I wouldn't worry too much about the stills capabilities of a camera (unless you're a very serious professional photographer, in which case you've likely already got firm opinions on what camera to get and not asking here), because long long ago cameras already reached the level of "good enough" for professional work for the vast majority of professional photographers. While it has taken much longer for hybrid cameras to reach that point of "good enough". (I'd say that's only just now happening, now that many are getting 10bit internal)
Thus even if you got a very video focused camera (such as a P4K / C70 / FX30 / etc) then you could just for cheap buy a stills camera to use alongside your main camera that's for video.
As in my opinion even an old Nikon D700 (only a couple of hundred dollars secondhand!) is "good enough" for the majority of "professional photographers" out there. (unless you're more into say the sports photography niche, in which case a cheap Nikon D500 still is one of the very best you could go for)
So if you for instance decided to go with a P4K as your filming camera, you could grab a Panasonic G7 to complement it for stills. Or a cheap Sony a6000 to complement the FX30 for stills. (I disagree about sensor size when it comes to shooting though, and people should just choose the right lens for the job. But anyway... you could say get a cheap cheap Sony a7mk1 for your stills, to use alongside an FX30? Or go nuts with resolution and get a Sony a7Rmk1? There is one on eBay at the moment for US$500)

..if you need AF though Panasonic is probably the worst system of the bunch and a huge downgrade from Canon.
Image quality means nothing if you can't hold focus.
Best bang for buck is probably XH2 right now. 45MP stills. 8K, 10-bit, ProRes. Phase-detect AF with eye detect. Film simulations.
FX30 also super solid for run & gun. Oversampled 4K. AF on par with Canon. 4K120p. 10-bit. LUT support. Top handle with XLRs.
But yeah, switching systems is expensive so if you own a lot of lenses probably better to wait for suitable model than switch.
APS-C / Super35 seems to be where it's at right now as far as bang for buck in the $2K bracket.

Another vote for the Panny S5.
I prefer my S1R as a pure stills machine and for dedicated video work, my S1H, but unless I needed:
    A: Stellar tracking video AF
B: Err, that’s it really, anything else is nitpicking…
I doubt there is a better option sub 2k and a mint used one could be picked up sub 1.5k.
    Or an XH2.

If you need professional standard stills, then yes, I'd go with a Panasonic S5. (or the S1 or GH6 also from Panasonic)
But if the stills is more casual / personal usage, and not a key requirement, then I'd definitely be going with the new Sony FX30 instead at that price point.
The various Fujifilm options also get a worthy shout out. (X-T4 or the more expensive X-H2S)

There is a another rumour circulating of an R8..similar specs but a simpler 30mpxls sensor..
It seems that there are two cameras coming soon, an R replacement (it could be the R8 with the R sensor but various impovements all around) and an R6mkII with the sensor as the biggest - and very welcomed - difference, but probably other faster and/or more modern internals that will make it a better camera altogether.
Price is very important also, if they could keep it close to R6's money that would make it a hit camera.
To be completely honest, I was expecting the R6mkII to move to RF full frame, so I am quite excited about this rumor. Of course the devil is in the details and those details could make or brake this release. It could be only the sensor and maybe the processor, but also a myriad other little impovements; or not!
As of our friend @tomastancredi, it would be a pity that you are going to miss the R replacement just for a month or so..
If you want something fast and with amazing battery life, the R7 is a very honest choice and for a very good price.

Best value is probably the S5. You might even find one of Panasonic’s when it comes with a couple of lenses and cash back. Weak points are video AF and EVF

    Lets not forget XH2S & FX30.
A7IV has similar cons to R6: poor rolling shutter & overheating issues. not great for run & gun.

I would go with either the Panasonic S1, Sony a7 IV, Fuji X-H2 or a GH6
Look at the pros and cons of each of those and see which one you prefer
S1 has had such big firmware updates it's almost a Mark II, and has the best image for the price (in V-LOG) and is full frame. But lacking in the AF department and is quite a brick.
a7 IV is a very capable all-rounder. No major weak areas. Might be a bit over your $2K budget though.
X-H2 has the best codec, and is 8K. Excellent AF. It isn't full frame and may necessitate new lenses.
GH6 is a good bargain and if you don't mind the crop sensor, has the biggest feature set for video of nearly any camera on the market. Endless creativity and options.

