Honestly I’m holding out a bit longer, until 2045. Surely there will be better options then.

Canon R5 is the true game charger and I m glade I got it, since after firmware update there is no overheating warming for me, and I have actually shoot 8K footage to be used on LED wall for a commercial project with it.
But most of the time is still 4k for me.

    Funny thing about this…
It was harder to shoot and edit a movie in this day; forget about the price of equipment too.
Even harder to shoot a “good” movie, forget about an “amazing” movie… with amazing characters and scenes…
But, once it was said and done… it was easy to sell… there was always a major buyer/distributor.
Fast forward to today… easy to shoot and edit, hell you can do it all on your phone… you can do it well too… it might take some time to write the script, storyboard and even find decent actors - go to a drama school and take your chances with auditions etc…. Nonetheless the price of admission is super low… again you can do it all on your phone.

However!!! You will have a hard time selling it.

Ha! Spot on! It’s the exact option I’d go for if switching today; a pair of either plus a 100s, all available used.
And may even do so over the Winter after my season has ended…
But waiting to see what L Mount does re. S1 line replacement first, mainly re. a replacement for the S1R.
In my eternal quest for the perfect hybrid set up, I have established several non-negotiables…
Has to be 3 bodies; 2 dedicated to video and 1 to stills and if the stills body has a video capability, bonus, but not a deal breaker.
The stills unit needs to be 50-100mp because I am heading back to cropping (in post plus AI software such as DXO) over bigger/longer lenses and steering away from anything that really needs a battery grip for handling.
The stills unit must have a damped shutter.
I am also moving away from something I wished to explore which was pulling stills from video. I think it would take the joy of photography away from me and make the process, well more ‘a process’.
So a pair of used XH2’s, each with something like the Tamron 17-70 would be direct replacements for my pair of S5ii’s but zero real world gain. More a sideways move…
GFX100s over S1H with battery grip with pair of zooms (weighing over 2kg for the pair) replaced with 2 primes of around 28mm and 85mm and job done.
Just one of several options waiting in the wings but probably the leading contender today.

I would assume - for most influencers the phone is good enough.

I remember seeing some person's home tour - may it was on queer eye (can't remember) and they setup an area because he was an "influencer" - all they had was a ringlight with phone mount.... and I thought... well... record, edit and throw it on the platform - done.

Sorry - Red One - released in 2007 is really the first... so, technically Red should be thanked for the 4K revolution. If we are talking about affordability... sure lets bring Panasonic in the picture... but it has to be in the same space as Chinese knock offs (I'm sorry if I'm triggering some people - but the truth hurts) and we all know Chinese knock offs are cheap.

Yeah, I understand that it sounds ridiculous to say $3000 when we had an Alexa and lighting equipment borrowed. But it's always going to be a big part of the low budget producing to secure the gear for a low cost.

We rented the lenses but the rest of the camera package we could borrow specifically because we planned the shoot in June when 90 percent of the film market in Sweden is on vacation.

It's all part of the producer's job to get as much as possible with as little money as possible.

Additionally I'm certain we could get almost the same result with a pocket cinema camera and cheap lights. There is so much more to filmmaking than just camera and lighting gear.

Its real - I got a newsletter from Vistek with pre-order details for S5II & S5IIX... Feb 24 delivery date.
I don't know anything about AF though... nor do I know of the real differences between the first gen and second gen.
Wait for the reviews I guess.

Editted to add: Vistek is a camera store here in Canada, its on par to Henrys (but there are way more Henrys than Vistek). Imagine - Bestbuy only for camera equipment (photo & video).

I'm telling you... people that don't know are completely oblivious... people look at 8 seconds and think thats nothing. But if you are at a wedding or any other event... where candid moments are happening on the micro-second level... those 8 seconds feel like an eternity.
Those that don't know - I challenge you... you don't need to be a photographer/videographer at the event... but the next time you attend one... just pay attention... find those candid moments and just count... 1 mississippi... 2 mississippi.... all the way to 8 mississippi... then tell us that 8 seconds is nothing.

I get your arguments and are valid but if you really fear to miss the moment then video with a higher ss may be a better strategy now that camera have high res video that can take a lot of post processing.
I don’t do weddings so I can’t comment but on sports it works well as I get both video and photos and I have many more expressions as I film all the time. The ss is probably less of an issue in sports.

Maybe so, but even 8 seconds is too long for my needs!
But not a concern as I have no current plans to switch to any other system, - great tracking AF (or lack thereof) is the current (and only real cross) I have to bear…but even that is also a case of over-hyping YouTube drama queens 😜

Ron Howard does that - I know he shoots a 50mm (on Super35 though - and he does it to get that tight, portrait type shot) and 24 to 35mm for most other shots.

    Yeah… everyone has different requirements…
As an example there are a ton of examples where the whole movie was shot on a 35mm lens… the one lens gangs…

My guess is that every scene doesn't need to be color matched... the story, the look, the mood, the emotions... different colors invokes different moods and emotions... I think they discuss this and story board it - color and style should be discussed here, the colorist has to give his input here too and the cinematographer needs to choose wisely to match that...

4x4 floppies and 6x6/8x8 solids are useful for negative fill. Anything dark you can put up--a duvetyne, black visqueen, black rip stop nylon, etc--will help block the light bouncing off those bright walls and restore contrast to the setup.

Sounds like  you need to use cutters in the smaller/reflective rooms, so as to avoid the bounce.
