Arikhan got a reaction from Edwin Cheng in Drone for a A6500 / A7R ii / A7S ii
I would like to buy and use a drone for a Sony A6500 / A7R ii / A7S ii. So the drone should have a total payload of about 1,5kg (camera + lens). It should have FPV and - if possible - remote control for the mounted camera. 3-axis gimbal is also required. Budget is max. 5.000 Euro (for ready to fly drone only).
Are here people experienced with this? Any recommendation for companies / experienced people for such a built?
    Thank you!

I was looking in to the same thing. I have a P4p that is the first drone with a usable camera for photography and I’m looking for a even better solution.
I agree with Oli and the I2 is IMO the best compromise, still a manageable size, ready to fly and you can control everything from the App including zoom and focus. Yes, the quality is for sure less than an A7 series but is much more practical. You are ready to fly in less than 2 minutes.
The Matrice 600Pro is very big and heavy. It is also very dangerous, I’m not sure that moving from a Phantom to this class of drone is a smart thing to do but you know your skill better than me so is up to you.
With the M600Pro you cannot control the camera (A7x) other that the shutter, you cannot even start and stop the video from within the drone app. You could use the wifi+app of the camera to have some control at closer distance but it is still a pita. You probably would need a follow focus system that is also expensive and cumbersome. If you have not used a gimbal like the Ronin MX you will also need to balance the camera/lens combination every time that is time consuming especially at the beginning. (I have a Ronin M)
The M600Pro is a kit that you need to assemble yourself so is not really ready to fly.
    With 5’000 EUR you don’t even start… the M600Pro is 5’700 + 1’800 the gimbal + 2700 (3 x 900 Battery set for 20-25 min flight) + some accessory you are well above 10’000 Euro…
I suggest that you research a bit on the DJI forums around the M600 to see what kind of complexity it has.
At the end is a choice between easy to use, transport and quick setup vs. complex and time consuming setup, compromised usability for better quality.
My dream would be the X5s (I2 camera) on a Phantom size drone….
Why not rent a GH5 with a couple of lens and test the photo quality it will be almost the same as the X5s on the Inspire 2?

Very beautiful! I really like this color science OOC: balanced, pleasant colors without any work in post and (in my eyes) a very beautiful skin texture.
Now I shot a couple of times with a X-T2 (mainly stills photography) and it was a pleasure to work with: very good ergonomics and feeling and it gives the operator - because of phantastic buttons placement - a very familiar feeling. Miles away from the Sony plastic garbage frustration when holding it in your hands and shooting...
And the SOOC imaging/colors have a kind of unique mojo...

There is a lot of envy and hate today out there. Most pixel whores and armchair experts simply don't honor others people WORK. Filming / photographing is not only fun, it's some work too. And most people working quite hard (as many SERIOUS reviewers/filmers/photographers do) get rewarded: personal satisfaction, public appreciation, financial compensation, etc. Bored pixel peepers don't like others people success, because - in fact - they hate themselves for just hanging around and/or acting completely useless....

About 4 weeks ago I talked a guy owning a camera store and a small photo studio. He told me, he doesn't close his store <ONLY because his family owns the building and he doesn't want to rent the store to other people. But in fact, he should close, because it doesn't pay at all. He is very friendly and knowledgeable, but most nowadays customers don't honor this. (A small town with about 25.000 residents 30km far from Frankfurt/Germany)
Most people try to abuse his store as a free camera test location: They come in, put an own card in a camera, shoot a little bit around and go home...They never return to buy, probably they buy online for much cheaper...To stop this mess, he started to charge 50 Euros for testing and consulting (for about 30-45 minutes) - when people buy the tested gear/camera in his store, he refunds this fee...After starting this, there are about TWO people per week who want to test and get some advice, he said...He is glad having stopped the "test-mania", cheapo-parasites stealing his time at his costs...

