My R5 survived the 1 hour and 45 minute 8K IPB SD FAT32 recording test! Peaking at 62C exif from the end of the 3rd run to the end of the 6th run. Will the FW update allow us to run 8K IPB for more or less than 100 minutes at a time? I will present the exif temps shortly and send the data to Horshack.

No! I have seen the teardown video, which is now also on youtube. My skills are not at that level, I think I would break a flat cable or something else. And what would I need to do in the camera? Remove the coin cell, but in the teardown video one can see that it is at the back of the mainboard, that's too difficult for me. I want a working solution without tinkering with the internals.

Whilst the hope is that Canon will fix this properly, the probe app (which we made after the temperature monitoring one) can be used to restore the majority of user preferences, not a big deal to get it to chain them into one big faux preset to send back to the camera.

I think I've found out why the video playback is blank and the there's no audio. The MP4 header has 'stsz' and 'stco' atoms that are indexes into the actual video and audio data in the mdat atom. Those atoms are used by players/NLEs to correlate time to video/audio frames. Since I copied the entire MP4 header from the "good" video those indexes will be wrong for the "bad" video and have to be rebuilt. I found an open-source tool named uncut that does this (https://github.com/ponchio/untrunc), documentation here. Built and ran it but it wasn't able to find any of the frames in the files. Will be looking into the code to see if it can be tweaked to work on these files

Have you actually used the R5 bro ? I am shooting video in normal 4k 24p through out the day with appx 50-100 photos (2-4 hours in total but not non-stop) and I still am able to shoot 4k 60 in small bursts when I need it. Your case might be different. But until now, what were you shooting 4k 50p Full frame on that now all of a sudden you find it absolutely necessary ?  Like I said, you are paying $400 more for all the video features (some useful, some not) compared to what someone would pay for an A7r1v when it first came out. Or you can wait till the price drops and firmware fixes.

You can still shoot 1080 60p on the R5 if 4k 60 is not available and no one will give a shit or know unless you crop a lot in post. 
Plenty of options ? -- Really ? Which Full frame high megapixel camera is an option again ? -- that has nearly the same usable video features as the R5 and amazing Auto Focus ? NONE. If there was one, I'd be drooling over it.

I also hope Canon fixes this to be honest. Not that I can't make amazing stuff with the camera in it's current state and limitations, but not having the limitations would be great nonetheless. It's more about ethical business practices for me than mere specs that I don't care too much about (8k, 4k 120p). And that's the reason I am in support of Andrew because at the end of the day that's what he is trying to push for - Businesses shouldn't get away for malpractices.

This is not a defective product, just a crippled one, let's call it the right terminology.

Apart from the artificial crippling, the consensus is the camera doesn’t actually overheat? What voodoo is in there that the S1H doesn’t have? (which needs a huge vent). 
Thing is, if Canon didn’t do this I would of been a customer of 2 bodies and a bunch of RF lenses. Plus I would of likely picked up an RF cine cam in the future. Just doesn’t make much business sense to me. 

What extent this can work out as mod letting the camera flow as a regular capture device as any other camera, now?

"Math Class" on Baidu now has extensive infrared thermometer readings of the camera's mainboard with the back off, showing they correspond closely to the temperature reported in the EXIF data and don't rise above 64C. His next finding is that if you remove the internal battery it resets the so-called overheating limitations. So who is telling the truth now, Canon?

Here is another way to look at it:
How much was the A7R1V when it came out ?  - $3499 (has basic 8 bit 420 4k 24p, 1080 24/60/120 fps)
How much was the 5d MK1V when it came out ? - $3499 (Cropped 4k 24p, 1080P 24/60 fps)
How much is the R5 currently ? $3899 - So for the extra $400, the R5 does almost everything of what the cameras above do, PLUS you are getting - 4k 10 bit 422 internally , Unlimited 4k 24p 5.1 oversampled in super 35 mode, Unlimited normal 4k 24p which looks amazing once sharpened,  Unlimited 4k 24p HQ over the atomos, minimum, restricted and somewhat useless -  8k, 4k HQ, 4k60/120Fps once the camera overheats. Decide if extra $400 is worth it. But as it is, it is still the only High MP camera that can do all of this and has no real competition. 
Before you compare it to the A7siii, that is a video camera and not a photo camera. Yes 12 mp is fine for photos and online content, but so is 1080p video.... 🤷🏽‍♂️
I agree the marketing of this camera was a total FAIL. And some of the conspiracy theories pointing to canons practices are surely questionable.  I appreciate what Andrew is doing because at the end of the day it is still a win win for us if Canon does something about the overheating.
