better experience the world. (And yes, I little disagree with Susan Sonthag and agree with Walter Benjamin.) Maybe it is similar to haiku poetry.
But it is impossible to express - or, better - to completely involve, as sort of full-senses initiation, other man in haiku as in, say, Beethoven's Eroica.
Further thinking, it seems to me that photography maybe is much more closer to sort of feeling/thinking/expression of Eastern mind? There always existed that wonderful feeling for moment, for profound non-ego encounter with mistery of nature and existence.
Western greek/judeochristian civillization and state of mind always relayed on inner and outer drama, complexity, struggle, personality - and its picks of art and distinctive philosophy are such that can embrace world of turmoil complexity, as in Servantes, Goya, Shakespeare, Dostoyevski, Beethoven-to-Mahler/Shostakovich symphonies...
Probably that's the reason why I'm longing for video/movie as language, greatly respecting type of mind and spirit that stay behind profound photography masters.

It's a common German surname (I'm not German, I'm American) but part of my family is descended from south Germany, although on my father's side we've been living here in the States since colonial times. In fact we had some personal conflicts with Thomas Jefferson, as he tried to hang one of my great grandfathers for treason against the United States for his loyalty to the King of England. A lot of ppl don't know that during those times no one trusted anyone, and George Washington wasn't a trusted figure at all either.
Also have relatives that fought in the civil war.
We are related to Lisa Hartman, the wife of Clint Black.
Sorry, a bit of a history buff.

I fully expect it will one day. At least, manufacturers seem to pour a lot of resources into trying.

It becomes strange... such a triumphal tone on scene... supported by onomatopeic signs: LOL :D *cough cough*... what's next level Emanuel? Did you sometimes read your lines and conclusions or always acts as baby: People that don't think as you are: "crippled by mother nature", idiots tied for objects thеy "already left their pennies for"... while you are martyr who was "crucified" in this forum, forced to keep "tongue at cheek". Now I'm professionally interested: what do you think, now when you are obviously show all of us your full selfadmiration glory after being crucified... will you resurect with Fuji roll-off traces to us ignorants?

It's not problem to sell GH5 and Voigtlanders. I have long way behind in testing/playing/shooting cameras and lenses, and I somehow managed to always keep minimal and best suited for my needs. So it is not too hard to get also and Fuji - if it's necessary I have many friends and.... well, supporters, abroad. But I like to try, am open to every advance steps, although shooting is my third- or fourth-ish activity. I waited Fuji to get IBIS, playing with friend's XT2. But from what I've seen so far - all in all, as semiprofessional tool, it suits to my needs less than GH5.

Yes, but as I learned from this topic, what you called mashed oranges and blues is highly esteemed image and make huge impression to some masters who are not "crippled by mother nature" - to quote courteous Mr Emanuel. Very interesting experience: trying to express some doubts about Fuji color strategy - judging from these examples - results here as hardest blasphemy!

Maybe the best clip for argument of manufacturer mastery - from Fuji corp. itself.
But, for me at least, also and best exmple for my judge: translating result of photo-optimized color science to serious movie area is not 1=1 solution. While every shot looks noticable beautiful to the hyperrealistic level - after a while for me it becomes distracting, or even disturbing. It keeps to much attention to itself, to shine colors, and drain attention from the flow of the fable... Sorry for pathetic formulation, but I think we don't see world as vibrant as Fuji tries to suggest.... For fast shots, for any sort of presentation tending to fascinate - it works without doubt and it is very nice achievement. But for involving spectator into the world - not: this type of color strategy cries "Look how nice it looks!" - and keep you maybe mesmerized, but - outside.

Now I don't know what to think... two authorities which I equally deeply respect suggest me different attitude... Emanuel: "Imagery is not real, it is always fake!" ... Matthew Hartman: "Trust your eye"... And it seems there's no Mattias to resolutely resolve this dilema... Moreover sage Webrunner is still mute about that question, which is significant sign. There's no even good sober Jon Pais with his dancers from American in Vietnam movie to help... Damn!
All in all, I feel myself little bit confused and desperate... Last time I remember similar filling was when Krishna explained to me something about reality at the field of Kurukshetra, but I was too stupid to understand.

Two for you! From the moment I became aware of myself - akka 3 years old - I immediately begun to suspect that I'm not prone to Fuji vibrancy siren's call because I came to the earth from atmosphere... No I know it is true... Thanks man!

Am I off in saying I really don't care about a camera's particular color cast? I always grade my footage, always have. I started my career some 25 years ago in print as a graphic designer. I'm used to playing with color and I know color theory like the back of my hand. I just take care of it in post.
Isn't that what you all do as well?
THIS one I know the technical reason why we don't perceive vibrant colors as some cameras resolve. Atmosphere. Atmosphere diffuses how our eyes see protons, i.e. light, i.e color.
I'm ready for my gold star now.

I'm going to be honest, I actually can't explain it in technical terms. I just know it when I see it.
Take a face for example. With my NX1, every freaking clogged pore, wrinkle and hair stubble is very detailed and pronounced along with of course the eye area. (Which is excellent)
But when I see footage from an Alexa, RED, BMD, Canon (cinema) only the eyes are in crisp detail, everything else is somehow smoother or more "weighted". Skin looks thicker and there's generally a sense of more dimension in what the camera resolves. I also notice edges don't suffer from chromatic aberration, or edge fringing.
Now, I'm not saying this isn't possible with a $3,000 camera. It is. I already know that through my own experiences. And obviously certain lens' have different characteristics, I just personally see more footage in this bracket [$3,000] where it looks "too sharp" or what some here have been calling "thin", 'video-y" "digital", etc.
One of these days I'll be able to put it in better technical terms. Maybe someone here can help with that?

That's the topic where we have to be intelligent and where I find the value of evaluating forums as EOSHD. Simply put, I find that there are major and minor upgrades - task for manufacturer is to hide that minor upgrades are minor and present them as enough big... That's, for example, why I'm not interested in GH5s... I think in-reality-minor upgrade and minor (or even major!) downgrade IBIS wise. GH5 is major step in every field - not at least at finally getting Iso1600 usability that stay rich and cinematic-manipulative... GH5s looks as ISO3200 usable, but under the hood of agressive NR I found it is the same as GH5 with Resolve NR. Everything above is a gimic - type of shown in TheCameraStore lowlight scene above. To conclude this excursion trying to be exemplar about the camera I know - Panasonic don't squeeze everything from new senzor... just little bit of finer color manipulation... so I even expect there will be one more GH camera between now and widely expected 2020 Tokyo version. GH6 or similar with GH5s sensor and back of IBIS integration and even better color-codec usage.
Sorry if I pollute Fuji topic too much with such observations.

Cash. But I'm very cautious to sell everything I tried and didn't find best choice for me (and you have to be lucky to accomplished it if you are not in the big market country). Just now I kept only Voigtlanders 17.5 and 42.5 and Olympus 75mm. Reason for Voigts - I found that you have to have every single gout of light for Panasonic GH5 to keep it under 1600Iso. (That's also reason, besides construction, why I preferred V42.5 over Panalaica 42.5 which has T value about 1.6-1.8) Reason for Oly - also light capability and pure optical (not electronical) details discerning power that, in conjunction with ETC mode, made this lens as 3-4steps zoom (because of pure sharpness, it is quite easy to magnified in PP a little and stay quite safe).
