Sorry to hear about your medical issues and great to hear you are on the road to recovery.
I echo your thoughts about this place.
My last few weeks have been spent at my Mother’s bedside as she drifted away to her passing.
In times like that of huge change and trauma we look for constants to keep us connected to “normal” life.
In that respect, checking into here every now and again to find everyone having the same circular arguments was oddly comforting.
And I honestly mean that with love.

    I'd give a nod to the Z8/Z9.
It ticks the boxes you need, the ones you might use the option of if you had them and even the ones that you are absolutely uninterested in that, you never know, you might develop a taste for.
Loads of resolution and frame rate options, internal RAW and ProRes, very respectable rolling shutter and, most importantly, the most flexible lens mount around.
I appreciate you don't have any interest in AF but if you develop one (either out of choice or necessity such as going further with longer lens wildlife imagery) then it is unique in offering near native adapted AF performance of F,EF and E mount lenses and via the TechArt adapter it will even do AF on MF lenses with any mount deeper than Leica M.
So if you change direction from your current needs then the camera can change with you.
With regard to your current needs, EF and PL cine lenses are obviously able to be used with the added bonus that, with it being a very shallow mount, the Meike adapters incorporate variable ND filters.

It also has the MC-N10 grip which offers full control including of the virtual zoom function which is very effective in turning primes into par focal zooms or just extending the reach of actual zoom lenses.

Although timecode sync is not on your lists of must haves, the Z8/Z9 have internal support for the UltraSync Blue wireless timecode system that is used in your wife's Zoom F6 so, again, the option is there if you do require easy sync at some point in the future.
Is it a true "cinema" camera when its actually a hybrid ?
Well, its only a hybrid if you actually decide to take stills with it so its each to his own use case really.
Naturally, if you do decide to shoot the odd still with it then it rinses every cinema camera out there at that particular task 😀
As a cinema camera, its an 8K internal RAW and ProRes shooting one with PL mount and in built variable ND filter with wireless TC sync, EVF and tilting screen for under $3700 which is pretty compelling.
It is also a lot more discrete which I suspect might be an advantage if you are shooting urban cityscapes etc.
Anyway, its another option to consider amongst the 37432 different ones offered up in this thread.
For my part, the only thing I regret more than not buying a Z8 when I had the chance in June is not buying one in October when I had another chance.
I will definitely rectify that the next time one comes up !
Good luck with your choice, although I think the fact that there are so many viable options offered up in this thread illustrates that there are very few - if any - wrong choices these days in terms of getting great image quality.
And then turn the internet off.

Funnily enough, I was mocked on here not so long ago for suggesting any of that trivial shit was required so I was keeping it simple.
Not to mention being in keeping with the other thread on here about making a "real" movie with a cheap camera.

I cannot say much but give you two dear forum friends a hug in spirit and from my heart. This forum has been a comforting place for me as well. A puny little camera, nobody took serious back then for video, but you image lovers did, was my rock to hold onto in the roughest of my times, a black small GX85, my dearest trusty video mate. I filmed butterflies with it and my parents garden. I will never make fun of anyone filming flowers, except when they do it with a Leica.:)

At the 2010 Academy Awards, The Social Network was nominated for eight Oscars and won three of them.
It was shot on the at the time newly released MX version of the RED ONE, a camera that you can now readily pickup in a full kit including EVF, batteries and media for around £2K.
There are a boatload of different options available now so, of course, I'm not suggesting you rush out and buy one but, nonetheless, this is an interesting time capsule of how it was no hindrance to making a very successful film then and likely wouldn't be now either if you did fancy buying one.
Just make sure you budget for a decent tripod.

    My condolences about your mother.
We're here for you - especially if it involves fighting over irrelevant technical details!
I've said it previously, but I actually don't have a huge list of wants for an updated GX-line camera, and the GX85 is now my daily driver as-it-were.
I've heard people ask for a range of improvements but they all seem quite modest actually.  Things like PDAF, 10-bit, LOG, full-sensor readout, etc.  These may well only require a sensor upgrade and a processor upgrade, perhaps to existing chipsets that aren't even the latest generation, which may not actually require that much additional power / cooling / space.
At the moment the GX85 already has:
IBIS / Dual-IS Tilt screen / touch screen EVF half-decent codec etc etc Plus, it's right at the limit of actually being too small from an ergonomic perspective.  The grip design on it is really quite effective and I enjoy using it, but I probably wouldn't want it to be any smaller.  If it had a slightly larger grip then that would actually be an advantage ergonomically, wouldn't make the camera much bigger in practice because it would still be smaller than most lenses, and would allow for a larger battery size.
With proper colour management it is actually a very malleable image too, I did an expose test with it some time ago, doing exposures under and over and bringing them back to normal in post, and while the DR wasn't great, the image was very workable.
The endless pursuit of megapixels has proven that a feature can be designed and then marketed and people will go nuts over it, despite the fact that it's not of any practical use to most consumers and it also requires upgrading of all associated equipment in turn.
I think this shows that even if you did make a perfect camera for the people who shoot, the people who like progress for its own sake will always think that the perfect camera is the next one.
    Please no!!!!!

    So...

I was diagnosed with kidney cancer on September 5. I had my right kidney removed on October 13 and am now cancer free (and if my scans show nothing in April I'll be considered cured!). During that entire period though, I didn't do any jobs and just focused on recovering, but had decided to dip my toe back into the water and had a small job planned for a friend this week.

As I was just going through my equipment in preparation of getting back into the swing of things my pup Teri knocked over my main S5 and IT BROKE. Now, it doesn't impact my job because I have two extras of the same cameras, but obviously it left me needing to get a new camera. Sooo...
I bought the Lumix S5IIX instead of getting another used S5. I swore I'd never buy a camera brand new again, but the used price isn't that much less, and I was able to get a decent deal on it with a lens. With all I've been through (having my kidney removed was, without a doubt, the most painful thing I've ever experienced, just FYI) I figured I'd treat myself.
This is a long way to ask a couple questions while I wait for it to arrive tomorrow:
    1. how easy is it to match the original S5 straight out of camera or with a little tweaking using the standard or natural color profile? I will use log, but for certain jobs it's just easier to skip that part.
    2. why is there no third party battery grip? has anyone heard why?
    3. I have a couple third party batteries. Wasabi and Newmowa brands. Has anyone encouraged any problems with third party batteries? I have like six OEM batteries but I've heard the S5II and S5IIX's battery life isn't as good as the S5.
    4. what are the best settings? I've seen tons of YouTubers but I'd prefer to hear it from people that do more than film themselves in their spare bedroom/garage and actually are out there getting the most out of their camera.
    5. This one is most important: I just want you all to know I love you all. My ordeal has given me a greater appreciation for life, the interactions I have with other human beings, and just everything, really. Thank you @Andrew Reid and everyone else that makes this place special.

The original one did but the new versioner which you would use with the 12K uses the USB-C port only so no loss of connections.

I linked the pic of the original in error.

It has a USB port for direct recording to SSD or you can go the whole hog and get the URSA Mini Recorder which sits between the camera and the battery to enable you to define your own capacity using 2.5” SSD drives.

It’s not particularly cheap at around $400 but more cost effective than c-fast pretty quickly and a lot more robust than having an external drive hanging off the USB-C port.
