    Rava_Rama reacted to Rinad Amir in Firmware Ver.1.1 set to expand 4K camera's 4:2:2 10-bit GH5
Hey Everyone Upcoming update for GH5 is on Monday
Panasonic has announced the first of its planned firmware updates (Ver.1.1) for the LUMIX GH5, which will expand the camera’s 4:2:2 10-bit video recording mode.
The new firmware enables 4:2:2 10-bit video recording in either FHD [MP4(LPCM)] / [MOV] or Anamorphic (4:3) modes, in addition to the existing 4K video recording mode. The GH5 delivers Cinema 4K (4096×2160) video at 60p and 4K at 50p, using the entire width of the sensor when shooting 4K and then downsampling the footage in-camera.
    What the firmware will offer
In 4:2:2 10-bit 1920×1080 Full HD [MP4(LPCM)] / [MOV] mode the firmware will offer 50p and 25p (PAL), 59.94p, 29.97p and 23.98p (NTSC) and 24p (Cinema) – all at 100Mbps with Long GOP image compression. Whilst in 4:2:2 10-bit Anamorphic mode (3328×2496) it will offer 25p (PAL), 29.97p and 23.98p (NTSC) and 24p (Cinema) at 150Mbps with Long GOP image compression.
    Bug fixes
The firmware version 1.1 for the GH5 also includes following bug fixes:
    • A problem in which the exposure adjustment did not operate properly during live view standby under specific condition in using (Variable Frame Rate).
    • A problem in which afterimages appeared when recording video under high ISO sensitivity settings in using (V-LogL).
    Release date
The new GH5 firmware (Ver.1.1) is scheduled to be released on Monday 24 April 2017 – you will be able to find out all about it on that day by visiting the LUMIX Customer Support website by clicking http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/

Yeah looking boring so far but remember... it doesn't start proper until Monday.
And leaks usually don't start to appear until the day before.
However I am not that hopeful for much excitement on the camera side. Sony probably won't come with an A7S 3 just yet... Panasonic probably won't come with much as GH5 still fresh... Canon probably asleep and Nikon probably doesn't even know NAB is on

Well I have to confess... this pisses me off. Not only did they not fix the crop, but they also pretty much gave a big FU to the owners of the 1DXMkII. A camera that many have argued needed C-Log from even before launch. The annoying thing is the hardware in these cameras is more than capable of producing 14 bit raw at 24p, or 60p. It is simply a neutered in order to protect the Cinema line. Personally, if my intention was only to shoot video I would not choose the DSLR form factor. And I believe the same is true for most of us. Crippling the capabilities of these cameras is pure BS. I feel like the only real threat to Canon is Sony. It they can somehow fix their color science and perhaps increase their bit depth to 12 bits... as I'm not certain 10bits is a huge difference. Then they will have a real winner on their hands. But it cannot be in the A7 series... it must be in the larger A9 series. As a larger battery is needed. Also there needs to be ample space to allow for heatsinks to dissipate heat.

    Dam you Canon...

I've been a PC guy all my life, just happened like that, like starting with Canon or Nikon. I have zero brand fetishism or preference. I'll switch to Linux or Mac as soon as I see any advantage but right now the Mac computer are just too expensive for the specs.
At home my girlfriend recently bought one of their latest laptop and Iphone and every-time she needs to do something beyond internet browsing she calls me to rescue her:
    - Want to install some "exotic" software, NOPE, it doesn't work on Mac
    - Want to watch a movie via the Laptop HDMI, of course there is no HDMI out on the Mac laptop
    - Want to plug anything in general ? NOPE, there is very little connectivity and the removal of the 3.5mm is utterly stupid IMHO. Just another excuse to sell you overpriced accessories. Plus, I hate the wireless accessories, it always runs out of battery when you need it the most.
    - Need a basic apple cable ? You must buy the dedicated Apple cable for $29 or it won't work properly.
As for Apple and ethic, they are no better or worst than all the other silicon valley hipster companies. They are here to do business. They are not cool or evil, just protecting their own interest. Fighting Trump immigration policy when it's bad for their HR strategy but they haven't said anything about the new FCC policy change regarding selling the internet history...

