Kurtisso got a reaction from Dustin in Is this pro shot interview as terrible as I think?
It looks like a bad case of individuals trying too hard to be the star of the show. I can already hear the interviewer asking the camera man for "some cool like slowmo shots like following me up to this mansion all like dreamy and stuff, very epic you know?". Then the cameras during the interview are swaying around with arbitrary movements like the last two getting kicked out of the bar when the ugly lights come on. The motions aren't related to the content or the emotions of the interview, in fact they are so obnoxious that they actually distract the guys being interviewed (you can see them looking over at the cam wondering if he's going to fall over into a whiskey coma). IBIS can only do so much! Rig it up and stand the f*** still!

Those silly zooms at 2:00. OH boy, didn't watch much past that but racked a little further and they just pop out again. Very good.

I'm a Kings of Leon fan (as well as a fan of many other bands/artists). I found this interview about their new album. Now i'm not one to criticize work but considering it was on apple I would assume it to be pretty good quality. Yet it was very, very distracting for me to watch, not so much due to the actual shots but the motion. It seemed almost as it had bad warp stabilizer applied or bad rolling shutter? I couldn't put my finger on it but I almost feel some of the camerawork was a bit unwatchable for my tastes. Thoughts anyone?? Curious to hear!

Also additional note: 1) I like handheld style footage as well as stable, locked down footage. But some of this seems like it could've benefited from a monopod as some of the shots feels really shot on the fly but I personally don't love it.

Yeah, but there's definitely a market for it.  More people have looked at dpreview A7RII studio charts than all the movies I've ever made.
Now, I'd like to say my movies have probably made more people cry than dpreview studio charts, but I suspect that's somehow wrong too.

The global shutter option "C700 GS PL" has very clear details, it's just that you missed it.
Advertised DR is 14 stops, one stop less than regular C700.
Sensitivity on C700 GS seems normal:
    4K 60fps or lower/2K crop 120fps or lower:
    [*200 - 320 - 25600 - *102400]

    4K over 60fps/2K crop over 120fps:
    [*400 - 640 - 25600 - *102400]
There might be a slight drop in base sensitivity, similar to F55.

You guys are surprised about the xc15? Why? You already knew this.
Its a xx5 update. Usually that means an SDI port and nothing else. And now its all of a sudden a surprise. Find it strange.
As I see it the audio port was all it should have gotten. Waveform is a huge bonus.
I don't know anymore. People get happy, angry and sad over weird features these days. Same when a new camera (forgot which) had moved the mic jack away from the screen. People where upset even though it's a massive deal. It makes rotating screens actually rotatable. And instead they go apeshit over some bogus feature.
I mean I get it. I got as much G.A.S as the next guy. But Im not emotional and I don't get all psychotic demanding this and that for free, calling people idiots or lay awake at night because of a frame rate.
This whole looking at gear and hanging out on forums is imo supposed to be fun and relaxing. Don't get heart attacks over it. Bcause at the end of the day its just meaningless and stupid cameras.
And professionally none of us "need" anything that isn't already out there to do our job.

With this little comparison, i wanted to test out slow motion capabilites and compression variations of Sony FS5. Salt particles were used on a subwoofer to spring rapidly.
For test purposes, two square LED light panels, two small LED lights and IceLight were used. Camera was set to 5500K white balance, 18 to 42 degree shutter angle with aperture set to 16.
PS: Due to YouTube compression, it can be hard to identify defects of each setup. 800fps version was automatically cropped.

Yeah, the AXS-R5 is $5,350.00, I imagine that the R7 will cost more. Add $3,600.00 for each TB of proprietary memory... yowza! With fun ways to make money like that, my guess is that we won't be seeing compressed raw in the mid-range/prosumer cams for aaaaaaawwwhile. Probably longer than it took for s-log to find its way into prosumer.
I see that Sony is pushing that the R5 and R7 are weather-sealed, are the F55 and F5 weather-sealed too?

