Today was less than ideal ... yesterday I found a Bluejay nestling in the yard ... had fallen 12 meters from a nest in a Chinese Pistachio tree. Barely alive ... nursed him all night and drove 40 miles this morning to deliver him to a wildlife rescue mission ... he will be there for weeks in rehabilitation learning what his parents would have imparted to him in days. Came home to find his nest lying at the bottom of the tree.
There is a perceptable sadness in the garden this afternoon ... we have spent 20 years cultivating a place of rest and one that is somewhat protected from the vagaries of the wild ... although we routinely have predators that enter from the periphery.
Thought I would film a bit of the garden ... seems a bit melancholy ... reflection on our loss ... and yes in view of all the evil in this world it is minor in comparison.
All done with the Canon M50 ... Andrew's EOSHD C Log PP.

This is the Wooden Camera Small DSLR Accessory Kit ... however if you do not need the quick release tripod plate with 15mm rod support you can get the a7/A9 cage
which appears to be on sale at B&H at the moment.

This is a list of all the WC cages and systems ...

    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?ci=3926&fct=fct_brand_name|wooden-camera&N=3907816577

    Again,
The battery door is obstructed so battery and camera are captive. I assume knowing WC the can modify the base for the Canon M50. The side rod which connects the top and base
comes in three sizes so you can use the cage for mirrorless, Canon 5D and 1DX bodies ... I have all three of the rods as they are one of the cheapest parts of the system. Very rigid and
will support a ton of stuff. External monitor recorder, follow focus and matte box ... etc.

    The EOS M50 Rocks!

It's not the spec king of mirrorless cameras but the canon eos m50 just works! The auto focus, canon colors, canon menus, and just the overall ease of use makes this camera perfect for me and my passion projects.

Here is a link to some shots I grabbed with the camera while my students were filming their short film. Forgive me for the bad sound. The students recorded sound separately but not while I was filming. The sound is decent. Overall this was just a test to see how would this camera would look under cinematic lighting.

I got this camera for vlogging mainly but after seeing what it was able to produce with good lighting I'm definitely going to be using it for my short films.

Well then if that's the case... the 5D4 could be epic once the C-Log gets implemented. I wouldn't care so much about the crop, personally, but I understand why it could be an issue or a concern to others. The RS raises a red flag, but if it's exactly like the 1DC, then who cares. If Eli Roth didn't mind it, then who am I to care? Man I hope Canon does an about face and includes C-Log in the 6D2.

^ And likewise, in other ways, you could contend that 4K, IBIS, internal 10 bit etc. makes the GH5 the better choice. Oh, and the GH5 is no slouch shooting stills, but of course we're talking video here.

I disagree. If your intent is to make a narrative film or documentary, I would say the cameras used to shoot the films at Sundance is a great barometer. Now it doesn't mean the films are any better because of it, but it does indicate that the Canon image is still appreciated amongst the upper echelon of the Indie film scene. Or at the very least, it's not a distraction.
This post is about choosing between the GH5 and the 5D4. Omar is obviously impressed by the Canon image, he has stated it multiple times. I was merely expressing one of the reasons why I decided to go back to Canon and why I believe the 5D4 may be the better choice.
With the imminent C-Log update coming out in the near future, I would say the feature gap is even closer now. And in some ways... crop factor, color, AF, FF stills... I could contend the 5D4 is the better choice. You could contend differently and you would probably be right also.

People need to stop saying MLraw workflow "isn't simple"... it's as simple as any other camera I use and it edits on my computer better than h.264. Only thing I think sucks about MLraw is the fact you don't get previews playing back in real time and with sound in camera. That's the only thing that really sucks for me but it isn't a deal breaker imo.
Here's a quick video we just did with GH4, GH5, Gopro, MLraw. (MLraw was normalised to rec709 to better match other footage). Almost wouldn't matter what we shot it on, only Gopro footage stands out to me a bit. Password: 123

Not sure if I would buy a 5DIV right now unless I wanted the crazy autofocus or good stills, but I think it would still be a nice camera to have if I could afford one. GH5 is a more versatile production tool for video though I think.

