I own the Bolex since a few months an I really like him. I use him with the Voigländer Ultron 40mm at my Samsung NX1. I have the one with bleuish / magenta flares and that one is what I have heard very rare. I consider buying the hardcoreDNA, but then I need also a rig for the weight of the combi. But perhaps I switch over to the Iscorama 36 to keep it compact for point and shoot. The sharpness of the Bolex is amazing!

The GH5 vs NX-1 vs 5D IV... saga continues...
He is saying the NX-1 4:2:0 8bit has more detail than the GH5 4:2:2 10bit... but he is using the stock NX-1 with no hack and I dont think he has the upgraded GH5 10 Bit... 
But from what I understand I think he is missing the point... the sharpness of the NX-1 has never been in question... the main reason for 10bit is expanded color space and grading flexibility not sharpness

House of card intro is a great classic from Drew Geraci but it was all done with a slider (dynamic perception). That's an "easy" hyperlapse method. For long hyperlapse you'll need much more work (manual move shot move with a tripod and frame by frame post-stab).

I was planning on doing a more in depth test, but I only had a few minutes to spare during a shoot to compare the two cameras with our actress.
GH5 Settings: UHD, V Log L 10 bit, ISO 800, 24p, Sigma 18-35, shot at 28mm f4 using Nikon Speedbooster.
Ursa Mini 4.6K Settings: UHD, ProRes 422, ISO 800, 24p, Sigma 18-35, shot at 28mm f4.
Grade: I started with Comet Color A Side for the UM46K. Added a bit of contrast and saturation. From that point I tried matching the GH5's color/exposure to match.
Lighting was mixed conditions. Her face was lit with a Quasar Science 5600K LED tube + natural daylight coming in the window. Background lights were running at around 2600K. Walls are a greenish yellow color naturally.

Shot on Samsung NX1, gamma DR, sharpness -10, UHD 25fps. Canon FD 50 f1.4 @ f2. Cropped sides and most shots stabilized, also added a bit of contrast with curves.
Probably didn't have a perfect alignment of the lenses, but I think it was close. Now need to make a better mounting. Will post some pics of the setup too.

I like the size and the fact that it boosts your whole systems power capacity is cool.. but for that price Id be looking at a Used BM 4k Assist.

This update(audio, plugins and stabilizer improvement) is great and all. But I am really bummed out about the price drop from $999 to $299 for Resolve Studio version. I mean the resale value just dropped massively. I own 2 davinci dongles, and this hurts my wallet big time! This business is hardcore. 70% price drop over one night, I feel kinda f##**d by BM at this point.

I was just at the Sony press release and spoke to a Sony Rep. there was literally nothing interesting at the press release. I told the rep I was hoping for a Sony a9s and he asked me why? I told him it's because I want Slog and better video features. He then asked me "why why don't you just get an a7S II?" I said I want phase detect autofocus and the better battery. He then said "well you're going to have to wait a long time."
 
conclusion:
nothing new here. Looks like we will wait at least another 6 months before we see anything.

They should indeed have some kind of hotshoe on the side, no fuzz with cables either, you just click it in, it locks and feeds it with a video with some kind of interlinked connector. But what a rubbish approach anyways. If they were able to do the BMPCC... can't they just take the GH5 housing and make an epic BMPCC 2.0? With like 2.5 or 4K ProRes/RAW DNG? I'm not sure there's a cinema camera with sensor stabilization, I don't think one will exist for a long long time either.
Or here's another mash-up I've thought of:

I figured Nikon could enter the APS-C mirrorless market by getting giving the NX1 an update to the Nikon mirrorleX NX2... including vari-angle touchscreen and sensor stabilization! Of course, I'm not opposed to Blackmagic running away with that concept and turning it into a cinema machine! Just, after the BMPCC there weren't really any like stills camera formfactor cinema cameras anymore... everything had to be frankenrigged, and who really wants to deal with that?
On the other hand, I do think that BMD received a lot of crap for the BMPCC from people who were total n3wbz and had no idea what the camera actually was. It's just not a Canon Ixus that you point 'n shoot... so like 3DR Solo... I think they are like 'fuck those puny little consumers, let's deal with professionals only... they have deep pockets! And you've got to lure big fish in with big bait!'.

Found another video this one is NX1 vs GH5 straight up... I believe hes a Korean brother... Figured I would post here rather than make a new thread...
It seems the NX-1 is way sharper (can be good or bad depending) and the 10bit color on GH5 does look a little "Thicker" but I could easily get them to match in resolve... 
also I dont think he has NX-1 is in standard color profile if you dont want to correct much it looks great.. 
Guess im not the only one going down with the Samsung ship!  Trapped in a velvet coffin!

I only an hobbyist, but one of the books I've read recently is "Directing the Documentary".
I liked the chapters describing what makes a good documentary story and structure wise and how to plan the work.
I found the chapters about camera technique to be banal, so I would recommend selective reading for anyone interested in documentaries.

Looks like Canon have noted Panasonic's "we'll send you it in the mail" approach to log upgrades and gone "Nah, fuck that....lets go utterly retro and make them actually physically bring the camera to us to have it done".
Strikes me as a bit suspicious that you have to take it to them. Is this their sneaky way of getting a firmware and hardware mod on that locks Magic Lantern out of it permanently thereby ensuring no one gets a free ride from buying future Canon cameras whilst simultaneously making them $99 a time for the upgrade and saving them that darn $2.99 on postage into the bargain? Fiendish if so.

Im sure this is over simplifying  but it seems you would have to just tell the camera to record 24 8mp raw files a second... It can do 15 a sec with 28mp raw... this seems plausible 
I really wish I knew reverse engineering... or forward engineering even!
