Well I bought a used OnePlus Pro 9. Got a really good deal on one from a Pawnshop, like 350 bucks used. And a friend of mine wanted to buy my Xperia Pro-1 for nearly what I paid for it so why not. He has several Sony FF cameras, and they sort of work together well. So, a win for him and well me also.
I have been a fan of the OnePlus cameras, never had one but like an underdog. And this video helped push me over to the Pro 9. I have not got it yet, mid next week they say. So, something else to learn but hey sort of like doing that stuff. They have had some nice updates on the phone as of late. Good looking B&W and the XPan thing is interesting. We shall see soon enough.
Interesting that the picture they use of the camera is not a OnePlus Pro 9 it is the cheaper model OnePlus 9, hmm. But footage is using the Pro 9 in the video, odd. Oh well.

Funny video showing 3 different approaches to phone footage. Motion Cam looks pretty good on it I think. No clue what phone he was using though.

I have been preaching that to the choir here and very few listen lol. Smartphones already are better other than maybe zoom lenses than nearly all consumer cameras now. Sure, top end cameras with top end glass are better but at what price?
And with the Motion Cam app you have Raw to boot on the Android phones. Amazing stuff for an amazing price these days right in your pocket.

When you are retired even 150 is a ball buster. I paid 109 dollars for my GH2, I had to eat dog turds and tree bark for 2 weeks to make it up. The yard is clean now, but the trees look like crap 😜

According to my maths, that would be 20 weeks to afford a used S1R and about 9 years on that diet to get the Leica SL2.
Not worth it for the Leica.

I'm gradually pushing myself to see how basic/manual a camera I can get away with using as a proof of concept.  That's why I'm shooting with my P2K and my GX85 in full-manual.
If I find that these things are do-able then it will put cameras like the P4K, P6K Pro, Sigma FP, etc on the potential list, which have much nicer image quality and DR than the GH5 and (potentially) GH6.  We haven't seen a lot from the GH6 but that just means that the jury is still out on it, rather than it being ruled out.
Whenever I hear someone saying "I want.." as some sort of statement that implies they should get it just because they want it, I just reply with "I want a Lamborghini." and normally follow it with "what's your point?" or "but back here in reality" or "I love to dream" etc...  The kids probably find it annoying as hell but it amuses me no end!

I'm comparing UHD on a 1080p timeline, but they're rough figures anyway.
In terms of not being able to see 1-2 stops of DR difference, if its right at the edges of what is visible then yeah, you can totally see it.  Have you ever even shot in uncontrolled conditions and tried to pull detail from both ends of the spectrum?  It's really sounding like you haven't because I have, and it's really quite obvious.

https://www.cined.com/fujifilm-x-t3-review/ And you are not even comparing the same test to each other. It would be 12.4 at max not 13. Like you are really going to see 1 to 1.2 stops with you eye.

    You're thinking about this wrong.
The P4K / P6K / P6K Pro have a very strong feature-set and this addition gives them PDAF.  The only other ways to add good AF to a setup the same way is to either hire a focus puller, or to upgrade to a camera that has everything the BM cameras have but also has PDAF.  Either of these options easily runs into the tens-of-thousands-of-dollars.
The problem with cameras is that people don't compare the full package, only isolated features, but when you're buying a camera you can get one feature very cheap, but for each extra feature you want it multiplies the cost - by the time you have internal RAW and 13 stops of DR the addition of PDAF creates a pretty small and expensive list of potential candidates.

True, at the end of the day the story is what matters. But man you really get a sense of satisfaction when you make an image you are proud of.

I disagree, I think even a lot of us can be fooled by some Smarthpnone stuff if it doesn't involve long zooms and big DoF. There are some damn good phones out now, and if you use Raw it can be even better if you are skilled at grading.  So I really doubt the average person has a clue what is good or bad filming wise.
It still boils down to if the footage is interesting to a large audience. When I was young stuff was so terrible quality wise it was ridiculous but hell I didn't know it at the time. I watched stuff in amazement as did everyone else. It is the story that holds you, not the camera shooting it.
Sure, if are shooting weddings you need some good stuff and a lot of skill. But damn some of the best Si Fi movies were shot on crap cameras along with pretty crap actors, and horror movies hell the worse the quality the better.

