This is worrying.  I had hoped the R6 would perform better than the R5 for coping with overheating.  I would be reluctant to use this camera even for short periods if its as bad as this review suggests.

If this account is accurate and true for the final production camera, it makes a lie of anyone who feels they can get away with using either the R5 or R6 even for short filming segments as opposed to long recordings like Weddings.

No doubt many have the R5 and R6 on preorder.  It'll be interesting to read more accounts to best judge how serious the overheating problem is.

    Agreed.

He states that he used a pre-production camera so maybe something was up with his unit ?

DPreview guy said they used a full production unit for their review.  I cant call it...

  2. I don't follow C5D's reviews very often but on this review he shot for two days or so and did not provide any specific details on modes, and settings.

Clearly he was very let down by the R6 but whats the point in this feedback if couldn't clarify his recording times, and how/when the problems occurred.

His write up on the issue below, I guess he was like Fu-K it, it overheats.

smh, why dont people test the binned mode versus the HQ mode. Overheating won't matter if the binned mode is good quality. The only issue will be in 60p and 120p, and I doubt people are shooting 30 minutes of 120p footage, and don't get me started on the degenerates that shoot long-form 60p like toneh.

Most of these youtubers are too dumb though.

    edit: spelling.

@2:29 Bryan Chen, a casual shooter who's only interested in using the R5 for family videos shows the R5 4k vs 4k HQ.  Normal 4k Looks pretty good.

Look at around 35mn they talk about the fans in the S1H and the fact that it won't overheat at all. And specifically at 38:10 they talk about Canon's assumption (without sayin' the name of course) that adding a fan make cameras more bulky. Funny.

Obviously he knows what he's talking about however the S1H with its fan is bigger than the R series cameras.

The R5 is bigger than the R already so I'm not sure they could have maintained a size similar to the R with the addition of ibis and a fan.  Guess you'd have to bite off the direction of Sigma's fp. Kudos to Sigma for that.

Darn, sick of all these new cams. Andrew, put your Fuji into the race and kick these new cams tush! ProresRAW Monster allert! @Andrew Reid

Theres not much footage out there for the GFX 100, especially with the new firmware. Would definitely like to see Andrew's sample footage.

Some great looking footage here. Not going to lie, this looks just as good as my Canon C200 videos. Colors looks amazing, dynamic range looks better than I thought it would, and its all shot handheld:

Looks good to me. He's says he didn't experience any overheating issues in 95 degrees... though he wasn't pushing any of the time limits with short clips.

He then says in next sentence that he hasn't had the chance to record for a very long time 😂

And that Canon hadn't put a recording limit on it.

    Which isn't true.

Besides it's the usual marketing video, so he ain't saying what modes, how long he recorded in 8K and 4K for, what the ambient temps were (looks fucking freezing from the location) or any other meaningful info that would have helped users to know the score.

    Typical hype piece.

Yes, I'm aware he did say that but having the camera for three days and producing something with it,
I assumed he meant that the 3 days time he had the camera wasn't long enough to speak to every situation.  That said, I get it Andrew...  you think its unusable, and unacceptable. We'll see. My post wasn't intended to change your mind.

There is such a thing called enviromental temperature, yes in the desert you will overheat quickly,  this does not mean it will overheat in a siberian winter too.

This should be tested in realworld environments to see how bad it is

Clearly environmental factors play a role... Andrew K @5:06 says that over the three days he had with the R5,  the camera did not overheat.

So yeah, another example of cutting and pasting, pretending it's his own 'inside info'.

Could be complete bullshit for all we know.

PS - on a lighter note, the GFX 100 with f/w 2.0 and 50mm F3.5 is reducing my will to buy the EOS R5 by a factor of a lot. Perfect AF, enormous epic look, and Fuji's colour science in 10bit is just... Cinema on a stick.

I search youtube, and vimeo routinely looking for GFX 100 footage, especially after 2.0. There's a few recent uploads posted by Fuji but I'm looking for non affiliate examples.
