  1. First weekend out with my GH5 a month ago, I meant to test most of the features while shooting some Parkour / Freerunning. First feature I tried was 180fps slowmo and I got totally obsessed. Amazing feature. Loved the footage so much I put together a proper video - talking intro. slow mo edit and then some discussion of my experiences with it after. First real video I've produced on the GH5 and am loving every second of it! Every time I film something it inspires me to produce more.
YouTube 1080 compression is awful as usual but hopefully shows the feature well enough.

Shame about the awful 1080 YouTube compression but hopefully shows off the 180 awesome well enough.

Yes, I'm just piggybacking on other people's work but I can't find anyone doing anything beyond the GH3/FZ1000/LX100 era. Something definitely changed for G7 and GX80 so suspect its the same for the GH5.

Which it looks like it is.

Which means if I can find the solution for my G7 and GX80 then it should be the same.

    Original work is here

Ah nice. I think I remember that one when I was looking into getting a GH3 (though ended up going the GX7 / 8 route).

Be great if you can map things out. I may start looking into this once I can get a decent way of snooping the traffic that the app sends, set up.

We've conjectured that some of the significant AF differences we've seen in different GH5 videos is the result of differences in the lenses themselves. I've always gotten great AF results from my 14-140 and although my 15mm 1.7 is good, it's not as quick as the 14-140.

I think it's definitely a lot to do with the lens being used. The 14-140mm was always designed for video so has lovely AF. I have always found the 20mm to be truly awful for video AF. It hunts all over the place and is just not any good. As always, for photo it's fantastic but video, not so much - though a lovely lens video quality wise. It will be interesting to see how all of the AF lenses stack up on the GH5 as more people play with it.

  5. I watched this earlier and thought how good the quality was during most of it - especially the boarding scenes. Better than usual which is always great quality so I assumed he was using a new Sony or Canon (going back to his 80D maybe). Wasn't till I read the comments that I saw it was a GH5! Blown away. All this negative talk about it not being good for vlogging etc and the king of pro vlogging is now using it. The stabilisation looks really nice of course is most of the shots. Would like to know how he's using the focus. Obviously has to get it right the majority of the time so needs to get the shot quickly.

Some shots looked really wide so I was wondering if he was using the 7-14mm maybe.

  6. So with all the negativity over auto focus and inferences (by some) that the GH5 isn't a good choice for vlogging (etc) it's very cool to see that pretty much the king of professional vlogging - Casey Neistat - is now using a GH5. He's a long time Canon and Sony fan so I assumed he wouldn't ever change.

Was funny as I was watching today's vlog and kept thinking; "ooh the quality on this one is so nice and different - wonder which Sony or Canon he's using".. then find out in the comments it's a GH5! Stood out to me when he was on the skateboard. Assuming he's using the 7-14mm perhaps.

Must admit it's surprising as he uses auto focus a lot and some of his gear has amazing AF performance (far beyond the GH5) so it must be doing a lot right for how he is using it.

As the shooter of this video, I can assure you it was all handheld! It's using the Dual IS on the lenses I used.

Here's the other video I shot at Mont-Tremblant Resort. Again, all handheld using only the camera/lens stabilization and 16 years of filming snowboarding ;)

Both videos are beautiful. I've found some recent user videos somewhat underwhelming (compared to early produced ones) so it's awesome to see more like yours where they really get me excited about my pre-order ;)

The stabalisation is superlative. Love how detailed the image is and the perfect white balance - that snow looks spot on.