Well eBay is like anything else, if it is priced well it will sell, if you are asking a crazy price if will never sell, but you can get a lot more on eBay than if you sell it to Adorama or B&H.
But why not a Panny S5 or a Panny GH5 over a XT3?? I have got to the point that I F ing hate FF lenses for the size and weight.

Well it’s been ages since I have posted anything. Found this at the supermarket today while shopping. Very nearly bought it, if it had been a 100 iso I would have.

Had a germ of an idea bouncing around upstairs for awhile now. Have had the magic 2 pro out a couple of times in the last  two weeks. Webrunners post about the iPhone LiDAR and the p4k has me inspired to do something, not entirely sure what yet.

I’m not really sure how to answer this…
For one thing, I rarely look at what anyone else is doing as it’s such a rabbit hole.
Otherwise, I have a plan of sorts in regard to what I shoot with both stills and video, and there is some crossover, but at the same time elements unique to each.
Ceremonies and speeches for instance I use 2 ‘extra’ static cameras which leaves me free to roam, mostly shooting stills.
Details that a lot of pure videographers shoot, I tend to ignore and leave purely to stills.
Candid people tends to be the biggest crossover area when I tend to capture the same scene in both formats ‘at the same time’, ie, seconds apart.
There is also quite a bit of focal length difference.
I dunno, it kind of just is what it is and kind of evolved by itself over the last 12 years I have been shooting hybrid… 🤷‍♂️

The ultimate statement about DR is perhaps that people shooting with an Alexa or RED which have the highest DR capturing around still light and control their contrast ratios.  Yes, they can push and pull the RAW / Prores files from those cameras in ways that we can only dream of, but they still take the time and effort to capture it right in-camera.
There's no substitute for making your scene look how you want it, even if you have 15+ stops of DR and have 14-bit RAW.

Yer i should have said an iphone with lidar.  although in reality it seems  only last two iterations of phones thats that have it then.  Seen some apps that make use of it for measuring and mapping i think. But since i cant see a need for it i'm loathe to install  any apps  onto my phone unless i use it frequently.
Its kinda ironic ( to me at least ) just how much homework you need to do, to keep a handle on things in an effort to save some dollars regardless of hobby 🙄
    with a pk4 you'd think i'd be all over it except i'm not 😔

We used the small pocket on the gimbal two weeks ago during film production in Bulgaria and Greece, the road was very narrow and there was only one solution, the small pocket on the gimbal. We use the camera for certain scenes and whenever the Arri Alexa is used as an A-Cam. Do you know why? There is no modern camera that combines better with Arri Alexa except the older Blackmagic cameras.
Smartphones will never replace it, because it's not the sensor size, but the sensor specifications, the color science, dynamic range and the possibilities in color grading. Some think that the sensor doesn't matter and that RAW or a good codec is all that matters. I can tell you from my experience with colorists that this is not true.

doesn't seem to connect with blutooth on version 6.9.1 on the pk4  now downloading version 7.9.1 for the bmp4k 🙄
Its a cheap option only if you already have a late model iphone and electronic lens. Although iphone 13 ultras aren't exactly cheap either. Lucky i have one lying around... knew it would come in handy one day....
So for a whole bunch of lenses that i own, i  would be better  off with @BTM_Pix lidar setup and focus motors. While not cheaper per se ,  its at the moment  probably one of the few options if you travel the path of vintage lenses.
Thinking aloud, it seems to me theres a bit of a fork in the road with lidar you can go down the path with a p4k, vintage lenses and btm_pix's product and focus motors ( and autofocus lenses as well )  or  grab a iphone that has the lidar sensor and use lenses with auto focus. Neither is a particularly cheap path if your starting from scratch, if i'm honest but it is what it is.
Not that i'm saying this stuff is expensive, its certainly cheaper than  5 years ago and you can do a lot of amazing things with it today.
I guess its a bit of, if it were really easy or cheap everyone would be doing it. Plus anything that gets me inspired to grab the p4k for a change is probably a good thing.
Plus its nice to see some action down in this particular forum 🙂
