@BTM_Pix G'damn this deserves more attention man. Excellent job. Hope the community picks it up. Just ordered a cheap GX80, can't wait to give it cine D ;-)
(OT: you mentioned in another thread a mic input hack for the GX80? Did you take it apart and find a connector on the board or something? Or just kidding? ;-))

I remember a YT video from a guy soldering a mic input on his LX100 yeah...cool stuff.
Let me take the opportunity to cheer you on for having a go at you GX80 ;-)

    OK, another day, another app
As I originally mentioned, the Bracket part of my test app was a bit flaky but as another forum member wanted just the bracket part, I've made a dedicated one.

Usual story, activate the Wifi on your Panasonic camera and select Connect.
Choose the base shutter speed with the Shutter button.
The choose the number of plus and minus steps that you want with the sliders.
These are 1/3rd steps so its 6 stops in either direction.
Depending on your particular Panasonic camera, you may have to activate electronic shutter to get the upper values if you've got a high base speed and have a number of + steps.
If you don't activate electronic shutter then it will just go as high as it can with the mechanical shutter and then repeat the same frames after that.
When you are all set up, press the Bracket button and it will begin executing the commands, beginning with your base frame and then doing the over and unders that you have set.
To prevent overloading the Wifi and to take into account slower FPS cameras there is a delay built in between frames.

Internet Lynch mob, it is facinating you can read through this post and watch the mob just whip themselves up into a frenzy. Is this a joke or a con, possibly maybe even likely, but if I was this "kid" and I did have a hack my attitude now would be fuck these guys. He announced a date, it is fine and good to be skeptical but all you had to was just sit back and wait - all will be revealed on April first. It's like sitting by and watching a bunch of children waiting for Christmas to come impatiently obsessing over every possibilitity. At this piont I hope the hack is real and no one gets it.

I film and edit a weekly 'docutainment' (I hate that word) show for TV broadcast that needs to finished every week on a Tuesday afternoon. It's then checked for any technical faults and sent on to broadcasters who - I assume - have an automated system to get it into their schedule and it hits the airwaves 2 days later for the end audience to enjoy. Since it's a very tight schedule with a hard deadline that simple can't be missed, I 'publish' every single Tuesday just before lunch.
On top of that, I also live in a different country to my family and have 2 small kids, so I also make short videos of them learning and doing things to upload and share with family. I try to do at least two a month, but that's self imposed and don't put too much stress on it.
Then I also have a few personal projects that are closer to work than the family videos, mini docs and animations about random subjects that take my interest at the time. Those take a lot longer to finish, and publish as they're more time consuming than the family videos, and it's hard to find the time to do them. I treat them more as teaching myself a new skill or testing equipment and don't put any pressure on myself to finish them by a certain time.

Trust me, it's bewildering to many Americans as well. I won't get into political conversations here, so if anyone has a retort you will not get a follow up from me.
But we definitely need a good overall of our public policies in my country. Webrunner's story is not unlike many, many Americans. Statistics show that many Americans are roughly a paycheck away from total poverty and many go bankrupt with medical bills, even with having insurance.
I recently had a talk with my 13-year old son about what to do if some crazed individual comes to his school with a weapon. Not a conversation I ever imaged I'd have to have with my children. It's surreal.

Current EOS M5 has digital image stabilization, not IBIS. Not sure how well it works. Come to think of it, I don't think any Canon bodies have IBIS... I think the people who actually buy entry level Canikon products don't really cross-shop anything else.

People love their precious hardcoreDNA's so good luck ;-) But sometimes there is one for sale, usually at a premium above retail price.
Ask around in the Anamorphic Shooters group on FB. Good people mostly, and both the developer and EU reseller of hardcoreDNA are active there as well.

Correct!.... Sorry I was half asleep when I posted before. Yes, indeed the Tokina is a tad stronger...probably making the Minolta closer to the +0.33 power others have claimed. To be honest I personally consider them close enough in power for the two to be considered quite equal in terms of power and quality.

I guess it depends on you priorities. Both combo's give you roughly the same field of view, both are sharp. The Nikons + SB will give you al lot more light and more shallow DOF. But they will be a quite lot more expensive, and the whole package will be significantly larger/longer/heavier than when using the Sigma lenses.
(BTW, the Kowa needs to be well aligned to be able to perform at wide open apertures, see Tito's video on the sharpness fix).

The lens has very pronounced CA on edges of image due to no blackening on large front optic edge and very thin element and coating. The focusing mechanism is (at least on my copy) a very simplistic locking screw that meant that the body separates the two halves and user can twist, extend or contract the lens for focus, then the locking screw is tightened to keep that distance set. It was never meant for constant adjustment - rather for 'setup and leave' on a projector. The large front element size of the Magnum prohibits its use with current vari-diopter offerings, so is not a very practical lens for filming with...saying that, it could be made to work as a focus-through type lens on a smaller sensor that could have large diopters attached for closeup subjects.
The lens is basically a scaled up version of the 'Palamorphot' or 'Zenascope' type that I think we're all made for or sold by the Widescreen Center London. All share same simplistic focusing method and general image quality.
Streak flare is a very nice light blue colour, but the mechanical simplistic focus adjustment/ medium to poor image quality (CA on edges) and large size front optic don't really make it practical for filmmaking use IMHO.

