Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K ‘Models Walking in Daylight’
John Brawley talks about the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K for the first time. ‘Models Walking in Daylight’ is his first camera test where he checked out the camera’s ability to handle different skin tones.
“The whole point to this daylight test was to see how the camera handled skin tones. We were shooting these scenes later in the afternoon, so I was at ISO1000 or 1250, so it was at the lower ISO for this camera. I understand this gives more in dynamic range, so you have a little bit more highlight-headroom there. When I look at those shots now, I am really impressed at how good the dynamic range is. It is great to see all of that detail I was seeing was actually captured in those shots.”
“I don’t think people realize how easy it is to make things look cinematic with Micro Four Thirds! I know that there are a lot of people who like that 35mm full frame look, but it’s still very easy to get images with an out of focus background with the Micro Four Thirds sensor. I found it a great 4K sensor and really good compromise for a small camera that still gets really, really good looking pictures.”

I like the footage. I think also the grading has something to do with highlights rolloff/near clipping in the forrest. I like also the higher ISO performance, quite clean. And last part is also nice. Looking for more footage please.

Mark Wyatt talks about using the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. ‘Nature’ is Mark’s test of the camera’s 4K performance in the extreme lighting conditions of rainforests and ravines.
“The camera tests I wanted to do were in the forests and waterfalls on the outer West Coast of Canada. I was really interested in seeing how the new sensor would handle these harsh lighting conditions. By increasing the ISO to an impressive 1250 and 2500, it allowed me to capture the dark moss-lined walls and unique emerald color, yet also hold onto the highlight detail of the top of the waterfall and sky. I feel most cameras would likely struggle with this scene.”
“I had the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K for only a few days, but overall I was really impressed by it. The weight of the camera is very liberating, especially when you are used to using larger camera systems. The screen is big and bright enough to use in daylight, which I found great for judging focus and exposure. And, the colors too on the screen, were also nicely represented. In fact, I would argue it is Blackmagic’s best screen yet.”

So Tesla has some unnecessary side-battles to fight now, which I am sure the oil and established auto industry will use against their biggest rival. It's important for the whole damn planet that Elon Musk achieves his goals at Tesla and at SpaceX. Vital for humanity. People simply cannot get their heads around this. They are constantly gossiping and looking for ways to bring him down. Sure he's overworked. Yes, on sleeping pills. Maybe he even has a girlfriend (musician Grimes) who may not be the most stable presence (personally, I like her!). Yes, he may well have been on acid when he made the tweet about securing funding to take the company private at $420 a share. Who cares.
People need to look past all this gossip, even the possible breach of the law, and give the guy a break.
Imagine our city streets with no pollution and breathable air.
Imagine a home on another planet, ready to continue humanity after we fuck up this one.
Every investor in Tesla should let Musk concentrate on his health away from the extra pressure of lawsuits.

I have nothing to do with this film other than i think it's amazing! They've been, like they always are, very open with everything through out the whole process. Including gear which is why i thought it would fit here on EOSHD.
Premiered on Swedish cinemas four days ago.
Total budget: $2M, shot on FS7 and vintage Russian lenses. More info below.

This is the complete set of lenses we used. A total price of less then $800.

Wow. Thanks for those kind words. I’m the director/writer/VFX-supervisor & a member of Crazy Pictures which means that I’m kind of involvd in most things regarding this project. We worked qite hard to achive a high production value with the small budget we had, so it feel GREAT to hear that you enjoyed the result.
(extra fun to hear about your girlfriends reaction!)
If there’s anything you wonder about the production, the process or some technical details, feel free to ask.

The new album (last I heard) was at No.7 in the official UK chart.
I'm a big fan of what Panasonic has done with this camera.
That said, the shining star of this video is the band.

all lenses used are the rokinon 24mm f1.4 and Canon 50mm f1.4
Watching in 4k is strongly recommended as YouTube loves compressing things

Likewise. It's also getting ridiculous, especially if you don't even own the camera anymore or ever. I'm actually getting disheartened by the whole ordeal.
If its real, it's real, if not oh well. I refuse to troll anyone let a lone a kid over it. I'm going to advise him to stop posting replies until go time, it's obviously not doing him any favors. Andrew says a few words and you all go into a frenzy. Really?
Arikhan doesn't even have to prove anything, he could keep it all for himself, but his motivation is he wants to give back to this community in particular. As the author of the Samsung petition I know a little something about this. There was never any gaurantee it would work, but at least I gave it a shot.
My hope is he will look past the antics of some here and follow through regardless.
@lucabutera Its in your best interest more than anyone else here to show support for this kid, as you have some adapters to sell? If this mod is legit it's you that will benefit the most. Your attitude here is confusing to me.

    Nope - No improved RS
    No sound (at the moment)
    No 30/48/50/60 or higher fps
Same miserable failure in low-light as generally known
No DIS (but lens stabilization + AF working)
    No overheating encountered (till now)
Not coming before or on April first...
...but the undefeated detail and sharpness king for 4K beauty shots in controlled light and daylight scenarios...and ridiculously maleable in post, even in the eyes of  professionally working picky VFX and grading experts...

Thanks. We should be releasing a trailer in the next month or so. We are about 60 percent done editing. Had to grab some pick up scenes.
For lenses, I like using older ones for NX1. I shot at 2-2.8 split. This camera has some really deep inky blacks, which I love, but using older lenses lowers the contrast, which gives me an extra half to 3/4 stop when used in conjunction with filters.
Generally I expose for mood. I use white pro mist/soft fx filters, fog/haze, nets to roll off harsh highlights or under expose to protect important highlights or just look in another direction to avoid them. I've found through testing that I can safely recover about 1.5 stop of shadow detail before the image begins falling apart. But honestly I just let things go dark. I rarely recover shadows. But if i need too, i know i can. If theres something that needs to be seen, I'll generally bring in a light fill bounce/light to bring up levels. I don't rely on bumping up iso. Messes with grain texture too much. I like to keep images clean and consistent. I rarely go above 400 iso. Sometimes 800 if I'm short on time.
My thought process with limited DR cameras is to shoot for end goal. WYSIWYG.
We were influenced by Netflix Daredevil, which also goes pretty dark. You definitely have to have trust. Producers and Directors get scared of that amount of darkness. I always keep reference images on my phone to show them just in case.
Here are some additional images and BTS screens.

A rough clip of some pick up shoots. We haven't color graded, stabilized or fine tuned the edit. This is literally something I threw together to see how the scene feels. It's low bitrate to keep size down. The original is really clean.
I also use rolling shutter repair on most clips. It helps with motion cadence in my eyes.
The fight scene was shoot last year. Again, another rough cut.

Except for a couple drone shots, this is all NX1:

So first you select "gamma normal" in the video menu. After that close the menu. Press navigation button gown, picture wizard opens. Then you can move left and right with navigation button. When you see something like "Custom setting" there is small arrow in top of that. Then press navigation button UP and menu opens where you can set values. Finally press OK and settings are saved.

I have noticed that some are complaining about "exposure drifting". I don't have this problem, but if I set this smart range on there will be this annoying changing in exposure sometimes.
