I agree.  Having the tech just work and get out of the way is the ultimate situation.  We're making art after all, the last thing we need is to be trying to also deal with the technical stuff at the same time.
I really think that BM are playing the long game and have set their vision to be really high and are making bold steps to get there.
    Some fun facts (via wikipedia?
DaVinci had been making colour correction systems since 1985 Resolve was released in 2004 BM bought DaVinci in 2009, at which time Resolve was selling with dedicated hardware solutions for $200k-800k 2010 they released a software-only version for $995 and the hardware version dropped to $30k 2011 they introduced a free version 2013 version 10 introduced video editing 2014 version 11 introduced audio mixing to complete it as a stand-alone NLE 2016 BM buys Fairlight and version 14 includes an integrated version of it 2018 version 15 includes a version of Fusion That is a pretty spectacular timeline.  In a decade it went from being $200-800K with hardware and colour only to having free, software-only versions available, and integrating world-leading colour with editing, audio, and VFX functionality.
Hardware is obviously more difficult to make those kinds of advances on, but the original BMPCC and now P4K kind of fit that description.  I remember Elon Musk talking about reducing the cost of things by 90% and that idea of radical change seems to also be occurring here.  Other vendors don't seem to really be dancing to the same tune.

There must've been something seriously wrong with your copy of the URSA, unless it was the 4K version (in which case sure it was a piece of shit). I can even underexpose pretty heavily on the 4.6K (Running on old pre-manual-blackmapping firmware) without issues with noise. No FPN at 800ISO, you get some fine grain on extreme underexposure but even that's fixable with a little NR. This is the first time I've heard there's noise on the midtones.
The 120fps windowed mode is pretty lackluster on the OG 4,6K though, and you really need to ETTR to get a clean image because any noise gets heavily pronounced by the crop.

Oh wait I thought the original had 4k 120fps, my bad. That is a good upgrade then. Maybe the OG ursa mini 4.6k will get down to $2500 used

    Well, here we are then.

The 3C app is now officially available from the Play store for Android devices.
3C enables you to remotely control and monitor the primary functions of your Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K from an Android device using Bluetooth LE.

Using 3C, you have access to the following camera functionality.

    Aperture
    ISO
    Shutter Angle
    White Balance
    Record
Focus & Zoom (with compatible lenses)

With 3C you can also store your own custom setting sets for exposure, focus and zoom parameters for later recall as well as automate transitions between stored focus points*.

For ease of use, 3C uses a single screen touch interface to control all of this functionality and avoid the need for you to have to activate any sub-menus to change settings.

3C has a scalable user interface to enable you to remove focus and zoom controls from the screen should you not require them and wish to run the app on a small screen Android device.
In addition, 3C can also be used as an interface hub to enable control of the camera from compatible Bluetooth gamepads.
You can purchase 3C from the Play store here http://tinyurl.com/y5eyujeu
You can read the PDF user guide here User Guide For 3C v1.1 by CDA-TEK Ltd .pdf
You can use gamepads from iPega and 8Bitdo that support keyboard mode and examples of these are https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KA6OR7Q (iPega) and https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B017PAX036 (8Bitdo).
3C will also support wireless live viewing from the camera in a future update with additional hardware.

Welcome to the Resolve users club!  Damn, maybe that should be a real club, that's a t-shirt I might actually wear.
I've been piling all the Resolve info I could find into this thread here so have a read at your leisure..
Changing colour space in Resolve is a bit confusing - not because it's difficult to do but more because there are lots of different ways to do it.
The workflow I'd recommend for you is very similar to your existing one:
Node 1: Adjustment layer (if you want to change WB or whatever) Node 2: Colour Space Transform OFX plugin to change from V-log to rec.709 colour and gamma Node 3 onwards: grading as you normally would The Colour Space Transform (CST) plugin isn't a LUT, it's better than that because it preserves any clipped highlights/shadows, and has some nice options for handling extremes.  More info here:
Be aware that you can change colour space in many different places, but that using the CST plugin is the most flexible and AFAIK has all the benefits of the other methods as well as the extra flexibility.

shout out to @Mattias Burling for covering the new Kipon Elegant prime lens series for RF & Z mounts:
How does the lens perform for video? is the aperture ring smooth? is there any contact info recognized by EOS R (F-stop, focal range, metering etc)?
Also is that an RF to Minolta speedbooster at 00:30 ?! How close do you get to FF in 4K when using it? What's the optical quality like?

AlexTrinder96 reacted to kye in Best way to shoot a lens comparison?
My last lenses are due to arrive, and before I shoot 10 million test images I want to make sure the test is good.
I will be shooting lenses with a wide range of different focal lengths, maximum apertures, and minimum focal distances.  I've done a test mini-shootout that looked like this:
    ~50mm on SB F2.8:

    ~40mm no SB F2.8:

    ~20mm no SB F2.8:

I tried to keep the same framing so had to move the camera back with the longer focal-lengths.  Unfortunately, because of this the DOF is different on all lenses even though those test shots are all F2.8.
Do I make a test scene where the framing is similar in each lens so that you can compare resolution (ie, the texture or reference charts) and accept that the DOF will be different, or do I keep the DOF the same but vary the framing, meaning that you can't compare resolution etc.
I'll be testing lenses that range from 8mm F4 to 200mm F4 and with apertures as much as 0.95.
In terms of what I want to shoot in the test scene, here are my notes:
Shooting stills as they're higher resolution than video and are RAW so it eliminates most of the colour science and processing from the camera Controlled lighting for consistency throughout test Different colour temperature lights for a bit of colour (probably tungsten key with daylight WB and other lights for colour) Things in focus in the middle and at the edges of the frame (to test sharpness) Focus target in the centre Measuring tape running front-to-back to look at focus transitions Colour checker of some kind (I'll use my DIY one, not calibrated but good for comparisons) Fully manual settings and identical WB between shots to show colour differences Some bokeh with things out of focus and probably also an LED light in the background for bokeh ball Test every lens at every f-stop (it will be a huge number of images, but good for comparison and in my mini-test I didn't do that and I wished I had) I'll also shoot every lens at an identical set of settings to determine relative brightness Thoughts?
How should I frame and is there anything missing?  (No, I don't have easy access to a model, plus I find their non-identical facial expressions taint the interpretation of images )
