Novim got a reaction from Erthal in Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K gets BRAW in extensive FFPGA hardware update delivered via software
Perhaps not a full stop, maybe a half or 2/3 of it in my testing of BRAW in the last couple of days.
And to add, it seems to me that people who criticise BRAW - in the sense whether it is RAW or raw etc. - among other things forget that BRAW is also meant to be (post)processed in the DaVinci Resolve at the first place, where this new codec - which would evolve in time to come - shows as a very robust for grading. For me, it is gradable as much as cDNG, not to mention that it is more efficient for memory cards and computers. So far I wouldn't complain, and it is still posible to roll back to the 6.1 version with cDNG, if anyone needs so.

Novim got a reaction from Emanuel in Best gimbal for Pocket 4K?
This one - IceCam Tiny 3 Vision - looks interesting because it is light (only 840g, holds up to 2.5kg). It comes from Italy and perhaps some EosHD forum member from there could ask the IceCam company if it works with BMPCC 4K.

Novim got a reaction from webrunner5 in DJI Announcing Something New On The 28th
Yes, a good review. I have the Osmo Pocket for a week now, and although I've had a little time to test is properly, I tend to agree with the reviewer on many points. The video quality is good, surprisingly good for such a small camera. The sofware, however, both in the Pocket iiself, and in the Mimo app, seems somehow unfinished and a bit confusing. The better manual is also missing. The icons are not so intuitive, some options works in a strange way, or even don't work - like exposition correction in the the Mimo app, or, more important to me, a way to stop down overall exposition - one can change ISO down to 100, but still the light is too bright on a sunny, snowy day like here where I'm, so I had to increase shutter speed up to 1/800 (and the footage remains smooth, to my surprize, like it is not shutter speed change!?), since I have not found yet the way to stop down the aperture itself (it's more like it is always on f/2). - But it is good in low light, for inside shots, and my overall impresion is that this Osmo Pocket is useful for home or private (like travell) use. The footage is good, well stabilized (here I don't agree with the reviewer), and not bad for grading interventions in post. I hope the DJI will soon give us better software solutions for this interesting toy.

A decent toy, this Osmo Pocket - a YouTube example (1080, 60fps).

Novim got a reaction from Kisaha in Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K
A question (if it could be asked in this thread): Does the P4K absolutely need Resolve 15, or earlier Resolve 12.5 could grade a bit (in a very basic way) its shots and then export / edit all in FCPX for example? I have an old Mac Mini, good for Resolve 12.5, but weak for version 15. My P4K should come soon.
PS: In searching the net about the option to make a Linux station with Resolve 15, this exchange between and Unknown and an Anonymous enlightened me not to go in that direction: ?

For the first time ever I've come face to face with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K has come face to face with me. It's time to face facts without doing an about-face.

Novim got a reaction from Mmmbeats in Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K
An interesting read: http://www.focuspulling.com/bmpcc4k-learning/
For example, "Bob insists that the Pocket 4K’s sensor is not the same manufacturing part as the one in the GH5S", Bob being Bob Caniglia of Blackmagic Design.
Also, on P4K ("Quattro Kappa" for Italians) memory cards and SSD, USB-C variants, audio XLR and 4 mics on the camera, bluetooth remote control, Extended Video, dual ISO, shutter angle vs. speed, window(ed) shooting, etc.

Novim got a reaction from Aussie Ash in How stills killed casual video for me
With the stills you can basically do 3 things: 1) print some of them (the best way); 2) put some of them on the net (well, a mediocre way, since they loose their precious IQ, and get lost into net galaxies of pics), 3) bury them into a hard disk folder and essentially forget them. And there is perhaps a 4th way: sometimes to combine stills and video sequences into a short video, organize them as a story, put there some humor and irony, music etc. Then your stills could then gain a new life and perhaps remain less forgotten.
I'm for this playful combo of different rhytms of stills and video shots into videos, esp. as personal small projects that keep you on both sides of the image devide.

Novim got a reaction from webrunner5 in Time to dump Adobe. First impressions of Resolve 14 and EditReady 2.0
Amazing. I've put DaVinci 14 Public beta on my old Macbook Air 3,1 (late 2010, the first version of the small Air 11") just for fun, and it works pretty smoothly (apart from the rendering, of course).

Novim reacted to webrunner5 in Information on mobile phone filmmaking
This is a little footage I shoot without the Anamorphic lens on it. First try on the way to the Grand Canyon. iPhone 6s plus, 4k, with OIS on. No Gimbal.
This is one using the Came TV Gimbal without the Anamorphic lens. 4k, Jerome, Arizona. That is what a Saguaros Cactus skeleton looks like! I think that is the species?
I think the colors out of a iPhone are just scary good. They are sort of a miracle. But my old Samsung Note 4 in 4k was good also. I Highly recommend using Mobile Phones for Video!

Novim reacted to hyalinejim in Canon XC10 4K camcorder
Yes, EOS Standard is one of the ready to go profiles but it has the least heavy noise reduction applied to it. I've successfully matched it to C-Log and Magic Lantern Log, so I can use a range of luts on it.
Not sure what the second part of your post is asking? XC10 has a smaller sensor than M43 and its high ISO performance is not as good as the cameras you list. The XC10 image begins to deteriorate noticeably from 800 and starts to be problematic at 1600. Add a slow lens into the equation = camera always needs light.

Novim reacted to hyalinejim in Canon XC10 4K camcorder
I took my XC10 on hols with me to Bali and took it out for an hour or so on a few different occasions. Here's the first of those:
I shot in EOS Standard for all of the usual reasons and graded it with a custom LUT designed to simulate Ektar 100 film. Stuck a bit of grain on there as well, which kind of survived the vimeo compression but not quite. This was HD - I'm impressed again by the files in terms of their gradeability... as long as the ISO is low, which it was here. I have another video coming up with some nasty high ISO stuff!

Novim reacted to William Reynish in Shooting 4k and downscaling. No resolution benefits?
Thing is, most 1080p cameras can't actually resolve 1080p. This is due to de-bayering, scaling and compression. Zoomed in 1:1, most 1080p footage is blurry, lacking super fine detail. 4K (itself not completely sharp when looking at it 1:1) downscaled to 1080p gives you 'proper' 1080p with superb detail, way sharper than 'native' 1080p cameras can resolve.
Oh, and as for lenses, most prime lenses can definitely resolve 4K. 4K is still 'only' 12 megapixels. Almost all stills cameras are higher res than that. If lenses couldn't out-resolve 12 MP, why would you ever need more than 12 MP for stills?

Novim reacted to jase in An adventure into the Panasonic GX85/80 begins - and a look at the Leica Nocticron for Micro Four Thirds
Although nowadays GH5 and 5d 4k raw () are getting most of our attention, my partner GX80 doesnt let me down. Nothing special, yet another festival recap. This time however, I started getting used to color masks to remove the orange/green tint. Not perfect yet, plenty of room for improvement. Tell me what you think:
