  1. I am facing the same issue. We shot a music video, but the shutter speed was badly set. Phil Blooms tutorial helped me a lot:

However, this technique creates blur, so I have to replace each clip with an AE composition, mask around the subjects, duplicate the wrong areas and push it by a frame. Not perfect, but you can see the difference.

  2. The lens is very lightweight, weights around 130g. This is a single focus lens, which means you only have to focus your taking lens! If filming to a 16:9 sensor, your final aspect ratio will be 2.35:1.

The rear thread is 52mm, you can use step up/down rings to attach it to your taking lens. This is one of the widest anamorphic lens, you can use it from 35mm.

The lens also have it's downsides, for example chromatic aberration is present (like on all 1.33x lenses). Please know what you're buying and do your research. No returns accepted.

Shipping from the EU via EMS and tracking. PayPal accepted.

    Price 550 eur + shipping

  3. i switched from FCPX to Premiere one and a half year ago, and it was the greatest thing in my video career. I loved FCPX's interface, but after the first week of heavy premiere usage, there's no way I would go back. But it's absolutely subjective, if you find FCPX to fit your needs, go for it.

In my perspective, premiere is better because it supports more formats, I love the built in grading tools and the integrations of other adobe products, i also cut more efficiently with the custom workspaces.

This doesn't mean FCPX isn't good, so choose the SW that'll fit you and your needs.

Surprisingly good, yeah. Not the best build quality, won't last, but while it does it's surprisingly good.

Thanks for your reply! Have you tried it or what experience do you have with it?

It's the same price range as a FOTGA DP3000 so I'm not sure with which one should I go. Your opinions are now very welcome! Thank you!

  5. Hey Folks!

My 1.5x baby moller is for sale. It is the focus through version (you only focus your taking lens!), and has a custom built housing and comes with a 0.5 diopter. Some specs:

    Rear thread: 55mm
    Front thread: 67mm
Mininmal focus distance without diopter: 2m
Minimal focus distance with diopter: from 0,9m to 2.2m
Without vignette from: 28mm (MFT), 50mm (APSC), it works on fullframe as well, but I did not test the min. focal length
    Condition: SUPERB!
    Shipping from: European Union

Please check out the attached pictures. I also grabbed some snapshots from my latest video (my focus pulling was not the best...). It was shot with the Lumix GH4, Cinelike D profile + Rec 709 LUT in the post, Mitakon lens turbo, Pentax 50mm & Canon 85mm f1.8 mostly set to F4.0 + the moller & UV filter.

In my opinion it is an awesome lens which gives you 2.66:1 as a final result. As you can see it is pretty sharp, some say it's sharp from F1.4, but i found it soft for my taste, and it is also hard to pull focus when wide open. It is a run & gun lens, small, handy and lightweight.

I'm willing to ship the lens worldwide but please note that you are responsible for customs, taxes and other charges.

The price is not set yet, if you are interested, please contact me with your offer! Thank you!

This is 50mm on an a7s for 4:3 coverage, a little bit of zoom for vignette but it's plenty wide. 19mm S35 Horizontal FOV.

Sorry for my dumbness, but I don't exactly understand you. You said, that you cropped from 3.55:1, so you must had shoot on 16:9 mode. I'm not even sure if you can shoot in 4:3 mode with the A7S.

    Your question was:

    Quote

Anybody get total FF coverage at 50mm?

Nobody gets FF coverd with 2x anamorphic lens with 50mm, because it'll vignette. Doesn't matter if you shoot on 16:9 or 4:3.

This is the widest I've been able to get yet. Any other single focus experience with wide 2x? Anybody get total FF coverage at 50mm?

So, you cropped the image from 3.66:1 to 2.36:1 because of the vignette?

I have the Bolex Moller 8/19/1.5 and use it with a Rectilux and it’s very sharp indeed. Particularly if I add on a Tokina Achromat 0.4, and good lighting. Hair on the nose sharp. Focus wise, it's very good although I cannot use a follow focus with the Rectilux because the whole focus ring moves in and out as you pull focus.

