  1. (I shoot a lot of Nikon DSLR and I can open clips right from the card to preview in QT player, and drag my favorites to an MPEG Streamclip batch, very easy. My "event" cameras are Panasonics, where I have to go through log & transfer in FCP to get prores clips, similar to C300 footage, etc. Those are my two transcoding paths I use daily).

yeah youll have no problem doing that on a mac. none of that avchd bs. ive dealt w that in the past and i made sure to avoid it like the plague w this camera. files pop open w quicklook in your finder or in qt, audio and video work fine in fcpx. although.......

Resolve (at least 12 and for me) is a PITA. No audio unless you rewrap into .mov and after that I'm having major issues as well (might be Windows 10 or the beta release, though). Sony uses some non-standard audio encoding and XML metadata files. Nothing major, though.

i havent been saving those xml files are they something i need?? ?  i was hoping that maybe if i ignored them theyd go away :relaxed:

  2. after rereading this thread i had to laugh its a bit ironic that all the software we're talking about is made by ~the same company~

the people on this website are really smart i wish we could organize a PP 2015/Adobe feedback master thread that adobe would actually read because it would be great advice for them. its coming from smart users who often have a lot of design education

and i say this as a creative cloud subscriber~! i pay $60 a month and i want my apps to overlap more

  3. What he meant is that you can create the LUT in Lightroom (or photoshop too) that gives you the look that you want, and then use that LUT in Premiere instead of the built in color grading.

right! for me making a lut in lightroom or photoshop is a quick and easy way to make lumetri in premiere a lot more useful – i do both~! im p much just making luts to do gamut correction on my f------ bizarre slog2 footage, using that as an input lut in lumetri and having fun from there~!

the real time playback in premiere w lumetri is why im trying to use it in the first place.... and bc of the the lightroom/acr simplicity that i am so familiar with :relaxed:

regarding the op: BrorSvensson, premiere seems to be quite literally and figuratively the answer to your question as these guys have said; adobe has self consciously been adding more 'simple' color features in premiere, pushing its ultimate functionality more in the direction of speedgrade but with a bit of that lightroom easiness. im looking forward to a lumetri interface in the future that is even more like lightroom, w more power to adjust color like hue vs hue controls/etc.

the weirdest thing to me about lumetri atm is the curves....... anybody else kno what im talking about here...??? the controls are... awkward. its sticky in a bad way and it just seems way too hard to drag the black and white points around.... i mean how many programs use curves lol? why cant that feel more like photoshop

anyway, i fully support the continued evolution of a lumetri that is more like lightroom than speedgrade, a more acr-friendly slider interface, but considering PP 2015 is the first time lumetri has appeared i think its p cool ;)

  4. Hi Guys,

Yes, you are right. I am the developer of the Cinema 4K app.

I have started this development, because of the limitations of the built in camera app. I have also tried other apps for 4K video recording, but at the end I decided to write my own.

I have tested it on an LG G4 and Samsung Galaxy S6. On LG G4 the AE lock is not working and  - because of the weaker CPU - the 4K recording sometimes drops frames when other apps are running in the background. On the Galaxy S6 there is no SD card option, however I could attach an external storage over OTA and configure the app to record there. Works good.

Cinema 4K relies on the Camera2 API. This is quite new in Android and unfortunately not too many manufacturers implemented it on their phones. It also requires Lollipop (5.0) Android version. The Google Play Store automatically selects the available devices for download the app based on the OS. This might be the reason Note 3 is not listed. I will try to set this manually if possible.

Thanks for starting this forum and your valuable feedback. I am planning to add some new features in the future, but at the same same time I would like to keep the app as simple as possible and not to overload. The main idea is to get the maximum quality from the camera and later on you can edit it on PC/Mac environment.

    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Gabor

Awesome Gabor!!! What an impressive app amazing work!!!!!!! :d

I was able to successfully download and install Cinema 4k on my Note 3 here in the US but when I launched the app it said "device not supported" or something to that effect. tried it a couple times. do you think it would work ok on a Note 5, as it shares camera features with the S6?

    v cool work!!!!!