@tomastancrediyou ask about the camera, but I ask about your lenses. We all know here that the most important aspect on a system is the lenses we own.
Are you going to sell your lenses and move to Panasonic?

    I heard a rumor that..
Canon R6 Mark II Leaked Specification
    24mp Full-frame CMOS Sensor
Dual Pixel RAW / RAW burst
    Dual Pixel CMOS AF
    In-body stabilization
    Digital Tele-Converter
    12fps Mechanical
    Hybrid Auto
    4K 30p (No Crop)
    4K 60p (Cropped. The EOS R6 is a 1.1x crop)
    Canon Log 3/HDR PQ
    Cloud RAW processing
    RF/RF-S Lenses
    SD/SDHC dual card slot
Not much change in the form factor over the original EOS R6
The Canon R6 will use the same stacked sensor we have seen in the Canon R3 camera. The camera announcement is expected first half of 2023.

It is funny to watch channels reviewing gear, when their main use case is making the review videos. I think Linus Tech Tips is the best example, where they have entire videos about building workstations to edit their videos about building workstations. Credit where it's due, it's not a bad business model, and in Linus' case they're open and honest about it.
Actually I'd say the same about Gerald, who has said in a few videos that his primary use for his gear is sit-down corporate interviews. He's said in a couple places that he's not a "cinematographer" or a "vlogger." I think the guy does a good job presenting information. If I want basic information about a camera or mic he's reviewed, I usually watch his video. I wouldn't try to get any artistic ideas from his videos.
I think that's where you should position yourself with your channel, Andrew. I've always liked/agreed with your opinions on color. I think you're at your best when talking about artistic use cases and reviewing gear from that perspective. We don't need you to compete with tech gear reviewers, just talk about what you're good at.

Sticking with the GH5, G85 and GX85 for at least another year, probably longer. After 2020 I'm just not in a position to "upgrade" without going into debt, and honestly there aren't any cameras out there that really excite me for my work. Sony did really well with the A7siii but I'd need to either buy 2 or 3 because Sony doesn't really have much in terms of a solid b-cam. Their APS-C cams just don't have good enough stabilization and the rolling shutter is really bad for sports.
I do expect I'll be jumping back into the Mac world given the performance people are getting with the new ones. That'll probably be the only big thing I'm going to spend money on this year or next. Just gonna see what they have in store.

I wonder if lack of a need for upgrade is a factor. A 5D Mkiii from 8 years ago is obviously much better than any cell phone, but also pretty comparable to a DSLR bought yesterday. I think cameras have been good enough for a while. This is obviously the case for video cameras...
My partner takes photos for her business with a Canon 60d and an iPad. That camera is 10 years old and still more than enough for most quick product photography shots for the web... Why would she upgrade?
The film market is pretty decent right now. Tons of people shoot film, but all of those cameras already exist. There are more than enough to supply to demand, unless you want a particular point and shoot, Leica, certain medium format cameras etc.

tomastancredi reacted to Video Hummus in Fuji GFX 100 loses to Huawei P40 Pro Plus smartphone for dynamic range
Isn’t the smartphone just doing auto-magic photo bracketing? Which could be done manually with the GFX 100, albeit with a lot more work. Seems kinda unfair to the GFX 100 merely on a technical standpoint (not on a user experience standpoint). Which means the smartphone took more than one photo, perhaps up to 5, compared to the GFX 100’s 1 RAW.
It’s surprising to me camera companies have not embraced this “in camera” processing more, even for special “auto” modes where the user just wants the camera to do everything.
Regardless, this is a good example of why camera sales have plummeted in the consumer market. It all comes down to the user experience and the smartphone, in this case, clearly provided the better user experience. If you were to repeat the test and bracket 3 RAW photos from the GFX 100 the results would be superior.

