It's so self sabotaging, because by doing this to your customers pretty much ensures that they're never going to buy your products again.

I love my GH5. I love the XLR adapter. It is such a compact set up. I use it for everything from filming pro wrestling to interviews. I don't have to build up a rig unless I want to... just throw a lens on, connect the XLR adapter and you can get excellent results. No fuss.

I WANT to stay. Give me a reason to! Can't lead the pack with specs now that full frame has caught up? Fine! Innovate in other ways! What's stopping you from putting a GH5 into a GX85 body? I'd buy two, along with a GH6! Nothing would delight me more than even smaller, lighter cameras! I'd carry one with me pretty much at all times!

And I don't believe this notion that you can't sell a kick ass GH6 for less than a S5 because the truth is there's a segment of the full frame market that won't consider a M43 camera no matter what the specs are. Go for broke, fuck it! Or just give people what they want: I mean just adding phase detect AF alone to decent bumps in specs would sell a bunch of new M43 cameras!

    I would buy a gx85 with gh5 internals

Ive been loyal to Panasonic but i think they want me to leave for sony so badly i be a fool to keep believing now

  3. so now the S5 has a compatible battery with the gh5 which is great because i have a GH5 but i wanted to get rid of the GH5 because i also have an S1 and thinking of getting an S5 and i still have two battery types what the hell Panasonic.

    we need one battery type!

I hope they give us S1 owners an firmware update because it doesn't look like a good option with an S5 here. Does it feel like the S5 make the S1 look like a rip off

The Panasonic lenses are expensive because they are extremely well built and feature-full. Even the 24-105 F4 is a beast with everything you mentioned and semi-macro ability.

Imagine if it had PDAF...it would have sold much, much better.

if it had pdaf i would would go all in. i have no native lenses

The f2.8 lens is a disappointment. Price and specs seem good otherwise.

whats wrong with F2.8 seems fine to me. now if this thing has 10bit it might catch my eye but i have no reason to keep getting a drone every year.

Right, ExTeleconv doesn't work in video. You can read it in the manual, page 122, the icon "video" is greyed : https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/dscoi/DC-S1/P_PP/DC-S1_DVQP1869ZB_full_web_eng.pdf

@Parker is right, you can set a crop mode, but the Ex. tele Conv, as in the GH5/G9 and Sony cameras doesn't work in video. It is really a big downside for me, as it was a strong selling point when I bought it, and I think I read the manual too quickly ? I wanted to use small and lightweight tele lenses, like the Canon 200 f2.8 or Samyang 135f2 (or zooms like the Sigma 100-400) and, by combining crop mode + ext tele conv, almost reach 400mm, with the brilliant IBIS....

I hope for a future firmware update to change that.

OMG please panasonic give us this. I thought for sure the S1 would have this

Ugh, I'm so torn right now - I could sell the XT3 and buy a used GH5 with the ULTRA Metabones speedbooster. I'm very happy with Fuji's pictures, but video? Handheld is more of my style and I absolutely can't do it, since it has no IBIS. Is it that much of a difference for photography between these two cameras?

once you use ibis as good as gh5 its hard to want to shoot with something without it. Thats why i got the S1 its like a gh5s but FF and ibis

Im undecided whether to get the sigma 18-35 or the tamron 28-75 2.8 for my new a7iii. Will be using this lens for short films mostly. The 28-75 kit lens is actually pretty good, but would not mind a constant aperature and more light.

Pros for the sigma are lower f stop and i could use it on my gx85 and sl2 cams. Pro for the tamron i guess is full frame video if thats much of an advantage.

Also, anyone try the sigma 17-50 2.8 with an A series camera?

    Any input appreciated, thanks!

i have both lenses the sigma is bigger and heavier than the tamron its hard to handle on the gx85. The tamron feels good on the a7iii not to heavy both are really sharp autofocus is really fast

Interesting that on the website thy show the camera surrounded by many lenses. But almost all of the lenses are Olympus, with only a couple Panasonic, Veydras and the odd SLR Magic and Voit thrown in for good measure. I wonder if this is an indication that they feel Panasonic users would largely not be interested in this camera? Interestingly, at NAB almost all of the cameras that were not mounted with giant cine zoom were fitted with Panasonic lenses.

its funny how panasonic is the more video orientated camera but olympus lenses are better for video with the manual clutch and look better too

This is a portrait I took with the Voigtlander 17.5mm and GH4 a couple of years ago. With all these cool M43 cameras out/on the horizon I wish I'd kept the Voigty set now. . . and added the 10.5.

you think i should add the voigtlander 42.5 to my kit? ive been eyeing the 45 pro oly but i already have the 17.5 that picture makes me think twice about going oly

Hum, SLR Magic pulling a Veydra.

Interesting they're restricting it to E-mount, though (although it does make the most sense if they're going for compact fullframe mirrorless). Yet, still... MFT you can adapt to E-mount, funny enough you'd expect the other way around was possible, but isn't. Means they're missing out on the whole GH/BMPCC market. Does make you think a combo line-up thereof and an A7III is about all the kit you'd need.

id wish they would do switchable mounts so i can use on a mft camera too
