  1. Its difficult to find recent om-1 video examples on youtube made by professionals. The long-term reviews for video makers are also lacking.

After reading this forum, my early enthusiasm is fading a bit to. With the upcoming om5 perhaps having the same video specs (based on nothing btw), a price point of $1600 puts it against a r7.

So what is the verdict on video quality and ease of use. I know 4k 24p looks good, but is 4k 60p line skipped or same quality? And 1080p is still the same Olympus style over sharpened garbage?

  2. Super cool idea! I had an mft to nikon z adapter (no electronics) to use the meike cine lenses on both camera’s.

Does this one lock the lenses strong enough and how difficult is it to release the lens?

If possible the electrnic version would be super. I dont know how, but then again there is the super thin autofocus adapter for sony e to nikon z..

  3. I am anticipating the om-5 and currently have an e-m5 iii. Does anyone with the om-1 is able to compare 1080p quality to the e-m5iii or e-m1ii?

I am curious if the 1080 24, 60p and 120p have a big quality jump now that 10 bit internal is available. I find the 1080p on the e-m5 iii total garbage even the high bitrate all-i. Looks soft and oversharpend at the same time, like upscaled 720p footage.

  4. Looks like a good value proposition, bit I cannot find if the r7 is 10 bit in all modes? If so its a good competitor to the xt4 and om1.

I might be tempted to use this with the drop in filter adapter from ef to r, for semi- internal nd solution. I can find ef-s glass for almost free here second hand.

  5. I would base my choice on the type of video’s you make. If its fast output and events that are run and gun, I’ll opt for the convenience of the z6ii. Battery live, autofocus and a color profile to get it right in camera (so forget 10 bit). Either flat or portrait with some adjustments will do. The hassle of external recording and diminishing results is what’s frustrating to you, so use the z6 to its strengths. If you have a bit more control and pre production of the shooting day, the bmpcc would be my choice.

  6. I had the chance to try out the om-1 yesterday with a omd rep in store. Also was able to try out all the pro lenses including the new 20mm and 45-150 f4. Super fun 🙂 I used it over an hour.

I was really impressed with the camera. Great build and ergonomics. Loved the new evf and interface. And finally you can override the autofocus during recording with a press of a button and get peaking. Iso 6400 was grainy in video but colors hold up well. Also the grain is a nice pattern not color noise. To me it looks like a refined camera for m43 video and photography that’s is a pleasure to use.

Can anyone please comment on how Panasonic M43 lenses pair with Olympus bodies for stills and video in terms of IS and AF? Pro's / con's.

    Lenses include 12-35mm f2. 8 and 200m f2. 8

    Thanks

The 12-35mm pairs great with my em5iii. Ibis works just as good as the Olympus 12-40mm, autofocus is fast and silent to so no problems there. Its either ibis or lens IS, but I read that Olympus ibis is better / just as good as panasonic sync IS.

Manuel focus fly by wire is not so great, very erratic. The panasonic/leice 15mm for example seems to be more linear and pleasing. Also keep in mind that weather sealing is not perfect. For that you unfortunately need Olympus on Olympus or panasonic on panasonic.

I keep thinking: "What can I sell to get it?" Having just received a new E-M5 iii, I cannot really justify it, but believe me, I want it! ...just don't need it (and I'm not a pro). I'll be playing the used game when it's available in 1 or 2 years.

Exactly the same for me. I also have and love the E-m5 iii. There are some quirks (limited options to change settings during recording) and some wishes (better preamps, 10 bit internal, usable 6400 iso and better dynamic range, pd powering) that this camera addresses.

I will wait for the first reviews and OM promotion and then probably buy it.

Why is the loupe not usable compared to evf?
It worked wel when I tried it.

It does give an extra point of contact when handheld and its pretty decent optically

Personaly I found the quality of the loupe-lens a bit disapointing. And it made the ergonomics a little strange to handle (buttons ect)

  10. I am so excited for this camera. Realy like the concept of the hybrid camer re-imagened.

Also a big plus that is doesnt need a external recorder, but goes directly to a ssd for its DNG recording.

This way I can see a small m2 ssd enclosure (like the tilta bmpcc 4k mod) snugly against the side becoming a big hit.

Had it in my hands at IBC and its not as imbalanced as I first thought. However, the loupe is not usable as an evf alternative for me.

There seems to be a slight noise coming from my 23mm f2 though its very very quiet. I hear nothing on the 18-55.

I just tried the linear mode, actually works really well especially on the 18-55. Still prefer manual glass.

Thanks for checking. Could be the older lenses or camera that I have that causes it. So I’ll have to check this for myself. And yes I also have a whole bunch of old manual lenses that I like to use :)

In my experience they are basically impossible to manual focus at least if you are pulling focus for a moving shot. Focus throw is either way to long or too short. Thats with the 50mm f2, 23mm f2, 18-55mm, and 50-230mm

This is pretty much standard across all brands though. I have a set of vintage lenses I use for manual focusing.

Mm that doesn't sound good. The pannasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 is also notorious for this, but I found that I could get acceptable results with practice. Did you also experienced the same stepping issue with audible sounds on those lenses?

  13. I'm really tempted to make this my hybrid camera as I already own the xpro1 and the 35mm f/1.4 and 18mm f/2, and shoot video on a bmmcc and the panny 12-35mm f/2.8. As I only use both for personal projects, this is a bit of a hassle.

The thing that holds me back is the manual fly-by-wire focussing of the native xf lenses. On the xpro1 using manual focussing (in photo mode) is horrible. It jitters and the focus is visible in 'steps', not to mention the noise (audible thuck-thuck-thuck). Even if the autofocus modes seems to be good, I would prefer to fall back on a manual focus option that is useable.

Can somebody please inform me about the native xf lenses and their preformance in manual focussing mode on the xt3?

    Which one NX-Patch or KS?
NX-Patch v5.3 on NX500 work fine for me, no issues with audio.

I did found a solution for those who have the same problem (no audio on custom 25/50/30/60P)!
If you select one of these framerates and exit the menu. Then reopen the menu and select a different speed. Exit the menu again. Now you set the speed back to default and you can record sound again!
