  1. How does this end?

    1. Camera stays as it is and everyone just goes MF or just uses touch focus. This is my guess given Panasonic's statement about '95% of reported issues are user error'.

    2. Panasonic issues a fix. I would be surprised if this happens but Panasonic did leave an out with that last sentence about pledging to make improvements to the AF.

I guess he and I got the only good ones. ;)

Seriously, if only people would learn how to use these, they ARE capable of good AF. And yes, many of his clips in many of his videos with other cameras are badly out of focus...and that includes Sonys. I thought this was actually one of the better ones. Oh the irony, oh the irony. :)

On a related note, I had gotten a request from PhotoJoe for my AF settings (he had seen my videos that try to mirror Max's tests), but I got the request too late for his shootout with Max. I tried to respond on his website as he requested, but I'm not even sure it went though.

Someone posted a link to that Autofocus Fix on the last page and if you click on that video, ironically, the top comment is from Casey Neistat. I'm just guessing that he might have followed that guy's advice which was to ... once you achieve focus, switch it to MF.

Thanks webrunner, I agree. It was actually the GH5 and I was trying to duplicate, as close as I could, the terrible failures Max had doing the same shots. I really find it hard to believe the 14-140 lens has that much better AF, if any.

FWIW, the autofocus performed better on my GH4 with the 14-140mm than my 12-35mm.

Just a general question to all:  how important is AF on these cameras to you?  I mean, I truly never use it.  Why does it matter to y'all in a practical motion-picture-shooting way?  Just seriously curious about the people that find it a huge benefit.  I admit I'm a little blind in this area as I'm an old-school manual focus guy simply because my era demanded it.

If you're shooting solo or flying on a gimbal, autofocus is very useful