A nice side project... Mobile camera tests. It's good fun.
    I have so far tested:
Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro Xiaomi Mi 10 Huawei P40 Pro Plus Huawei P40 Pro Huawei Mate 30 Pro Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra iPhone 11 Pro Max Samsung Note 10+ Oppo Find X2 Pro (OnePlus 8 Pro is very similar) I'll keep it short. The big blog post is coming soon.
But the DXOMark chart is wrong 🙂
    Here's my EOSHDMark ranking:
Huawei P40 Pro - 150 Pros: Superbly useful 5x zoom, overall camera quality, nice colours, price. Cons: IR pollution, screen size could be a bit bigger Huawei P40 Pro Plus - 150 Pros: Low light, overall camera quality, nice build. Cons: Lacks 5x module from P40 Pro, 10x module too long for regular use Huawei Mate 30 Pro - 140 Pros: Main camera again is superb like P40 Pro and 3x telephoto not bad either. Nice Samsung Note-like form factor & screen. Cons: Lacks 5x periscope camera of P40 Pro and overall zoom quality Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro - 135 Pros: 8K video and very good main camera, superb screen. Cons: Colours can be a bit clinical, a bit flat, 5x zoom quality is lacking compared to Huawei, back feels & looks cheap Xiaomi Mi 10 - 130 Pros: 8k video and very good main camera, superb screen. Cons: No 3x or 5x zoom modules and back feels / looks cheap. Oppo Find X2 Pro - 110 Pros: A good all-rounder, decent 5x zoom, market leading 3K 120hz screen. Cons: Poor tonality. Oversharpened camera output, beaten by Huawei. Poor choice of back material / weird finish iPhone 11 Pro Max - 105 Pros: Good dynamic range, natural colours, iOS, great build. Cons: Camera hardware dated compared to Chinese competition, poor zoom capabilities. Samsung Note 10+ - 100 Pros: Nice colours and decent main sensor, great form factor. Cons: Dated camera hardware especially compared to Huawei. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra - 95 Pros: Great in-hand feel and wonderful screen. Cons: Camera processing feels unfinished and is a complete let down, especially in low light. Mediocre 5x periscope zoom is soft. Main camera is muddy in low light and feels overly binned & over sharpened in good light. Xiaomi Mi 10 soundly beats it with same sensor! Expensive too! Google Play Store and Google Services installed OK on the Huawei phones.
    Couple of surprises:
P40 Pro 5x optical zoom is the best on the market. Unfortunately they went crazy with the Plus version which is the flagship ($1000+) handset. That has a 10x optical zoom (240mm). It's way less useful than the 5x (135mm). Also the Plus version has a 3x optical zoom camera module, but I'll take the 5x over that any day. The other area of surprise is with colour - the Leica profiles on the standard P40 Pro are less "consumer". Much warmer and more day-glo on the Plus. One area where the Plus does win though is with build quality and low light. Also, there's fewer colour casts and less IR pollution indoors with black fabric, which come out almost purple on the P40 Pro.
Also the P40 Pro has quite a cool and quite a green cast sometimes, especially in artificial light - and some will prefer the P40 Pro PLUS here. I find the P40 Pro quite artistic and moody looking though.
One thing is for sure - 10x optical zoom lens on a smartphone is quite unique on the market - and when you have a use for it, it does deliver the goods for sure.
Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro / Mi 10 / Samsung S20 Ultra share similar 108MP sensor. Xiaomi THRAAAASHES the Samsung. They just get much more out of it. Especially in low light, where the S20 Ultra is a mushy mess. Even the old Note 10+ has a preferable look in most circumstances to the S20 Ultra, and to make things worse the 5x optical zoom (actually more like 4x glass) is mediocre at best and significantly softer than the P40 Pro. Also the 8K video on the S20 Ultra is heavily cropped and looks dreadful, whereas the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro don't have a crop and again get much more out of the sensor in the processing. It is not 8K that pixel peeps well but it does make for very good 4K, even in low light. Downsides to the M10 Pro... the 5x zoom is pretty mediocre and noisy... and the Mi 10 makes do with nothing beyond 2x. Great screens though.
Oppo Find X2 Pro puts in a good effort but it just looks brittle and thin compared to the Huawei on the main wide angle sensor. The ultra wide isn't as good either. The 5x is pretty good - nice and detailed, but dynamic range and colour lag behind the P40 Pro 5x. Indeed, the main sensor output fairs better for dynamic range but not for colour and it is a very over-sharpened output. I like the Oppo implementation of Android. Shame about the boring design of the back and the odd texture of the glass (has a kind of scratchy feel). Absolutely amazing 3K screen running at 120hz but not as bright in direct sunlight as the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro and Mi 10 standard.
There's a bit of a gap from the Huawei phones to everything else in my view. Especially with regards to tonality and the large 1" sensor look. Also the lenses are less flare prone when not absolutely grease free, compared to the Mi 10 Pro which is particularly badly effected and the Find X2 Pro. The iPhone 11 Pro Max fairs best for flare.
The Apple device still has great dynamic range and the most natural looking colour - almost a flat look, good for filters. However it is distinctly backward from the Huawei and has that 'small sensor look' to it. The zoom is a complete non-starter against the 5x folded optics in the Huawei.
I hope this helps anybody looking at the top 10 of DXOMark.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra I have not yet tried but output looks a bit brittle and thin compared to the Huawei P40 Pro to me, judging by their own samples on the site. The zoom looks good. It shoots 8k. I shall have to try it.
Oh and the Mate 30 Pro is my choice for a more "Note 10" handling style of Huawei phone - The main sensor is just as good as the P40 Pro in my opinion. Colours seem a bit closer to the Plus than the standard P40 Pro. Sometimes too consumer. But sometimes better with improved WB and less casts in low light. The 3x zoom is good in daylight. Less so in low light. It doesn't have the wow factor of the 5x on the P40 Pro though.
I really wish Huawei had kept the 5x zoom on the P40 Pro Plus with the lovely build quality and ceramic back. I really wish they'd corrected the colour casts and IR pollution without throwing out the "Leica look". It can apply HDR too strongly sometimes even in the Leica profiles. The P40 Pro standard model does this too sometimes but not as often. Maybe they couldn't fit the 10x module and 5x into one phone!!
DXOMark's numbers are too close together and don't reflect the differences in main sensor image quality well enough either:
P40 Pro - 128 X2 Pro - 124 Mi 10 Pro - 124 Mate 30 Pro - 123 S20 Ultra - 122 The biggest problem is that S20 Ultra score - there is no way it is even in the same league as the others, especially in low light. Mate 30 Pro is significantly more than 1 point better than the S20 Ultra.
Also there should be more than 4 points between the P40 Pro and the Oppo Find X2 Pro.

