I still have my good old NX1 and NX500.
Indeed, even at ISO 200, with bad light, details fall apart, very mushy.
Back in 2014/2015 I was really disappointed by this mushy rendering in low light compared to my GH4, I was one of the first to point out  :
This exactly what the S5II is doing with most picture profiles (internal), of course the S5II has much better low light performance so it's much less worse, but when I crop inside the low light videos of both my S1 and S5II, I can see more or less the same difference, the S1 keeps much better details than my S5II (V-Log is really better but details are still not as good as on the S1, mostly because of weird edge sharpening).

About the rolling shutter, it is really bad in 4K on the NX1, one the worst I've seen, but the image was and is still gorgeous with the right light, especially with the 16-50mm and 50-150mm NX S. Iirc, the RS is close to 30ms.

I also have the NX500 somewhere in my house, but I never really liked the video quality compared to the NX1. In good light the NX1 is full of details, the NX500 much less, probably because of the big crop. Also the NX500 has more difficulty to nail the focus in 4K, and it has no electronic stabilization, which is very handy with the little 30mm and 45mm on the NX1.
I used the hacked firmware of the NX500 allowing the 2,5K mode, the rolling shutter was excellent, below 10ms for sure, but the image quality was not good, there was sometimes weird lines and aliasing.

Something that does work is the NX-L so it is full frame now.

    Hey Guys,

long time Bolex 8/19 shooter here.. I need some help. I took my 8 / 19 in to have the rear element cleaned (had some haze forming) and when I got it back it wouldn't focus to infinity anymore. Needless to say I regret this decision. The tech that cleaned it is no help getting it back to proper function.  It focus out about 10 feet or so,   I  reached out to Bernie at super16 (saw his info on one of the other posts) but very sadly he has  passed away semi recently.  Does anyone have a technician they have used for to maintain or repair their adapter here in the USA? any help or expertise would be greatly appreciated. than you in advance.

I have the X-T4 for photographing and I bought recently a Z-Cam E2S6 for anamorphic filming. Fuji has to improve X-H2 for use anamorphic lenses. Open gate sensor and better IBIS.

@keessie65 there I was contemplating selling my beloved Bolex 16/32/1.5x last night, chanced upon this thread, started having another play with my GX8 and 20/1.7 and now resolute I’m going to use it more and about to pull the trigger on the single focus add on 😃
I love how compact this thing is on the GX8 with pancake.

Also figured out how to get this to work in stills mode by using the Penny EXTC mode in Medium at 8MP, which gives an extra 1.3x crop on the already 2x crop.
Took a quick snap before. Works on my Voigtlander 25/0.95 too 😍

Love this anamorphic. Think they may need to bury me with it.
Cheers for the inspiration pal 🙂

keessie65 reacted to Sebastien Farges in Iscorama Pre-36 first hands on with differents taking lenses (Sony A7RII)
I'm a lucky owner of an Iscorama Pre-36 since May 2020. I had a few opportunity to film some clips this summer, here they are.
After having the experience with Bolex Moller 16/32, babies Hypergonar and Isco, SLR Magics, I think this Iscorama Pre 36 is a total gem. It's small and light, sharp and single focus. It's only default is its 2 meters minimum distance focusing. I'm so in love with it 🙂
You will see different taking lenses (mentioned during the movie) here such as :
    Helios 44-2 58mm f2
    Super-Takumar 55mm f1.8
    Pentax-M 40mm f2.8
    Pentax-DA 70mm f2.4
    Pentax-M 135mm f3.5
Everything was most of the time shot wide open.
I'm surprised how the Iscorama performed well with tele lens such as the 135mm from Pentax.
The Pentax-DA, which is an APS-C lens, is working on FF, even with the Iscorama. It's maybe one of the smallest and lightest 70mm ever made (131 grams for 26mm long).
The pancake Pentax-M 40mm f2.8 gave slight vignetting.
The Super-Takumar 55mm f1.8 is working very well.
And of course the Helios 44-2 58mm f2 is pairing very well with the Iscorama, for who who like vintage and organic look. It's design is also great, it's deep front is perfect for the Iscorama protubing back (with the add of one 49mm spacer made from a filter).
Shot on Sony A7RII 4K 24p, full frame mode.
    Diopters : Tamron 0.5x and Pentax 6X7 close-up achromatic (1X ?)
Fotodiox Pro Vizelex variable ND Throttle EF mount
Musics : Andrea Laszlo De Simone "Immensita" and "Mistero"
Thanks to Hayley, Olive & Delphine, Izy & Elliot, Liliane, Florent and their family, Lucas Gautier and the Havana Moons, Tchi-Kung, the seller of the Iscorama and the people of bordeaux.