My generation (16-20 years old) has ZERO interest in using proper video/photo cameras. ZERO...All people use extensively their smartphones, they want it "as simple as possible" and aim to post as fast as possible the results on social media. Facebook is for many young people BS, Instagram and SnapChat are nowadays king...An own website/blog? Muahaha....It has to be quick and dirty...NO EFFORTS (saving for buy, handling, shooting, editing, education, etc.), please...
"Winning back smartphone users"? This would be really hard (and costly) to do, as young users are generally lazy and don't want to spend any time with fiddling and properly operating a camera. The formula simply is: "As simple and automated as possible to shoot and share".
And never forget the costs: Most of my colleagues spend 30-50 EUR / month for "all net flat" mobile calling/internet fees, including a smartphone usage for 2 years....So no cash needed to buy a smartphone. This business model for "selling" smartphones is impossible to do for a camera manufacturer.
In my school there are about 1.500 scholars. I know very many people, but only FOUR scholars owning/operating a DSLR/MILC camera.
    Camera stores?
It's hard for them (not for the big electronic discounters, but for smaller, specialized camera stores)...Generally diminished camera sales, very small margins and customers expecting top advice, but then going home and ordering online for cheapest price...For 95% of stores it's even impossible to get in the costs for rental...

Unfortunately camera store are killed by the internet. Last time a brought something from a camera store was in 2004.... The price pressure is too big for them to survive and we consumer we don't want to pay more than what we find online....
Canon, Nikon, Sony they can do whatever they want but they will never win back smartphone users and smartphones are getting better and better to the point that an average consumer does not care at all about other cameras. This is why the race is the Pro and Semi Pro/Serious hobbits.
On the other hand I see more and more pro using very expensive equipment like REDs etc filming for Instagram and co for big companies to separate their post from the masses of phone imagery...

C'mon BTM_Pix, "banding" is some kind of hater speak...In my eyes, this is a new kind of artistic effect invented by Sony - ES-SST (Electronic Shutter - Sony Striping Technology)...As it works only sporadically at the moment (and only when using ES) on the A9, Sony is working on a firmware upgrade to insure the functionality of this revolutionary striping effect in almost every lighting situation possible...So please consider, that's not a bug ("phenomenon" in manufaturer speak), but a feature...
Rumors say, they work on an app for their Sony MemoryApp Collection too, as many other users of A7X and A6X00 cameras want to get this famous "striping effect" too...This SST-App will cost 10 USD, but hey, it's cheap for such an useful feature...

Arikhan got a reaction from jonpais in Canon 6D Mark II lacks 4K video - What were they thinking?!
    @Andrew Reid
I don't defend them. I just try to be fair. I can NOT abnegate years and decades of shooting Canon, when particurarly beeing very happy with ergonomics, built quality and an excellent after sales and repair service. But then I started beeing very unhappy with inconsistency and accuracy of their AF...And Canon startet kidding me, telling me, I don't see good, respectively my requirements would not be realistic...
But my demands were realistic - their cameras were not...The D750 showed me first how AF consistency and accuracy works, even I was not perfectly familiar with all AF possibilities at that time. No more misfocused bullshit, no more Canon excuses for problems they knew about...But OK, now it's over...To be honest, I have to admit, when selling the lenses (as eg 400mm 2.8 and some more spectacular lenses of our collection) we got by far more money for them, as we paid years ago when buying new...So, most Canon lenses we owned were not expenses, but a substancial investment over time - as it turned out when selling...To remain fair to the morons...
Nope...For me, it's only 2.000 worth. Not one cent more. So, in reality vastly overprized. But, as I said, I consider the 1DX II to be very expensive - but not overprized. I don't like feeding fat cats even more, especially when they try to kid me....
And then, there is something more...I encountered many Canon shooters with quite the same, poor attitude towards their own work and customers...These are mostly photographic ignorants on one side and know-it-alls on the other side...No need for then to learn something new, never thinking about evolving and further development...A vast majority believes, "no need for wireless HSS", most of them shoot stopped down to F5.6-8, no risks, nothing...No need for a great DR....Post WW 2, like their manufacturer...And nearly all of them complaining about customers attitide and low rates they get - but none of them reflecting on the own attitude, lack of modern offerings and poor delivery....No need for learning post production...No need for using a second card in the 5d m3 ("I never had a card failure")...Bla, bla, bla...People treating their customers as enemies are provincial, narrow-minded morons filled with bitterness. And very soon - bankrupt...
To be honest: Sometimes I believe, Canon customers should do a rebellion against a retro-minded manufacturer. BUT, for a rebellion, people should have noticed, how Canon is kidding them. But they don't notice anything...Canonistas love pains - because they don't even notice them...

