  1. Cheapest/smallest thing that comes to mind is Nikkor Pancake lens 50mm 1.8 (I know not that fast). It's 50€ The other 550€ you can give to charity or buy a speedbooster or you are half way to a BM..........CC4k ;)

  2. I only have a steady cam thingy but its ok without AF if you know what you are doing. Obiously shallow dof is only possible if distance stays the same....otherwise hyperfocal distance shout be fairly easy with a mft camera if I can do it with full frame....

What do you think about the BMPCC4K against the A7III? ($ 700 more)

For me it feels like the Pocket is a cinema camera, basically fully manual also for lenses etc. I feel like if I pay 2 grand for an A73 I would then be stuck with a "system" and need to invest in their lens setup, same with GH5. The "system" obviously brings big advantages, the drag is I would instantly feel like I have to now get a 20, 28,..., 50, 85, 300mm plus maybe a 24-120 (if something like it exists. The P2 is just a "sensor" with all it's limitations. It doesn't demand anything but a fairly "professional" approach to shooting stuff.

Haha! I couldn't live with so much stress, you are obviously a testosterone-junky doing all that behind your wife's back!

They don't call him @Anaconda_ for no reason.

  4. @mercer just creeped me out with the thought that the price might increase after the initial pre-order launch.  I feel like the price is absolutley right, like no second thought right. If it would be more around or up to 2 grand I be much more reluctant to actually get it or lets say suddenly I might start consider other options and possibilities...

mmm.... BM says "The carbon composite material consists of a high strength polymer that’s reinforced with carbon fibers".

Which looks like thermoplastics with tiny carbon fibers REINFORCING IT, (as they do with GLASS FIBERS) not like CARBON FIBERS layers filled with resins as it done with proper commonly known as "carbon fiber"...2 different materials AND process (injection moulding vs laying by hand layers of carbon fibers cloth into moulds).

FACT!!! Having a hand-layed-carbon-fibre-textile-vac-bagged body would strech their (and our) budget slightly

  6. I am going to make a little carbon fibre visor to sheld of the vents from eating stuff it shouldn't. I wonder why they didn't put them at the exact place but on the bottom? Afraid I might get into a crazy freak accident being scalped, safety first boys ;D

  7. Well, it would be great to get the highest possible amount of fps without windowing. No idea about the tech necessary. Didn`t the gh4 did something like 96fps (no idea about cropping)? For me it is great to slow stuff down. I have FF 60p now if my 50mm becomes 100mm it is for me a not so desireable workflow. I love to have windowed 120fps, am blown away by it rather. But I will probably shoot surfing with it, something where the added reach is also desireable, or at least where I don't have to go back and forth between cropping in.

Uhhhhh, this looks so excellent. I can't wait to horse around with LUTs

But what you held wasn't what they'll ship. The models that we get will be made with a different material, so I wouldn't judge that too quickly for now.

It is a butt ugly beast - no trophy wife material here, but hey don't judge a camera by its cover. It's the inner values innit?

  9. Puh, long thread for a family man. Been eyeing up the old pockets, BUT this release is mind blowing in several ways if you want to fiddle with thick files. Shame I am one of those random event jesters. Still for the price plus Resolve,....... F***ing hell, seems like a give away, INSANE! Hopefully one can get one before christmas while not preordering...

AF is good to have, but if you gonna shoot with that like handycam, isn't full frame and particularly D850 overkill for that style of shooting?

... The best approach is what Samsung did: optical+electronic stabilization.

Sure is overkill. For this whole random event shooting aka. runandgun etc... something like a IBIS AF machine sure is the way to go. This is what I always miss when I try to be low key but wanting to be high key in outcome. It can be done but I am to wiggly of a bugger. The d850 has optical and electronic VR if you shoot with newer lenses

Nikon 105mm F1.8 AI/S seems like a nice characterful lens. Any experience of it?

personally, and I don't shoot very expensive cinema glass, I love all the of the AIS lenses I had so far and I doubt that 105 1.4,  135 2, are dogs. Had the 180 2.8 and it was outragous although I hardly used the AIS I still want to get the AF version of that lens again to use it for fashion stuff and so on...

Ok Andrew... you convinced me. I need to test it out. I’ll add it to my list of cameras to try! Lol.

Isnt there something weird with the focus peaking if I remember correctly?

apparently focus peaking is only in HD.

  12. For me its pretty much dead. Player 90% of the times crashes when I try to change bandwith setting to play in 1080. Sometimes it does not play at all. I mean this is at their core business, playing videos, no matter for business or hobby...

  13. @Andrew Reid I would be super interested how this beast is working with old glass? I have heard a lot that high res cameras need "new" glass to make use of the resolving power but it would be great to have a kind of A-B comparison of that. Body wise  the d850 is ticking all the boxes for me but I think it is a bit of resolution overload. No idea what lenses you have that fit the F mount but if you fancy it I can let you have a play with my old 28. 2.8 AIS, 50 1.2 AI and 85 1.4 Af-d...

Why aren't Nikon testers picking up on stuff like this... Oh I forgot they are all "yes men

I think "Nikon testers" is an oxymoron. Personally I think their menu(s) are quite flawed specially when you jump in and out of Liveview. I doubt they do proper User testing sessions. It should be easy giving you a couple of monies and let you fondle it abit would increase usability by far  but who am I saying this to....
