I bought the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K recently and decided to take it on a shoot at Monza, to film last weekend's Formula One race and famous old banking (where sequences for 1966's John Frankenheimer film Grand Prix were shot). I also had a few stills cameras with me including the Canon EOS RP, and considerably more capable Fuji X-T30 and Samsung's famous last camera, the NX1, the only good one they ever made. These are super-fast small bodies for travelling light and the NX1 in particular with it's stunning 4K quality turned out to be perfect for sports photography with the 15fps continuous shooting rate.

Seriously, untill the old mis-mangement is retired or fired, I will never look at another Canon ad, or anything else.

You damn right, they didn't. It was a deliberate act to cripple the camera as part of their increasingly aggressive segmentation game (forcing certain people looking for certain features to look at more expensive options; which is a very business oriented strategy which of course isn't a very good sign of goodwill and might alienate more people than it attracts). Which is a very reasonable and rational explanation. A much better one than including 24p because implementing so would make the camera too costly (again, we've seen cameras getting 24p added through a firmware update, long after it was sold to the customer!). The entry level Rebel T7 does 1080p24. You know which Canon camera does 4K24p? The Canon PowerShot SX740 HS, lol. A consumer budget compactcamera. So stop all this nonsense about costs or technical implementation, it's all bogus. They did it on purpose and it was not to cut down on costs of the camera itself, it was in the hopes that due to leaving it out it would generate more camera sales in higher tier products. Which is a shame, because no other camera company is leaving out something basic as 24p!
Canon blew up after the 5DmkII and 550D/T2i. Then the whole Magic Lantern years trying to make them more into what Panasonic was doing as a company themselves with the GH-range, unlocking more potential, giving its users more quality and features. Yet Canon as a company? It's swinging that 'cripple hammer'. Why do you do it?

What good have they really done after the 5DmkII? They started the whole HDSLR revolution if you will and now they're the ones least eager to keep up with it (it's like they managed to pull the Excalibur sword out... and then sold it for its precious metals). Just makes me puke. ?

The lack of 24p is funny because it's literally one frame less than 25p which you can shoot. So what about 24p makes it impossible to write? Nothing. It's entirely doable. They've done it in the past. They can do it now.
Why isn't it there then? Because they're stupid. And this is why we're making fun of Canon.

Greetings everyone!  Proud new owner of an Andromeda DVX100 reporting in!  It was actually dumb luck that I stumbled onto this group and, more specifically, this conversation!  I just managed to get an archive of the Sculptor HD software literally the other day and and currently working on a portable run-and-gun handheld solution for on the go recording, which consists of a hackintosh laptop running Sculptor, and a secondary hot-swappable internal hard drive bay on the laptop that will essentially allow me to use large SSDs as recording cartridges.
I'm still working out the kinks and learning how to properly calibrate the software for the best possible capture.. I'm a novice enthusiast who has more of an interest in the technology aspect as opposed to straight-up filmmaking, but once I get everything running I will be sharing the resulting footage!
I hope we can keep the conversation about the Andromeda mod going!  I'm very excited to see what will come next!

buggz reacted to Andrew Reid in Making Money on YouTube for Idiots (Me) 2019
    Follow this advice first @kaylee!
    It is spot on.
The initial aim isn't money, and I would argue the aim is never ever about just money. The aim is good content. Money just "happens" if you get that bit right. I think Dave's advice about the affiliates is good as well, but none of that will apply initially as you build your audience and following.
    My advice is this:
    Sheer passion.
You have to create the videos based on your passion, your enthusiasm and interest and sheer enjoying in making them. Once it becomes a chore or like work, the content gets lifeless and repetitive. This goes for everything. It goes for filmmakers, as much as it does for dog videos and cute stuff, everything has to have some inspiration or passion behind it to succeed, and you need to be almost obsessive about the subject over long periods of time. You have to love it.
If you love dogs, like I do, go for it. You don't even need to think about it initially, just have fun and do what you do. If it's fun for you it's fun for me to watch and I will subscribe and join in the fun.
My girlfriend watches guinea pig videos on YouTube, and has a riot. When she's stressed or upset she watches rabbit being washed in bubble bath There is massive demand for this sort of content on YouTube but quite a lot of it about. If you are unique, and I think you are, you'll succeed if you stick with it and build that following.
Don't even look at the balance sheet though, for at least 2 months, and obviously don't spend more than you have to creating the videos at first, until you have a following and merchandise (or affiliate income) that can support it. Build a niche and a brand and they will come! Sell t-shirts, sell merchandise to your fans.
It sounds like you have an absolute gem of a setting, the forest, the awesome dogs... So go for it and don't look back.
When I started EOSHD I was just a forum poster at DVXUser giving out all this info for free on someone else's site and the site admins were horrible to me one day, so I thought - right - enough of this, I'm going to set up my own camera blog, my own forum, and that was EOSHD. I hope my passion showed through!
    GOOD LUCK!