    @jonpais
Full ACK...I've just done some mentions on the photographic capabilities of the 6D / 6D ii - because I gave up to expect even a minimum of video performance from a Canon APSC or FF DSLR under 2.000 EURO. Personally I stopped to require all i need for photography AND filming from one single camera/manufacturer. For photos it's Nikon at the moment.
My needs: for video there is Panasonic HC-X1 I own and - after taking a in deep look at the new C200 - probably the C200 as soon as it will be available.
Portable solutions I own: D750 & D810 (nice 1080p, but I don't use both very often for filming), D500 (great video imaging but a quite ugly crop in 4K)...And then the NX1 and my mom's A6500 for daily, portable shooting and when needing reliable video AF. And furthermore, the FZ1000 for quick&dirty B/C-Roll footage
As you see, more than enough cameras for nearly all needs...So I don't expect NOTHING from the Canon ultras...Their attitude simply disgusts me.
Nevertheless Canon has enough merits within the photographing and filming community with some very nice devices during the past. And it seems, the upcoming C200 will perfectly fit my filmic needs, though I will have to take a deep look at it before buying. BUT I would never spend 3.700 EUR for an 5d m4 or even 2.000 Eur for a 6D ii. They decided to cripple & overprize  their DSLR line, OK...I'll spend my money otherwise. Nikon didn't refuse explecetely to take my money...
I don't care about brands, I care only about performance, ergonomics, reliability and fun when shooting...Never forget fun and personal satisfaction!

It's not all about 4K @Andrew Reid. The sad aspect is, Canon doesn't even want buyers to get an acceptable/clean 1080p in 2017. Instead of this, the mushy 720p again and again.
The 5d m4 is the most overrated AND overprized Canon - even the 1DX II might be expensive, but it''s not overprized. The 6D is - from photographic point of view - a real bargain, even nowadays. I think, this will be similar to the 6D II, it will turn out as a great photographic offer at FF level.
I (my whole family) leaved Canon last year, selling dozens of lenses and cameras, keeping only 12 Canon lenses. I've separated photography from film/video, now heavily buying in the Nikon ecosystem for photography. Never looked back, Canon became for me completely irrelevant at the moment (for stills). In film/video cameras, I will consider their offers for sure (C200).
I know, Canon is (for volume) the #1 camera manufacturer in the world and it will consistently rank quite well, even if people like me jump on the Nikon ship. My gear is probably next to nothing in Canons arrogant eyes, but at the end of the day, it will be about 30.000 till end of this year. Plus the fact, we always serviced our gear very regurarly and invested a nice amount of money at this level. Now it's NPS making the business.
I loved their ergonomics, built quality, reliability and service. Nearly perfect - not the Sony E-Mount plastic garbage (excepting A9). BUT...dealing with a ultraconservative brigade with a post WW 2 attitude, is not funny or inspiring. And I didn't even ask for 4K, but only for a contemporary, clean 1080p...It's a shame, but hey, that's life...

Hmm...From own experience, I doubt it. Most of the "pros" (doing a "normal" photography business) who use Canon are usually "sheep" who can not ascertain what's right. Similar to their "Canon God", they don't care about contemporary customer demands and requirements. They take photographs the same way as 40 years ago and complain about customers not willing to pay them adequate rates - many of them in my region closing their business/studios. Helpless crybabes, without any creative/innovative answer to nowadays "smartphone revolution"...Their logic is nostalgy and self-pity - but the "good old days" are gone...
Their photography is not bad - but not good enough (by contemporary requirements) to make a living out of it, measured with creative and adaptive guys of the industry...They keep using Canon because of their reluctance to move their lazy/ignorant ass out of the comfort zone and change their own attitude...Instead of doing this and facing today's reality and their own failure, they complain all day about the downturn of the photographing industry...