I almost preordered the GH5, but then @webrunner5 posted a link to an article that did a breakdown of the cameras used at this year's Sundance film festival. And you know what, the overwhelming majority was Canon... everything back to the 5D2. Within the same hour I happened upon a 5D3 ML Raw video and to this day I haven't seen one video from the GH5 that looked even remotely as detailed or cinematic.
Since getting my 5D3, I have been more productive than I've been in the past two years.
Meanwhile, I have also wanted a camera that has a little less workflow needed... even though 5D3 really isn't that big of a deal. So I recently purchased an FZ2500 for a very specific project I'm working on this summer. Yesterday, I messed around with it for a while and although it's a fun camera with insanely cool features, for a point & shoot, the color just doesn't look right, and more work is needed to make it look good, for me anyway. But it's still perfect for this project, so I will end up keeping it, but I think once I am done with that specific project, I am going to sell it and just get another Canon for smaller, quicker projects.
Anyway, my point is that a lot of people complain about Canon and rightfully so, they deserve a kick in the ass for dragging their feet, but in the end, even their oldest of cameras still look pretty good when shot and handled correctly.
Their newer cameras, even at 1080p, look plenty good enough to my eyes and the tiny screens my work will be seen on, so I may just forego 4K and go back to 1080p. Hell, there are even a few M5 videos popping up online that don't look horrible. So unless the 6D2 comes out with great features at a fair price, I may be going the M5/M6 or 80D route for my smaller projects.
Now I'm not saying other people on this forum shouldn't get a GH5. It's an AMAZING camera with plenty of examples of great work floating around the interwebs, but you will not get Canon color straight out of the box and you will not get comparable AF. So if those two features are important to people they should be told there are other options. And even though Canon drags their feet with features, their cameras still produce beautiful images and this year's Sundance film festival proves that.
Now to be clear, I am not advocating that everybody should go out and buy a 5D3 for ML Raw, all I am saying is that I needed to realize who my audience is and what my skill set is and for me Canon, or maybe Nikon, is the better path. If I didn't have the money for a 5D3, I'd shoot with an 80D and still be happy. If I wanted more features, with more lens options, I'd get an EOS-M5 or EOS-M6.
    YMMV.
DISCLAIMER: I don't know ? and people should do their own research. I am merely sharing my opinion based on my experiences. I also reserve the right to change said opinion in the next sentence...
    Wait for it...
The GH5 is the best camera, with the best AF and color.

Agreed, wait a few days and see what Panasonic announces! Will hopefully give you the best of both worlds.

JVC LS300 or Sony FS700 would also make interesting worthwhile supplementary cameras to your C100
    But a C200 / C100 mk3 probably will lack TC or SDI.
Will only get FHD 120fps if we're lucky, or maybe do something twisted like 120fps but in 720P.
Will have 4K, but will be 4K 24p / UHD 30p and be 8bit 420 (maybe it will even be cropped like on the 5D mk4?? Kinda doubt it, but no kind of crippling Canon does would surprise me....)
All for a price even higher than the current C100 mk2!

Depending on price I'd jump on a C200. My current C100 is getting long in the tooth codec/fps/resolution wise.  I'm guessing they'll go with the C300/XC15 4:2:2, 8-bit 305Mbps  codec for 4K but hopefully surprise us with 10-bit to rival FS5.
I've also been tempted to upgrade my 5D3 to 5D4 but have a real problem with the massive MJPEG codec, 1.7 crop & rolling shutter. Waiting to see what the 6D2 will be like. Could be Canon's opportunity to fix the 5D4's video shortcomings (although I don't expect a vast improvement).

I agree Ben. Color should be a spec. I guess what bugs me is the fact that canon seems to limit some of their cameras that can do more then what they're locked into doing.
For example, look at the 5d iii and what the ML hack has been able to do with this cam. It shows the almost limitless capabilities that camera can do. But the 5d iii out of the box without jail breaking has hardly any video features. Why canon???
So canon makes cameras that are capable of being amazing but just blocks this from us and tries to force us to upgrade our camera. :/
And I get it. They don't want everyone buying just one of their cameras but that doesn't mean you completely make your dslrs crap. Look at Sony. Even though they have their FF mirrorless cams with a ton of video features people still buy a ton of fs5's and fs7's. I just don't get why canon can't do the same.
I mean canon is just now putting c-log on the 5d iv! LOL Why now? Why not when the camera was released? C'mon canon! It's pretty ridiculous IMO.

If it were my money, and I could afford either, I'd go with the Mark IV. Just take a look at Vimeo, IMO there are way more nicer 5D4 videos than GH5 videos even taking the fact that the 5D4 has been out 6 months longer into account.
Also, I find it peculiar that everybody gets the GH5 or the a7sii and then try their damnest to create this LUT or that LUT to get Canon color... Ummm...
Or they buy this camera or that camera because it has focus peaking but then complain about its autofocus. With Canon you don't really need focus peaking because the DPAF will be spot on every time.

Sorry to de rail your question. Really depends on what your needs are. Sounds like you're a Canon fanboy so I'd say stick with Canon. The 5D IV has really nice 1080p at full frame with the AF. The MJPG isn't as much of a pain as people make it out to be. It's ONLY one small step of converting your footage. I own a 1DC and strategically plan when to convert to ProRes and go watch a show on Netflix or YouTube while it goes
As soon as it's done I'm so happy with the color and the image quality.
By the way I convert to 4k ProRes LT with a low bitrate. It cuts my original file sizes by 1/3 and it plays on my Mac like butter. Super smooth and easy to edit natively off an external hard drive on my MacBook Pro and iMac

C200 will more than likely have dual pixel autofocus, built in ND, flip out screen, compressed 4k, canon colors for the same or less price of a 1DX II. Seems like the perfect compromise to me.
