Ken Ross reacted to inv3ctiv3 in EOSHD testing finds Canon EOS R5 overheating to be fake
That's pretty much how we were going but not doing that short of clips probably 30 second-1.5 minutes with a few different takes, like I said I think people are blinded by the specs and want to go film long form videos with it and it's a stills camera that does video. I've been beyond stoked on mine but there will always be people who are upset, this camera fits in with my 5D4's and my C200's perfectly but has and will likely forever replace the 5D4's. And like I said there are people trying to make it over heat and when you try to do that guess what, it'll do it but I see very few reviews of people taking it outside and just shooting like they normally would, I take all these sites with a grain of salt.
Are you ok? Why are you so quick to just slam other peoples experiences or opinions?

if andrew is right, the big question that remains is why did they do it??? and why did they do it in such an excessive way?
if the camera had a hardware flaw and they would do a lot of pr to downplay it i would totally understand that.
but crippling a camera by firmware to a point where it becomes unusable does not make any sense.
limiting it to protect cinema eos sales?, ok, limiting it to protect sales of the next model?, ok, but totally ruining it?
development of this thing must have cost tons of money, and even if they wanted to protect cinema eos sales, there is still a bit of math do be done to understand whether this is reasonable by any means.
cinema eos cams are pretty much a niche product and i don`t see why they would protect them at such a high cost?
andrews findings are shocking, and if true, i`d really like to know the reason they did it?
there are a lot of statements on here about how much of a scandal this is and how bad canon is behaving, and given the fact that canon is not a chinese two man brand run by lunatics makes me even more eager to get to know the "mechanics" behind this...

Sony will NOT give us anything like the X-T3. They will protect their FS lineup. And colors... colors... colors. They will not be the equal of the Fuji or Canon. Although, by all means Sony... prove me wrong and I will gladly add another α camera to my collection. Not holding my breath though.
Perhaps they can add some filters to match the film emulations that Fuji has? But maybe take it one step further... Instant Blockbuster, Micheal Bay Mode, Spielberg setting?

I always found it fascinating how the foreground can stay in focus, yet if you watch, you can see some pulsing in the background. You'd think that would have some impact on the foreground too. I'm actually also amazed at how many people seem to focus more on the background than the subject.   I did an early test of the GH5 AF in a shopping mall, and it stayed in focus on the subject, but the background did, on occasion, show that pulsing. I got a comments from a few posters that seemed to only see the pulsing and never the fact that the subject remained in focus. I can understand that a pulsing background can be distracting, but still... Oh well.
Of course using AF lock, where possible, totally alleviates that issue.

I'm using the 64 GB Lexar UHS-II card with a stated speed of 150MB/s. In my GH5, the SanDisk Extreme, UHS-I, SDXC Class 10 card, with a stated speed of 90MB/s, is ready for the next 4K clip much quicker than my Lexar. So much for stated speeds. So it's not a question (at least in my case) of 'reliability', but shooting speed.

I am currently using the Lexar Pro 1000x, UHS-II Class 10 cards. Although I have no problems with them and have had no issues recording 4K, they are slow to write. So if you need to do some fast run N gun, upon ending your last clip, you may not be able to record your next clip for several seconds. That's the biggest difference I've found relative to my SanDisk. But I'll say this, it's enough of a difference that next time I'd get the SanDisk.