Before I had the Rectilux, I actually didn't pull focus. What I did was set my focal point and stay there until it was time for a new shot, using hand-held and moving the camera back and forth (slowly) to readjust focus. Run n gun. The $300 MustHD monitor is good because it’s cheap and you can record and play back at the 1.5 aspect ratio of the Bolex. Very cool. Now all I need is a project to shoot!

Looks like you found your way :) Here are some shots, testing the bolex with different apertures:

Please note that a Lens Turbo Adapter was mounted so x0.72 the aperture value as well.

The focus through bolex is great for run and gun, but you have to stop down the aperture at least to f4. But I have to make more tests, a festival is coming up in the next month, will see how it can handle those conditions.

Honestly, framing and desqueezing the image doesn't really bothers me, i can still frame the stretched image, but judging the focus from a 3' inch screen without proper peaking can ruin a lot of shots. Do you have any experience with attachable Viewfinders? I mainly shoot with shoulder rig and a slider, so it could be a reasonable investment, I'm just not sure if it will magnify my LCD in the way I imagine, if yes, that can solve my issue.

Thanks for your comments guys! Happy shooting!

Get yourself a single-focus unit (Rectilux or Rangefinder), and a monitor that can de-squeeze the image. I personally stick to f4 and think it almost always looks fantastic.

    Hey Caleb,

I've got the focusthrough version of the baby moller, so I only have to focus my taking lens. Focus Pulling become very unusual with anamorphic since the peaking is not reliable and the focus distances are very short.

  10. Dear fellow forumers,

I would love to hear your opinions and techniques, how do you nail your focus with anamorphic lens. I'm shooting with GH4, and bought recentily a Bolex 1.5x anamorphot lens, since that I have experienced several issues and yet, I'm not sure with which device should I pull focus.

    The issues I have found:

#1 PEAKING - Because of the baby mollers smaller size, there isn't coming through too much light, so the peaking isn't working very well. Same with autofocus (didn't tried yet, waiting for a native lens).

#2 FOCUS DISTANCE - Without a diopter, you can focus from 1,5-2m to infinity. The vintage lenses have nice, long focus barrel, but the distance between 2m and infinity is very small. Pulling focus without a proper follow focus or other device is a mess.

#3 APERTURE - Some say, bolex is great when wide open. Personally, I found it too soft. The anamorphic lens completely changes the behaviour of your taking lens.

How do you pull focus? What device are you using (i was thinking about purchasing a movofilms FF or aputures new DEC). Also what is the fastest aperture you use on set? Thanks!

    Cheers!
    Alex

not to start a new topic...which is the best non metabones speedbooster nowadays?

I'm using Zhongy's Lens Turbo. The edges might be slightly softer than with the Metabones SB, but isn't really noticable, and for the 150 USD price, I'm absolutely fine with that.

An interesting alternative will be APUTUREs new DEC adapter for around 450 bucks.

    Hi guys!

finally i´ve  decided to wait until de gh5 or the A7 mark 3 and see what´s better, or then (when the gh5 going to come out)), buy a new cheap gh4

    Thanks!!

This was mine dilemma as well, but I ended up with GH4, because I really needed a better camera performance for a project than my t3i's. We'll see what the GH5 can do, but to be honest, the GH4 performance is solid, the 100/200mbit codec is great, the 4K's nice, anamorphic shooting is now a thing, the battery last long enough and there is no overheating. Yep, there are downsides as well, but you'll always have to sacrifice some specs. So far, so good, I'm hyped for the GH5, but I'm really fine with the GH4's performance.

so I found a good deal on a gently used 1.33 anamorphot setup.   I figure I got into it cheap enough I should be able to flip it if I don't dig it.  It should be here Wednesday, I will spend next weekend getting aquainted and testing it out. I will post some footage once I get it sorted out.

Thanks everyone for all of your help.

    Great! Ebay?