only the x-t3 internally, right? And both the x-t30 and m6mkii through external recorder. I played yesterday with some m6mkii files in clog3 and it does have much more room than I expected. Maybe even more than on c100's Clog, but the 4k is softer than c100's HD. So it's out of my list.
Appreciate your thoughts...Indeed.. Ideally I' would shoot in hd, but on my budget I was ready to compromise disk space and mix footage on a hd timeline. I have matched a "hacked" gx85 4k with the c100. Quite ok, not completelly satisfactory, but I had to shoot in 4k for the highbitrates. I am not sure how the x-t3 and x-t30 differ on hd, since both are 200mbs, but the x-t3 can shoot in 10 bit. Maybe as big of a difference as on 4k, where x-t3 goes up to 400mbits. I would not use it for next year, but nice to have for later.

I just re-read your posts and it doesn't sound like you're clear on if you're shooting 4K or 1080.  You say you want to match the c100 and want to have small file sizes as possible.  File size is vastly smaller with 1080, and the c100 has good (but not great) 1080 because it downsamples the 1080 from 4K in-camera.
I think you should consider getting a camera that shoots downsampled 1080, maybe in 10-bit, so that you can grade the image heavily to match it to the C100 CS.  If you're not trying to buy a camera that shoots 4K then a lot of older (but still great) cameras are available and should be cheaper too.
The C100 has excellent 1080 for its ~25Mbps codec, but if you get a 1080 camera that shoots at 10-bit then you should be able to get a much higher bitrate and have much more flexibility in the image too, which will be useful if you have high DR from uncontrolled lighting and you can push and pull highlights and shadows in post easily with the 10-bit.