He can do whatever he wants. What about the readers out (t)here? What about disinformation or let's use some harder terminology: FUD *poop* You know people read. You know sales go down. You know R&D investment follows the curve. Hybrid gear follows up. And price for expensive gear and ENG cameras I personally find a minus for creative filmmaking art follow the rule. Economies of scale are a bitch, you know, we know : ) You've already accused me to be much defensive on GH5. Listen, I am not paid by Panasonic but I believe they could wire me indeed... LOL
My friendly beef with wolf33d I don't know the name but his alias is old. It includes any piece of new gear he immediatly bashes through his posting because doesn't match HIS needs or liking without the necessary learning about -- most part of time, still when they are literally specs on paper (let alone distinct lens AF performance, different settings combination or shooting setups): GH5, Mavic... not only Panasonic stuff; not fanboy here, I'm sorry, I am brand agnostic since ever : ) and you can find me to defend Sony (my 1st love), Canon (my 1st DSLR and 1st reason why I moved away from REDs to here) or any other major or small workshop *a bit harsh to use the word for some vaporware at times* the usual under the perspective from someone used to read you two.
BTW, here's one now directly addressed to you, Glenn: you're so picky on GH5 flaws. What about your love about that JVC toy? I posted that test full of issues. You still praise the thing or added no word on that *sigh* go figure if those were GH5 issues instead... LOL You remind me what or who? Myself when I try to look for some alternative to mainstream. But, hybrid devices like 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording + 4K/60p + IBIS + complex AF (it doesn't matter how rough is) are far to be other than fragile and innovative market experiment yet. Nevermind, it should be your creative mind of a screenwriter to talk. Fair enough. Our posts say too much about us, though. That's for sure! ;-)

I'll tell you this, if I was traveling to a place as beautiful as that, I'd be sure to capture footage in the highest resolution & bitrate possible and, if I was determined to slow motion, I'd consider doing it in post to avoid the inevitable deterioration in resolution by doing in-camera slo mo. The other alternative is to do two takes, one in the slo mo and the other in the highest resolution possible.

Oh no no! There's a setting that allows you to simply press the button in and you can then release it and still hold focus.
Edit: The operation you MUST engage is "AF/AE Lock Hold". Once you set this to 'on', you press the button to lock focus, release it, and it holds your focus. To me this is absolutely, 100% essential, to make this a terrific way to avoid so many of the AF issues.

Sure Ken. Meant focus hunting there. The camera doesn't guess by herself. So, as Brownstone also concurs the rule we've been addressed on these boards and even Yuryev and the Luminary Linaschke (PhotoJoseph) have ignored, tap-to-focus is your closer friend to follow.

Exactly Ken!...and what I'm really liking about Panasonic's approach, is how they are treating the GH5 more as one of their pro range cameras...the camera came full of features, but even more importantly, full of yet untapped potential as more advanced FW is being developed for it....as is ongoing with the Varicam LT and actually also years ago in the private community on the GH2...and as Panasonic's releases are far less frequent (a philosophy I find far more sustainable than the "I need a new IPhone every 4 months" insanity) that we are now seeing. This model of constantly upgrading the Flagship camera, while at the same time trickling some of the pro features in the GH cams down to the less expensive later cameras that follows, gets my loyalty to Panasonic.

AFS (not AFF) must be selected both within the camera setting in the menu and on the external AF switch. If the menu setting is set to AFF or if the external AF switch is set at AFC, the manual focus override won't work.

Agreed...but this is of course huge for them as a business and it's almost impossibly hard to satisfy everyone....if not AF it would be the "videoy" look (will Webster adopt this word into it's dictionary) or lack of DR or poor low light ability...as a business one has to pick your battles...personally I strongly doubt that they can beat Canon's AF system with a FW update, but again personally I prefer what they put in the camera as is...but then...many others disagree...well, we will know soon enough how well the FW update does.
our friend on 3 men and an elephant just did a quick review of AF on his GH5 and seemed to find it quite acceptable for his use.

Hmm, the 5D3 is more detailed than the GH5? I'm having trouble with that, particularly when comparing the 4K output of the GH5 to the HD output (no 4K on the 5D3). Doing that comparison, the GH5 blows the Canon away in detail. I'm not saying the Canon isn't a great camera, but for anyone shooting video, I can't see spending the money on a camera that can't do 4K. Not in today's world and especially considering how good HD looks when it's downscaled from 4K. Then there's IBIS.
The footage out of the GH5 looks so much better to me. That's MO.