I haven't been following many of those sorta sites or forums (NoFilmSchool, Cinema5D, REDuser, dvxuser, etc) as they always seemed to be for the bit more hardcore cinematographers and fanboys. Especially the forums, with a maze of subforums and early 2000's layout and users with no patience for newbies. No country or normal men. Nah, apart from rumorsites this is about the only place keep checking on the regular. EOSHD has managed to keep a fresh approach and the audience as well as the curator allow for diverse content, though the main theme is: creativity meets common sense. Most revolves around practical and affordable gear and how to use 'em to bring visions to life, not exclusive to people already well-established in the industry. There's a general vibe of chillness, openness, positivity and creativity that makes the forum content range go wherever the crowd takes it. You'll find a lot of passionate enthusiasts here, like me, that might not feel at home that well at other places (where the thing that counts seems to be being init as a professional, rather than doing it for the passion). Apart from EOSHD I think that for the more interesting informative and opinionated content you'll have to head towards YouTube, some channels there are great.

People have argued and debated on the internet since the beginning on USENET (even before on dial-up BBS's). One reason people are in a much more dramatic space is due to the constant negative divisive programming coming daily from mainstream media and the frequent reminder of world war III starting with N. Korea. India is now in a standoff with China. At the same time the US government is under assault from the so-called deep state, run by the bankers looking to hold onto power after the impending global financial reset. Consciously and unconsciously this results in an increase in negative behavior online.
We can keep our heads down and fiddle with our cameras and gear, or we can get out and make films and videos designed to bring unity, show how we can work together, how we can survive when the financial reset happens, how we can survive if WW 3 happens, and even better how we can all stand up and voice our global desire: war is not an acceptable solution to the financial crisis.
If this is one of the last forums where useful information is shared and people get along, then the pattern is an example to apply to other forums, news site comment sections, Facebook and so on. Now more than ever in all our lifetimes is the time to figure out how to work together non-competitively and with kindness, for the survival of everyone.

Timotheus reacted to tupp in Is it still rule today to think about m43 cameras as -2x light performance to full frame
Just to reiterate:  in regards to a sensor with a given quality/configuration, it is the photosite size that influences maximum sensitivity/DR -- not the size of the sensor.

When comparing a full frame sensor with zillion megapixels (tiny photosites) to a M4/3 with much fewer, larger photosites, the M4/3 sensor will exhibit a higher maximum usable sensitivity and a greater capture dynamic range.  Again, this principle assumes that all other variables are equal, such as:  the sensor internal configuration/design; the A/D converter; post-sensor NR; etc.

Of course, if we compare a full frame sensor and a M4/3 sensor having the same resolution and the same internal configuration/design, the full frame sensor will have larger photosites, and thus greater max sensitivity and dynamic range.

So, if you embiggen the photosites, you generally embiggen the sensitivity/DR, regardless of what the "jabronis" say.

    embiggen:

If the iso, shutter speed and f-stop are the same, then the exposure of the two cameras should be the same, regardless of the sensor size.  With identical settings and barring the use of filters or extreme color/contrast profiles, the only difference in exposure might be due to lens transference.

Keep in mind that iso is "sensitivity," so two cameras set to the same iso should have the same light sensitivity.

Noise is an entirely different issue, but suffice it to say, larger photosites (sensor pixels) usually mean less noise (more dynamic range), all other variables being equal.  So, if a full frame sensor and a M4/3 sensor have the same resolution, the full frame sensor will likely have less noise (all other variables being equal).

    Well, pentaprism at least.
    Anyhoo....
If you want to monitor audio from your camera but it doesn't have a headphone jack then a little lateral thought will get you here.
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B016I34422/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1499264817&sr=8-13&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=hdmi+audio+extractor
Plug this into the HDMI socket and it will extract the audio to a 3.5mm jack socket at which point you can then use a similarly cheap and small battery headphone amp to monitor it with or if you want to be all fancy and wireless you could use a Bluetooth transmitter like this which are all over amazon for about £12
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B018YU3VVC/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1499265402&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=battery+powered+bluetooth+transmitter&dpPl=1&dpID=41aHuVS8uuL&ref=plSrch
Good thing about this - apart from sticking it to the man and not having to buy the next model up to get such a fundamental feature - is that you are listening post the camera taking it in. External pre-amps are good by offering you headphone monitoring but its before the camera has taken it in so can give you a false sense of security.

@PhilipV I'm somewhat confused as you ask for a 35mm, but then the widest possible. So do you mean 35mm focal length or a wide lens used in analog 35mm photography?
If we're talking 35mm focal length, I can also recommend @Bioskop.Inc's Mir 24N (nice flares also). Furthermore check Super Takumar 35mm/F3.5 (compact and sharp), or the 35mm/F2 (more expensive and longer). For 35mm/F2.8 there are many, many options. Well known are Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon and the Mir-1 (which is actually 37mm).

The second test uses a 30mm helicoid (which allows focus down to about 8-9 inches) and a custom-fit aluminum housing that replaces the polyurethane:

All footage was shot using my beloved silver Helios-44.  Except for a few underexposed shots where I boosted the brightness, all footage is straight out of the camera & unaltered (I'm far too new at this to attempt color grading, anyways).
