  1. I know it hasn't been designed for that but I'm currently editing a little BTS and accidentally slapped GHAlex on some GoPro footage and.. it actually looks quite good. Of course there's some artifacting and stuff but it looks a lot better than standard protune.

Big shot is GoPro, small shot is GH5 shooting CineD. Same adjustment layer on both clips.

Hi, I would like to ask a somewhat complicated question, hoping to receive answers from those who have a lot of experience with the GH5.
I just took my usual doc in Africa using the GH5 in manual as always, but I got junk in the colors. Yet I use first-class cosse, such as the gray rolling filter, the gray card for the White Balance, etc. I use the "Natural" option and remove the contrast and color at -2 and then manage them in post. Unfortunately when I shoot in every country but not in Africa, I get very good results but not in Africa, where there is an incredible sun and red earth. I only film in african villages. Maybe manually I don't perfectly match the shutter speed and aperture because I often don't have the right time. Or maybe the real problem is another.
Maybe something escapes me. In my country I always do many tests that I then try to implement in Africa too. But every time I come with poor results in the clips, perhaps because I often don't have the right time to sort everything before shooting and I have to shoot quickly.
    My questions are:

Is it possible to film with aperture priority with the GH5?
Is there such a possibility? I have always used the GH5 in Manual and even reading the manual, I cannot find this option that I would like to choose.

I attach a link of one of my clips in UHD: luckily not all clips are like this, but many are like this:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/e7bhbuvocqvqkm9/Angola.MOV?dl=0

In your opinion, could I get good results with this Settings and also put the ISO in Automatic?
    1000 thanks

I don't think I understood what your problem is.. the clip you posted looks perfectly fine for me.

    1. The reputable journal Nature has added a disclaimer to the original article, saying there's no proof the current coronavirus is engineered

Yes, it has been proven that there's no credible evidence to support that the current strain of SARS-COV-2 is - https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/22221751.2020.1733440

    2. However I find it an incredible coincidence that the ONLY level 4 microbiology research lab in China handling deadly coronaviruses is in Wuhan, of all places.

There were multiple labs all over the world studying and researching coronaviruses. They have been known for years. Sure, it's interesting that the outbreak happened in the same city but it's just that, interesting. No causation proven.

    3. Then there's the strange reaction of the Chinese government in December and January, including towards doctors who reported the initial cases of what we now know of COVID-19. Intimidation, cover-ups, you name it.

It's just what a government like China does, nothing new, nothing extraordinary.

    4. Maj. Gen. Chen Wei, China's top bioweapons expert and others were dispatched to the Wuhan lab in January (According to - https://nypost.com/2020/02/22/dont-buy-chinas-story-the-coronavirus-may-have-leaked-from-a-lab/)

Uhh.. yeah, to study and research the virus? That's good.. right ?

    5. As early as 2013, the Chinese government researchers knew SHC014 and similar coronaviruses could bind to key receptor ACE2 in human lungs... But the wild animal markets stayed open. Why did China not open up about what they knew and take action on the markets? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26552008

There are multiple societal and economical reasons why nothing has been done at that time. You can pose the same question right now - why didn't EU/USA countries react sooner when first cases were known in China? Same reasons.

8 hours ago, Andrew Reid said:

    6. Many in the scientific community questioned the grave risks of such research at the time but China pressed on. Their government clearly wished to know if SHC014 could bind to ACE2 if it made the leap to humans. I am not suggesting they were searching for biological weapon ingredients...

You're clearly suggesting just that and once again, there's no proof that SARS-COV-2 has been engineered.

I'm not going to comment on the rest of your post since I don't have the time but maybe, just maybe we should talk about stuff we know, like I don't know, cameras; instead of stuff we have no idea and spewing mis-information. Your post is just adding to that pile.

  4. Different strokes for different folks. Both MF and AF are tools and it's up to you to decide what you need and want to use.

Youtubers talk a lot about AF because in their situation it is essential/super useful. It's one of the reasons why I want to switch to a7 II as a GH5 user.

Canon has announced it will be suspending operations at five of its plants on Japan’s Kyushu island due to supply shortages from China caused by COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

The five factories, located in the Oita, Miyazaki and Nagasaki prefectures, produce cameras and other photographic gear. The manufacturing facilities will shut down from March 2 to March 13, with Nikkei (translated) reporting these missed production days will be made up at a later time in the year when the supply of parts is more stable.