  5. Not all 5.1.1 ROMs support Camera2 API, which I presume this app uses. Many of the features you mentioned likely require the ROM to have that API implemented.

wish this would work on my note 3, lame :unamused:

i can upgrade my phone anytime, planning on a note 4 or 5, is the Camera2 API the dealbreaker here? ill search it out

Here is a new clip made by Cinema 4K app and Galaxy S6.

summer holiday video was sicc!!! are you the developer nokker??

  6. Comparing MLraw to compressed video colors is ridiculous because it has nothing to do with what canon gives you but what raw gives you.

it wasnt meant to be a direct comparison, but i acknowledge that i was unclear

to put a fine point on it, im just talking about their color science, which clearly bleeds over into, say, the 1dc, as andrew has written about at length. and i expect that mojo to trickle down to lower cost bodies in the future

additionally, that color science is very much a part of "what raw gives you" unless i am profoundly mistaken

  7. So It's been a few weeks since I've got my panasonic g6, I really love all the features of this camera like 50p, touchscreen, peaking, evf, tons od detail, almost no moire and aliasing and I think it's a huge upgrade over my past canon cameras ( I had a t2i and a 5d2 over the past years) but I still regret my purchase.

Maybe it's just because I'm new to this camera but I cannot achive the same feel that I had with my t2i, mostly I can't get the righ colors, everything looks more "digital" and also pdc it's a pain with my cheap f/1.8 - f/2.8 glasses...

I also have an old 5d (the first model) for shooting stills and I'm really tempted to sell it and buy something like a 7d just to have the ability to shoot canon like video, It's a really strange feeling because I started hating canon recently and that's why I jumped on the g6 :/

    am I the only one?

i did the exact same thing when the g6 came out. same experience, same reaction...

i told myself that i was just brainwashed by canon raw color because im so used to it....

thats nonsense. this is the color i want https://vimeo.com/groups/magiclanterncanon5diii who can beat that?

if you click thru the thumbnails of the videos in that group without even watching them you can STILL tell that the color is amazing~!

i expect canon to eventually release a 5d4c type of "video centric" slr, and it wont be cheap ($4-$5k?), and ill buy it. ill just pull out my credit card. ive stopped fighting it ?

  8. It's certainly no replacement for an FS7 either. The difference between Slog3/Slog2 10bit/8bit combination is very obvious when you start playing with footage and matching it up in the grade. If you need 100fps and have the budget to rent the FS7, then you should ;)

lol agree. and theyre actually super affordable to rent, at least here in socal

By playing with the Slog2 settings, I've got very pleasing skintones and colour - better than the A7S.

okay, THIS is what i am DYING to know about

please oliver, if you would be so kind, how different would you say color behavior is on these two different cameras, compared to each other? and how so? i believe andrew has mentioned that dynamic range in slog2 is very similar between the two, but what are your thoughts on the color and how it differs?

frankly im thinking about picking up a used a7s for cheap at the end of the year and im wondering how much the annoying/hard work im doing at the moment sussing out the best color i can with slog2 on my rx10m2 will translate over

  9. awesome!!!!! what a great review. andrew i love your writing style and this was filled with great information thats super useful to me and my new rx10m2 :relaxed:

i have owned a few cameras over the years (anybody remember this?) and the rx10m2 represents many firsts for me

its the first camera ive owned that i have ~any~ intention of shooting stills with that has a fixed lens, or a sensor smaller than +/- super35mm. if you wouldve told me three months ago that my next camera was going to have those characteristics i would have laughed

but when i realized that this brand new “bridge” cam could be a [relatively] inexpensive point of entry to shooting slog2 to see how much i like using it, i said why not~! because im very interested in the performance of the a7rii, and the upcoming a7sii, but im also interested in all the alternatives for the varied advantages they may provide.