buggz reacted to amsh89es335 in Perfect lighting kit in a backpack. Aputure Amaran AL-F7.
I put together a Interview Lighting kit that fits all into a backpack including 3 light stands, batteries, chargers and umbrellas. Got to test it out Saturday night and its perfect for interviews when traveling and I believe everything should be safe to carry on a plane. The new Aputure Amaran AL-F7 on camera LED light' have a very good energy efficiency when set at 55k color temperature and along with the GH5S and A7S Mk ii low light capabilities got me thinking about making a very useful scaled down lighting kit for travel.
I am using 4x Aputure Amaran AL-F7 LEDs with batteries. Each NP970 battery is getting little over 2.5hrs on a full charge. I have 10 in the kit giving me at least 5hrs of battery life plus 2 extra when running all 4 lights at 100%.
In the images below I have some screen grabs from the interview I did last Saturday. I got with my GH5S with the Metabones Speed Booster F2 at ISO 400 with V-Log. The close up shot was with the A7S MK II at ISO 2000 with F2.8 while being 1 stop over exposed for SLog.
I did a lot of looking around and for diffusing the key and fill and the best thing for being fast and compact enough to fit with in the backpack were Westcott Collapsible umbrella.
So even though I own a lot of lighting and grip gear I can find myself using this very often. Air Travel would be a big one. Cramped spaces like offices or small living rooms for interviews. But also when I do documentaries sometimes the subject being interviewed can be intimated by lots of lighting and grip gear. This would give me the freedom to make the subject feel comfortable.
The kit with everything in the list below was $1050.
Let me know what you think, if you have any questions or suggestions for improvements.

First proper video I've shot on the GFX 100:

Didn't have much to knock this together, but the camera did a pretty respectable job, especially as the last two shots are at 2000 ISO. The whole video was shot in Eterna.
Unfortunately, the DR+ profile did not seem to be functioning properly, so blacks were quite crushed in the captured footage, unlike what I was seeing in my histogram and external monitor. I'm optimistic that this will be fixed when we get production cameras.

I wished more film was produced.  Kodak pissed me off with their mis-managed disaster.
    I really miss film.
Film can still be produced profitably, I think Ilford still makes prepaid yearly runs of ULF, I don't know why this can't be applied to any other format/type.

I think that it's important to understand why you want to get into film in the first place.
If you're looking to use film for the aesthetic of modern film (great colour, DR, infinite bit-depth lol, etc) then you'll probably want a fully automatic camera that is easy to use and you can easily execute your vision by controlling it like a semi-modern camera.
If you want the aesthetic of vintage film because there's a surprise and (I think) magic in the imperfect aesthetic then you may not care so much about being able to execute your vision, but in a sense it's more a case of pointing it in the right direction and seeing what aesthetics come out, rather than what you specifically tried to put in.
Both will (to a greater or lesser extent) give you the experience of using a film camera without burst modes or the ability to see the image until it's processed.
For me the attraction was in the process being slowed down, but also in the kind of random magic that came out, even from the Tintype app I used.  One thing I didn't mention about that app was that it stored the original image with removable changes on top, so you could revert it back to the straight image that the camera took, and I tell you, reverting to the original image removes 100% of the magic of those images.  The beauty is in the horrific distortion.  I would go out with the family to the beach and take maybe 20 shots (ie, went nuts!) and half of them would be keepers.  The distortions in that app are almost a nostalgic art production-line.  Almost anything looks great.

    Anyway, I'll stop now.

The app with built-in GeckoView should perform solid and fast, but that comes with the price of 40Mb.
As we move to Fenix launch, GeckoView is being optimized, however aarch64 is lagging, and as such only 32bit version is delivered trough the store.
Using android's built-in library is less reliable, and performance depends on specific device, as there are still some bugs related to specific hardware, which are still pending.

As such, I recommend you stick with Mozilla's GeckoView version for now.

There may not ever be a GH6, who knows. I don't see how they can sell a m4/3 camera for as much or more than the S1 FF is. Panasonic has put their ass in a peculiar spot. What, they going to admit the GH5 was too expensive and come out with a GH6 for 1500 Dollars? They may just give up on m4/3. I don't see how you can sell them when the XT-3, Canon RS is so damn cheap now.
Look at the A6400, 900 dollars. Yeah we might not think the A6400 is the best thing since sliced bread, but to the average person getting into video it seems like a better buy being APSC than any m4/3 camera. And a lot of people don't even know Panasonic Makes cameras.