DPReview has contacted Canon for more details on what products these closures will affect. We will update this article accordingly if we receive a response.

RIP EOS R5 release? What about other camera manufactures?

  6. The whole 5 pages of this topic is why pre-production models and firmware makes zero sense to me. How am I supposed to get anything from these videos if everything they show is subject to change? How am I supposed to know if the jerky warpy IBIS is just pre-prod firmware or will be there in the camera I can ACTUALLY buy? How can I make a decision about the autofocus performance when everyone says "oh it's just pre-prod firmware it will be improved"?

All I can get from these videos is that the camera looks nice, but I could also take it from reading a spec sheet and looking at the images online. Everything else isn't representative of what I'll find in the store.

I just want a GH5 with proper autofocus.

Was believe NAB 2015 that Ryan Avery showcased Veydra's interest in releasing anamorphics. But 2x anamorphic and quite a bit bigger than that? It also was specifically designed for the GH4's multi aspect ratio sensor and crops, so when the GH5 dropped, they abandoned any further development. But in this industry and Meike releasing basically Veydra clones, who knows...

I for one can't wait for 300$ chinese anamorphic clones to start coming up.

Have a client that wants the most usable footage straight out of camera. He doesn't want to do any color work. Since I've been curious anyway, I pulled out the X-Rite color checker and shot a series of clips, changing the hue adjustment in the Natural profile for each. Thought you guys would be interested in the results.

GH5 with Sigma 18-35 and Viltrox EFM2, lit with 1 Westcott Flex 1x1. Used color checker to white balance in camera and to expose for middle gray. Bumped up saturation in post for easier viewing.

It seems that Natural with +4 HUE has the most accurate skin tones..

More tests and the full post linked above.

  9. I've posted the screenshots before but the video is out in case anyone would want to check it out. Guess which shot is the GH5 one 😄

    4k/10bit/100mbps HLG, graded with FilmConvert

rest of the cameras were the BM Production 4k, Sony A7 2 and Canon 600D (wild mix I know)

For the love of god please please tell me this was NOT a bts pic from while you were rolling! Although from that read lettering at the top of the BMPCC4K display I fear you were.

As the boom mic is waaaaaaaaay waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too far away!

There are at least tens of reasons why they placed the mic where it is. Don't criticize before you know all the circumstances.

Yes that Jazz concert. Wow i wasn't expecting HLG, but looks great. And zeros wow.

So Hue at -1 is for Cine profiles only yes?

To be honest with you I only use HLG because it's the highest DR profile besides V-Log which I don't have 😄 I think I'd use V-Log if I had it. HLG has some problems with a weird green cast that.. crap, now that I'm thinking about it I think I did have -1 on hue on that particular shoot because of that, but I went back to 0 because FilmConvert seems to correct it very well.

  12. 12 hours ago, Rango said:

I love your concert image quality. What profile and settings did you use to film it and did you color grade it later, and if so with what LUT?

    Thank you.

Thanks man! If you're asking about these ones -

     - then it was HLG with all options on 0 and a quick grade with FilmConvert.

@Sage Any downsides to acquiring in HLG and then converting to Vlog-L and then Rec709 using GHAlex?

Maybe I’m crazy, but I find the AF is better when there is a bit more contrast in a profile.

I know you're asking Sage but personally I use HLG simply because it's free ? I think I'd prefer V-Log if I had it because I had some issues with a weird green color cast when editing HLG.

And in this years 2020 nominees, one of the most talked about docu, American Factory (first film out of Obama's production company) was shot on... a 2014 C100 mk2:

Don't get me wrong but it definitely looks like it was shot in 2014 ;) It just shows that if you have a good story you can make it happen on anything.

  15. If you just want the stream, rent a Teradek Vidiu or something like that and you're done.

If you want to add overlays and stuff, get the elgato camlink and hook it up to your laptop. Use external battery or something for power.

Just curious, why not do your color in DaVinci?

All I really do on this project is mess around with the RAW settings, slap the FilmConvert on and call it a day and I don't really want to buy another version just for Resolve.

Plus I'm so much faster editing multicam shoots in Premiere than I am in Resolve and if I can keep the entire project to one program I will :)