anyway, some salient points which i personally appreciated:

    •  rx100iv magfilter, how interesting~! good to kno

    • calling the 1080p the best youve used for the money is a big compliment! and your simile about a small sensor fs7 is just the thought i had when i first starting shooting 120fps with it!!…. its like a lil baby fs7 with a small sensor that i have with me~! no ones bringing an fs7 anywhere because its fun to carry around lol

    • thanks for underscoring the 240fps being so good. i havent shot above 120 yet due to fear of quality loss and lack of time to experiment, but ill be sure to use it soon~! awesome  ?

    • re: low light, didnt know i could raise the iso for slog2 above 800 ? hadnt even tried ive been fighting with color in slog [a topic for another time, frowny face]. thanks for the heads up

    • agree the 4k isnt impressive per se, but its my first 4k camera so it is for me in all those ways lol. a world of possibilities. but yeah, the 1dc for example annihilates it in terms of resolving power. its like night and day

the continuous af in movie mode is so bizarrely awful that i couldnt figure out at first IF IT WAS ON OR NOT. when i realized it was i had to laugh ? such garbage. james may on lsd lol
    • "Too many 'cannot do this’ messages” ?

ok i think you get my point that i liked this weblog entry (tbh reading it at work was the most fun ive had all day smfh). also im sorry that i didnt make posts complaining about the wait for the second part of this article; ill try to bitch more in the future ;)

  10. for this technique you want less frames per second.  Shooting at 120fps means you will degrade image quality for no reason since each frame will be sharp, and low light benefits no longer apply.

for instance, 25p at 1/5th of a second confirms perfectly when sped up to 500% since the 1/5th shutter equates to 5 frames being exposed with one image.  hyperspeed by 500% smooths as if it were 25fps.

shooting 24p and 1/4 sec means you need to speed up by 600% to keep the perfect conformation.  1/4 x 600% = 1/24th sec or 360degree shutter.

this was shot on the humble NEX5n, more than 3 years ago at around 400iso i think.  imagine how clean the a7s would be when in this mode.

im with you rich, this is awesome btw. i just provided that specific info because shooter had messaged me multiple times lol

  11. Okay and what Sony models?

Kay Lee clicks like. I've asked her but no word if her RX10 M2 does the job... Any RX10 M2 owner to confirm it please?

    its kaylee one word lol

ok i checked: on my rx10m2 shutter goes down to 1/4sec for 24fps like rich said, BUT it only goes down to 1/120 in 120fps mode

  12. Has anyone had glitches when recording 100fps 1080P?

It only seems to happen within the first second of shooting, but it's like it misses a chunk of the middle vertical strip and stretches the remainder to compensate...

This is taking the 100fps MP4 into After Effects CS6, and interpreting it as 25.

Seems to do it when played via VLC as well though.

I've not seen it before today where I was shooting at a local comic con, card is a Lexar 64GB 1000x (150MB/Sec) Professional UHS-II SDXC Card, which is what I've been using before with no problems.

I've attached a rendered clip from after effects, but the source seems to have the same glitch.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    C0002.mp4

steve, i downloaded your file and that is undoubtedly an appalling aberration. fwiw i havent come across anything like that with my rx10m2 shooting 120fps 100mbs, but thats the only mode besides 4k that ive spent some quality time shooting. id definitely be interested in knowing what the disconnect is here

  13. Which Hoya NDs did you have? Their ProND line is very good. But their others, not so much. If you want a variable ND, I've have very good experiences with SLR Magic's. In this video I compared it to the Tiffen VariND.

wow thanks zak. i just started researching *variable* nds and i was looking into the slr magic for my rx10m2, do you think i would have any trouble using it with a 62-77mm step up ring? like i said ive just started investigating all this but ive already run into the weirdness of an "X" pattern at higher densities which can be exacerbated (?) by having the nd ~over~ another filter or whatever......

    video was so helpful!!!! ?