That is great news for F5/55 owners although it is kind of a bummer that you need the pricey and kinda bulky recorder to get that. While the size doesn't matter in normal production environments, it's always a plus if you can strip a camera down for special applications without losing features like this.
Anyway, it's good to see that Sony is getting in on the compressed raw formats so that they will be able to put it into their future cameras, hopefully to mid range/prosumer cams aswell.

That's why sometimes to the client/producer my KineMAX is like an Arri Alexa (can shoot 16 stops DR at 3K in raw with beautiful digital grain, colour and highlight rolloff) and sometimes it is like a RED Dragon (4K compressed raw high frame rates and 6k acquisition in a smaller, modular body).
Camera choice for me starts with what do I want to achieve given the concept for the work, can I achieve this with the current tools I own (or do I have to hire) while considering budget generally, and then how do I communicate this to client/producer/director etc... for which if I have to I will put together a combination of test footage/previous work with a bit of a sample look.

I know a lot of DPs who own a mini and have already paid it off.  They just don't brag about it.
Reduser regulars except for my friend Nick are their own brand of "interesting" folks.
Nearly everyone in the LA and NYC commercial scene own or use the Alexa almost exclusively.  I don't know many DPs who would chose to rent a red over an alexa mini.
Before, red dragon was going strong because it was small and lightweight.  that all changed with the Amira and then definitely with the mini.
Red is pretty much, in my mind, over.  Unless Mr Jinnard really does introduce "the next big thing" - which I doubt.
C300ii definitely looks interesting at its price.
Red was really attractive to producers 5 years ago.
Now, all they want is the Alexa.
But you can easily convince a producer to use your camera if you show them the work you do on it and can explain to them why it's a better choice for the project.  If the producer doesn't listen to you, they aren't being a smart producer.

If you want raw & HFR and your budget is around US$13K then look at the KineFinity Terra 5K/6K, you could get two even for that budget!

    Or a FS700/FS5 with an Odyssey 7Q+

Probably because until very recently owning an Alexa was prohibitively expensive for the vast majority of owner ops!
But with older secondhand ones showing up, and the Alexa Mini, the situation is changing to make it kinda affordable for some.

Take those listings with a MASSIVE grain of salt, unless you first dig deeper into it.

Often a movie can be listed on there merely because a RED was used to shoot a few 6K VFX plates, but 98% of the rest of the film was shot with Arri Alexas. Or perhaps just a few seconds of aerial shots were done with a RED (which of course they'd now use an Alexa Mini for instead).

Zach is spot on. You didn't say what kind of product it is (I pray it's not a car, then you're probably way over your head) but usually what really counts for product photos is the lighting, you'll probably want to shoot with manually set strobes (at least 1 + reflector but probably more). Focus on that, camera isn't really important, you'll manually focus anyway so all the technical bells & whistles are pretty much useless.
I'd shoot with the SIGMA 50-100mm on APS-C from a tripod with whatever has a nice flippy screen or you can also tether to a tablet or computer. Shoot RAW and edit in Lightroom. Done.

Honestly for product photos, lighting is everything. Lens choice is a close second. If I were in your shoes I'd probably lean towards Nikon - something like the D3300 is more than sufficient even as basic as it is. Combined with that Sigma glass and you should get great results.
that being said - GX85 will more than get the job done as well, especially with that 12-35 you have. You might get more use out of this with video work too as stated by Mercer

I saw an fs700 with 4k firmware go for £1800 on ebay the other day.. If you had another £1k for an external recorder you could have a solid 4k HFR camera under £3k.
I'd buy an F3 as a B or C camera, but not as a main camera these days. Wouldn't go higher than a £1k for it.

I own one still, used to have three.

here's some things I shot on it:

It's a really great camera, has built in XLRs, I really like slog1 and sgamut - and man for the price, it's a great deal.
Is it better than the canon 1dx which is probably now cheaper at the same price?
Or the blackmagic MCC or pocket?
That's where you need to do some testing.
    Check motion, color, etc.
I think at this point a rigged out BMPCC with a nice monitor maybe a good alternative too.
If you need the extra resolution.
Anyway it's any interesting time to be alive.