I have just updated my movie  "Covid-19 in anamorphic Before and Now" with the end of the lockdown. I'm lucky in a cinematography way because La rue Sainte-Catherine in Bordeaux is a street where wearing a mask is obligatory, so it's very filmic !

AND I am since two weeks an happy owner of an Iscorama Pre-36. All the shots with crowd + mask are shot with it. You will NOTICE too few shots done with a TILT medium lens (Volna-3 80mm 2.8) used as a prime with the Iscorama.
    Filmed in anamorphics
    "baby iscorama" Iscomorphot 8/1.5x isco-gottingen
    iscorama pre-36 1.5x
    Aivascope pro 1.5x
"baby" hypergonar 1.75x + slr magic rangefinder
    bolex moller anamorphot 16/32 1.5x
    before : from 2012 to 2020
    now : june the 5th, 2020
    during the time of covid-19
La rue Sainte-Catherine is the longuest pedestrian street in europe, 1km250.
It's located in Bordeaux, south west of France.
Each day thousands of bordelais and tourists from all over the world walk in this street.
Since the 17th march 2020, lockdown has been in place in france.
This street has never been so empty.
This is a run and gun, street video style, a hommage to the bordelais.
It's a mix of archives, filmed in anamorphic, from 2012 to nowadays, this covid-19 time.
One day all the crowds will come back to la rue Sainte-Catherine, Bordeaux, France.
Let's enjoy life and people through these contemplative moments.

Yeah, I could tell pretty quickly this camera's IBIS wasn't performing as good as my GH5, which again probably gets outperformed slightly by the Olympus. It's a shame, really had me considering returning my XT4 but compared to the GH5, the slightly neater form factor and usable autofocus is just something game-changing for me in terms of casually bringing the camera with me way more places. I used to NEVER want to bring my GH5 anywhere for some reason.
I've since come to realise how great the image quality is too, beating my old GH5 easily at anything higher than 1600 ISO and seeming to have (in part due to ISO performance I guess) cleaner slowmotion 1080 etc all the way up to 200fps (240fps just pushes it a bit too far and most clips don't look good enough, but this is how it goes with cameras' absolute max VFR FPS, I know). I appreciate other little XT4 victories that were limitations on GH5, such as way beefier codecs when you consider you get HEVC h.265 10-bit even in the high frame rate 1080 modes. I used to hate knowing that mixing the 10bit with 8bit(VFR) on my GH5 maybe meant not being able to grade them quite as hard with the 8-bit mixed in. In 4K (up to 30p) the HEVC 400MBPS codec is fantastic to have, and 200MBPS h265 up to 60p is always gonna be enough for me too, given the extra % visible image info saved in h.265 for a given bitrate vs h.264 (40% or something apparently?) Oh, and HLG availabe in all the recording modes. I never got my hands on v-Log with the GH5 and was always bummed I suddenly couldn't use HLG in the high framerate slow mo modes.

I was really, really thinking of downgrading to an XH1 or XT3 but I'm pretty hsppy and trying to just let it go, hope for a firmware improvement.
If an XH2 comes along with something like 4K in higher framerate and better IBIS, I just might be trying to jump ship then.

Again I've found that the XT4 IBIS actually plays a bit nicer - when using a manual lens setup that lets you enter the focal length setting yourself - if you enter a shorter focal length than the real one. There's still plenty of stabilisation on offer to filter out real hand shakiness, but the camera thinking it's at a shorter focal length (say x0.7) seems to mean the grabby 'catch-up' jitters of the sensor are mitigated a lot. It just works better for me. I'm still afraid to try anything longer than about 35mm on this camera handheld for video though. The IBIS just gets defeated and exasperated by anything Tele.

With the Fuji electronic lens protocol being opened up to third parties more lately I'm hopeful about the future in terms of competitive lenses and adaptors too (definitely going to get the Viltrox speedbooster at some point, it was a godsend on my GH5. Fringer sounds great too, I'm torn, I'm not fully all-in on needing usable AF or anything so may go Viltrrox 'booster route)

Another cool thing I noticed: with the XT4 I seemed to able to record 400mpbs clips for several minutes at a time to a Sandisk card that's only really around <V30. No idea why this is. My GH5 would always see the same SanDisk card lose the recording in under a minute.

Oh, and stills! I'm not really a stills guy at all yet but obviously this is the camera for a hybrid shooter, I like what I see from it so far and look forward to snapping more and more with it. Again, nothing since my Panasonic GX8 all the way through models up to GH5 really gave me that feeling (well, except for when I owned an XH1 briefly, which seemed very good), the stills just always felt like a struggle, mediocre results.
  25. Thanks
