Digitgio reacted to wolf33d in My Canon EOS R5 recording 8K video 50 minutes straight
Because as an hybrid photo/video shooter in wild/extreme sport environment, it’s the best tool (would be) for the job. It’s an extreme frustration to have to go through what Canon is doing right now, but I would shoot myself hard in the foot if I would use something else should they fix the issue.

However I have done my part. Since the 5D3 I stopped shooting Canon and never gave them a cent because of their crippling. I have a dozen people around me who listen to my camera/tech advice (mostly for beginner camera stuff) over the last few years. I all made them buy Nikon for photography and Sony for video.

Now for me the R5 is a million step above anything else just because it combines FF + no crop + 4K120 + 10 bit + best ergonomics + 45mpx + best colors + best AF + best in class IBIS. The AF on Panasonic is not usable for me, the Sony you have to carry 2 cameras to have both still and video which I cannot do, and so on.
So I am ready to give again Canon my money, if they fix it of course. It sucks what they do, but it would suck more to use anything else. In the end, what matters most is if someone correct is fault or not. I will not forgive them, but I’ll buy the R5 if that software limitation goes away.

Let’s be realistic though, I am afraid all they will give us is 50% more recording time and 50% faster recovery or some BS like that. I hope I am wrong.

Not need an Alexa this one won't replace for sure : ) I am mostly seeing it as the perfect hybrid tool now. I wouldn't replace the Blackmagic ones used on set, of course. But you will also be in trouble if you go nowadays to a production with just a single one or even without more than a couple of camera units as part of your Plan B, as well : -)

Indeed. This is not the cinema camera per se. Just a new tool I see a pretty neat usage as quite handy hybrid swiss-knife for a lonely shooter without needing for long takes.

Why would you shoot on set with a Canon R5 if you know that the camera needs to be on always on? If you have budget for a studio, crew and talent, you sure have enough money to rent a better camera for the job.

Very interesting camera for the price. Hope for a low rolling shutter. Choice of PQ for HDR is particular versus Sony with HLG.
For sure video codec are not pro level but in may point of view enough compared to the price and the destination of the camera.
I suppose that video codecs are one of the main strategy in Canon to differentiate between C and R series.

Is it confirmed the sensor used ? Is it really the Sony IMX 294 ? Nothing wrong on it but Sony sell it as Surveillance sensor.
I think that Blackmagic has to manage the price of the camera, and price is very good. That sensor has some issue
on HDRmode ( quad bayer encoding) with moving subject, some little blending. I'm very curious to take a look at the quality of the picture and I hope that  Andrew will have one to test very soon. Another question, nobody knows in Still mode which size of pict is saved ?

Head Andrew, what's happening you ? You are very hungry now, I suppose because the GH5 fight...
Please don't give up,your article are usually very interesting and also technically correct, continue on that way.
I found always your test very useful, not supported of charts test and other things... But still very good test.

Digitgio got a reaction from Nikkor in The 4K Fuji X-T2 is here
I just have a quick test on the XT2 at Fujifilm square in Tokyo. No FLog menu at the moment, cameras on display are with beta firmware, asking for it they reply that Flog seems only for HDMI output, but is not confirmed. Rolling shutter on 4K 30p is present and seems like on a6300, on 1080p is very low but I see and compared it only on viewfinder and Lcd. Asking to connect camera at a display they reply "is not possible" :). Overall impression is good, and in my opinion the camera is not to be compared to the a6300 (very different construction, rock solid and better viewfinder and ergonomics) but at the a7 series...Friendly employees (and very patient at all my questions) as usual at Fujifilm square

I'm seriously thinking to buy it but not to work, to use it on my spare time and I think it will be enough. For real work I think at least an A7SII or FS5 is necessary . At that price (A6300) I don't ask more. I want to really know about the overheating... that issue bother me.
