They put pixel shift on the wrong camera. S1 is the one that would benefit the most. And I highly doubt it would eat any profit from the S1R ether, just more ppl going for S1 in the first place.

Button layout and ergonomics looks great!
and finally a dedicated back focus button instead of reassigning ae-l button.
I like the top LCD, none of that OLED crap!
And the big lens for EVF looks very good.
It better not have a glaring flaw to break it all.

Focal length or pan speed does not really matter as long as you can see and measure the effect.
In short you have a vertical line like a lamp post, when you pan it at a constant speed you take the distance between two frames, then you check how much the bottom part of the line lags behind. Then you calculate the % of the distance that it lagged compared to distance moved. Then you take the frame time, roughly 42ms for 24fps. And you apply your % to that.
X-T2 would be about 72% lag if RS is 30ms. Which when you think about it it is quite a lot, the bottom part of the image is lagging a significant portion of the frame behind.
The a6300 pretty much lags an entire frame behind between top and bottom, which is why 30fps had to be cropped (only 33ms to work with)

This probably bugs me more than it should, but they always leave out the f45 part from the equivalent equation. Don't large numbers there sound equally impressive?
24-3000mm f15-45 suddenly sounds really stupid when it comes to light gathering.
4.2-532mm f2.8-8 is the real lens but I'm starting to think that is a stretch too. Although it is impressive zoom range tho, but why.

Since when have bayer sensors been a problem?  I have taken lots of pictures with my Nikon D80 that I have come back to and went wow, that looks amazing, and back then I didn't shoot raw cause I only had 2GB SD card.
He goes on that numbers don't mean anything and yet he completely dissed anything "modern" with high "pixel count" as being not good enough? a step backward?
I thought he meant to make a point that content was the important part but it was kinda lost when he pretty much went to spec war film vs modern, which on paper had the better spec(k). (pun intended) Oh and you also need to shoot on Cooke. Not cookie or cake.

    that is not a 24-200 f2.8-f4.5
    it's a 9-72mm f2.8-f4.5
or 24-200 f7.4-f12.4 (opening is 18mm high which would be f11 so there is likely some errors somewhere in there or it's not optimal in size)
At the wide end they could have made it a LOT faster than it is.
Front element would have to be 44.4mm which is as large as the entire lens assembly. Or 76% of the cameras height.
    That would have been a 24-135mm f5.4-f7.5
    or 8.9-50mm f2.0-2.8

Then the focus or object distance is not the same.
The APD filter will decrease the apparent aperture and "smooth" it out, and increase DoF somewhat while changing it's character. That is why it's there and what it does. Darkening the edge of the lens is the same thing as stopping it down but smoother. In fact you can do exactly that, stop down by a small amount and take multiple exposures decreasing aperture slightly and then combine them for the the same effect.

Did you have to grab the one shot he managed to screw up. If you look at the wide open and 1.4 shot you see the bokeh being slightly smaller due to the filter which is 100% expected.

You could put it at front element and at aperture blades. Front element would not work as well if you use it for FF but probably decent enough for 1.5 or 2x crop. The problem would be finding a filter to begin with.

Got a GX9 arriving tomorrow... about time I did a review of something cheap with the big shift to high-end stuff. Let me know what you'd like to see in the review of it.

It is absolute. But for some reason lens manufacturers don't seem to follow the theoretical magic lens that was used to make it.
And since lenses are made with other aberrations in mind large aperture wide angle lenses will always struggle for small sensors. Try make a lens for a phone sensor with the same DoF as a FF 50mm f1.4. You might argue that it's an extreme example but does show there is a upper limit (or lower) so it has to follow a line or curve of some sort. And when pushing that extreme FF will always win out in that regard. Does it matter when you stay inside the extreme? No, the equivalency is happy to work just fine when not pushed to the edge of oblivion.

Look, if you flip the terms of the equation the only thing equivalency will tell you is how to get the same diameter lens with different focal lengths. It's simply a number that relates things to each other and make them comparable.
You are 100% correct in that I think it's not that relevant and as you have shown lens construction or "features" is more important. However the lenses you showed do NOT have the same aperture which is evident in the upper right corner, I would suspect that f4 is the "mean" aperture of the apodization filter which makes sense as you loose light to the darkened edges of the filter. I do like the idea of such a filter and want to try to make one for my 50mm f1.4 that have aperture to "spare" so to speak.

For what the equivalency formula is it holds true, but at the same time you have to understand what it does not do.

If you look at Nikon lenses the large flange distance means the angle can't be too high simply due to the distance. (ignore the wonky ultra wide angle that had a long element stick in under the mirror).
Sony on the other hand had a huge problem with the a7s giving a red cast with some wide angle lenses.

I know Servers, the things that hums along in data centers and never break, right? Well no, they do break and what is considered essential is the ability to repair them and replace parts along with the support to back it up.
Same with cameras, I know a pro sports shooter that had his gear held up for a big game and Canon had reps waiting with gear in hand for him to do his job.
Now I would not expect same level of support for consumer equipment, but iMac Pro to not even be fixable?

I played around a bit with Resolve and you can get some tools with live feed. But it's not a lite solution.
If you manage to find some pixel shaders to do the calculations in youc ould use MPC-HC or similar that supports running pixel shaders.

While 2x16GB is indeed a great start, RAM price is not the nicest nowdays. But I guess that is what happens with a planned shortage to drive price up. Going to be interesting to see what happens with that lawsuit, if it even change anything since it's not the first time it happened.
This is why I like ECC in a workstation, granted I have not heard of anyone having RAM problem in years unless you count lightning strike or other causes.

The repair center where going to repair it(since they said they already ordered the parts from Apple), but where forced to deny repair since Apple refused to send any parts for it. This is Apple denying there own service center parts and making it so that noone can fix it, anywhere, ever.
No matter how you dress that up the smell still going to come through.

Highlight and shadow rollof is going to have a huge effect on motion blur. Thins that usually looks stuttering is dark objects like lamp posts against a bright background like sky. If you look closely you can see it has 180* shutter but half of it is so faint it's almost invisible. So what you end up with is a lot higher "shutter speed" than what you originally thought. So you would need to overcompensate with say 1/40 or even 1/30 to keep those parts looking smooth. But then other parts that have lower contrast ends up being too smooth, maybe.
Since old film cameras sometimes had a rotating shutter the leading and trailing "edge" would be somewhat faded and not as abrupt which I guess would lead to a smoother motion. Just like the filter thingy mentioned in the thread.

I hope thy use Fusion engine in Resolve, it's so far superior compared and it reads way more formats than Resolve. Although the one or two formats Resolve can read is not hard to beat.
But I would settle for a Resolve that don't crash or lock up for 5 sec, that would be an epic improvement.