Rava_Rama reacted to Mattias Burling in Review of the service Stolen Camera Finder!
When you buy and sell used camera gear  you need to be careful. A lot of stolen stuff floats around and markets like eBay makes it easy for them to disappear. That’s why a service like Stolen Camera Finder is a godsend.
    http://www.stolencamerafinder.com/
I recently bought a Leica T. A lovely camera. For street shooting I would say its the best camera I’ve ever used. Totally in love!
But this is not about the camera.
The price was fine, the seller had a long history, everything seemed legit. He even provided the serial number. When I got it home I tested it out and everything was fine. The day after I had to leave for a tripp and I naturally brought the camera. It was not until I got home that I remembered that I should just do a routine check of the number on Stolen Camera Finder.
Why I didn’t do this beforehand, like I usually do is beyond me…
Stolen Camera Finder works by crawling the internet and sites like Flickr, registering EXIF Data.
In many cameras the unique serial number of the camera and lens are imbedded in the data. You then simply drag-n-drop an image on the site or enter the number manually. If the crawler gets a match its BINGO!
    You can:
Find a stolen camera Report a found camera Checkout previous owners of camera Track stolen and reposted images So What Happened?
I entered the number manually and… Bingo!
It had been reported stolen in Spain two years ago. So I filed a report of a “Camera Found” and waited for a day or two.
Since I didn’t hear anything I contacted Matt, who runs the site.
He has now put me in touch with the original owner who lives in Italy and we are working out the details on how it will be returned!
All in all I will probably loose a bit of money since the seller probably wont pay up and/or used a fake name etc. But I will certainly gain a bit on my “Feel Good Account”.
And at the end of the day, I would love it if the same thing happened to me if anything ever got stolen.
A bit of a sunshine story imo
(now back to searching for a new Leica T, like its slogan says, "Easy to use, Hard to forget".)

So you started this thread simply because you didn't like seeing Andrew "gush" over a camera he's waited for, received, has in hand, and realized he likes? It's a good thing Andrew's 'gushing' didn't start to ramp up until after he received it, and had some time to really check out.  Maybe it's because you're taking offense to his opinion on Canon's current status in the industry? I mean, it's his opinion... and I'd kinda expect Andrew to post his excitement, dislike, opinions for any camera/camera manufacturer he chooses... especially on the front page of a site he created. Protesting personal opinion's on camera specs and camera selection... is that it?  I dunno - carry on

    Not this shit again.
It's only a quarter size sensor if super 35 is a half size sensor and super 16 is a 1/8 size sensor.
Low light on this thing is actually pretty good - it's not the A7S but it's comparable to the A6300, A6500. Maybe a stop under, becoming noticeable as you get to the upper end of the ISO range.

Only in terms of depth of field, but if you see the sensor size as a potential advantage that allows you deeper DOF for the same level of light transmission, then that can be an advantage. There's also a (admittedly very expensive) 7-14 2.8 lens from an Olympus, and a 7.5mm F2 manual focus almost-pancake from Laowa launches shortly. If you want to work with Speed Boosters a ' FF 18mm F1.8' is attainable with a 14mm 2.8 and a Speed Booster XL. But how often do you shoot at Ultra wide? There are a bunch of fast options for M43 from the 20mm on full frame and upward.
I guess it just depends on what you're using it for. You have a point that the auto focus is weak vs the competition, and also about the body getting a bit big for micro 4/3.  I think that's preferable to a too small body that overheats. I'm guessing that the IBIS, 10 bit, high frame rates, etc necessitated a size increase from the GH4, along with the professional features they've added (HDMI and dual SD slots).
If you're all about low light, a Canon cinema EOS or Sony A7s makes much more sense.

Anyway 5d doesn't have ibis which means for some still deal breaker, I hardly use my monopod with ibis machines which gives me much more freedom.
Goodnews to some my friends who got iv mainly for still, maybe they can branch out video for real lol

Canon rumors guy says it's a new source.
Sounds too good to be true.
I hope it is though. It would solve the problem of Canon and poor DSLR video in a stroke.
I wouldn't like to see the rolling shutter skew on the 5K readout, as it is already pretty extreme with just the centre crop at 4K.
