I'm an owner of an EM10III and 3 lenses, but typically only use one (manual prime) ...and I make films all the time, so my perspective is that almost all this gear on the market pretty much works great if you know what you want and how to get it.

Well here's my first use of the S5.
Neutral profile, no tweaks to any in camera settings, SOOC, 4k 50p shot in shutter priority 1/100 with the 20-60mm kit lens.
Clips imported into Premiere and only adjustments have been to the speed which is 50% for the visuals.

...and a few days later, I'm keeping it after all.
In fact, a pair of them are going to be my main workhorses as I intended.
I have been trying to find a workaround and not just a 'kidding myself' fix, but something genuine.
I looked at both the HC-X1500 camcorder and the bridge camera (for my static manual and occasional but important AF needs) but just know that based on my current 1" sensor Sony camcorder, the footage is going to be shite. And it's still contrast detect, so nah.
Back on to the stage comes a used XT3 body and I already have a Fringer and 17-50mm f2.8 Sigma so for all my static manual focus needs, et voila and for the 1 minute or so on each job when I also need AF, et voila encore.
As I may have said before, I love this camera (the S5) in every way except the weird pulsing in AF mode but otherwise there is something just 'right' about it. That combo of size, weight, ergos, dials, buttons, operation and of course quality of both video and stills files.
Just need some projects to use the bugger on now...

@ade towell Actually Lumix S5 is a real winner. When I tested the 8bit codecs of the S1, there was no mushyness whatsoever at high isos in extreme low (no) light situations. a few tiny Artefacts became visible in the shadows at no light. Interesting enough the super slim 75mbit h265 codec had grain in these situations, on the contrary it breaks apart on evenly and well lit plain surfaces. So I have been super impressed. Still don´t have the Vlog update, because I dont know if Panasonic will give it to us for free very soon. Would be a bit of wasted 200 USD then. S1, no mushyness in the shadows in no light situations, but grain. "No light" what a term for photography.:)
S5 with Vlog has now been tested and it is performing the best compared to R5,6, A7siii, the latter one the worst. S5 is an image quality monster. Hard to believe they did it. Cinema quality in a 150mbit codec. Panasonic needs to promote it better. They can ask me being an ambassador. Here I come @andy lee :)

I couldn't find it last night and was beginning to wonder if I had imagined it but I found it this morning. My memory was just a little off on his settings, speed is -3 and sensitivity +2.
The AF part starts around 8:50. And at 13:25 there's a short docu thing that he shoots with all AF.

What AF settings are you using? I watched one video where the guy got good results with sensitivity at +3 and speed at -2 or something like that.

    Panasonic...please.
Arguably some of the best video orientated features in the business: menu, on screen info, custom mode buttons, IBIS, full v-log, with updated colors, robust anamorphic support and modes, decent wireless phone app, one of the best images in the game, balanced and non-compromised codec options, great handling and ergonomics with lots of custom buttons and very practical dedicated ones (WB, EC, ISO), robustly built, practical camera bodies.
It’s all let down by the AF. All the hard work in all those other areas...completely destroyed by the AF. Unsold cameras because of the AF.
The reason I’m hesitant to give you anymore money, and I’m sure I’m not along, is the pulsing AF. The tracking is much improved, great! Awesome step forward. DfD can work in some situations in a pinch and a few reshoots. But, I’m not going to drop $4000, $5000, $6000 on a system with shitty AF in 2020 and beyond. Not with so many other good choices. It just doesn’t make sense anymore. AF is now very, very useful and reliable (On Sony and Canon anyway) for 90% of what people want and MF is only a tiny switch flick away for that other 10%. The market has shifted. Your competitors now have 10-bit log with good color. AF in all modes including 4K120p slow motion and above.
    It’s time.
I’m a huge Panasonic and MFT fanboy but you gotta do something different or your cameras will go unsold and your L-mount will fail. And that will, with all honesty and sincerity, be a sad day.

    Kaboom, it's arrived!
Sorry, no YouTube unboxing video or reading of spec list, just an initial impression whilst the battery is charging.
I've come from 8-9 years of Fuji as my main cameras with some dabbling in 1" Sony and M4/3 Panasonic but have otherwise never owned a full frame mirrorless before.
I had Nikon DSLR prior to Fuji for stills with a D7000 for filming...but things have moved on since 2010!
First of all, it feels superb in the hand. In terms of size for handling and my use, just about perfect.
Weight, perfect and I currently have the 20-60mm 'kit' lens attached I bought it with which will become my personal travel lens and my stills work wide angle.
Build quality. Well all my old gear has now been sold but I'd say it's all a step up from Fuji and I had no complaints about that, but the build and finish are superb and the way the dials click and operate etc.
Next up, some stills and video tests to get a feel for how it all works etc and that all important AF test..., but so far, it's all looking good!

No, I need not, we need not. This is exactly the moral of the story, for me at least.
Market economy is the best democracy, I decide who I support with my money. I can not support companies, which tries to sell their products with misleading information and incorrect promises.
I wanted to upgrade this year but don't know how this pandemic continues. I am affraid, I don1t need new equipment for jobs and I couldn1t really pay it either. Even if everything was OK with the R5, I would think twice about spending 4000+ for the body and the same on lense, as I don't need 8K at all. Sony has some good cameras and all the lenses for them, what Nikon unfortunately is missing, Panasonic's new little model looks promising, Fuji might surprise us with the X-H2....
I have just seen Matt Granger selling all his old gear but not buying anything, just awating which systems offers most when we can really word again.

Thomas Hill reacted to Dave Maze in Olympus announces new firmware development to allow RAW video on the E-M1X and E-M1III
I still have an em1mkiii and the three Pro prime lenses. It’s a buggy camera and I’ve had issues with it locking up on me. I’ve stopped using it for that reason. Hopefully firmware will solve those issues. I think Panasonic made a bad move going to full frame. They should have just embraced m43 and dominated the space and that in turn would help boost Olympus. With cameras like the XT3 being only $999 now I don’t see a point in the Oly anymore. The ibis and colors are great but low light is bad and video features are lackluster. Maybe we will see some firmware updates that will add more video features... but for the price... I don’t see why anyone would go for the EM1 anymore. Not to mention the EM1X. That camera is way too expensive.
I don’t know... just my thoughts. Loved Olympus for a while. Still love them... but it’s starting to seem a little outdated at this point.

The sigma fp is more appealing/intriguing and a straight competition. I really like small form factors and once Panasonic s5 and this are available and compared, they are going to fight to be my next personal camera.

For the world's smallest full frame stills camera it has very good video capabilities.
And for a full frame RAW shooting video camera it has very good stills capabilities.
Its not the very best stills camera that I've got and its not the very best video camera that I've got but if you told me it was the only camera that I could have then I wouldn't cry myself to sleep about that by any means.
If you accept the obvious like no EVF, no IBIS, less than stellar AF and look on it as being an interchangeable lens version of the original Sony RX1 but with a 4K full frame version of the original BMPCC available at a flick of the mode switch then a good time can be had by all.
I've been using it with cheap compact M primes like this 7Artisans 35mm f2 in these shots to keep it small and it is another thing to bear in mind that it can get a bit unbalanced with the larger L mount lenses, though not the 45mm f2.8.

You have had the camera for a year. That's a fairly long time when it comes to tech but, your camera is just as good as when you bought it. It's still a great camera. You have either made your money back on that S1 over the last year and if you haven't......then the S1 is still better than what you really need and will still serve you well. I know a few ACS (Australia) accredited DP's who still shoot on FS7's despite better cameras coming along since it's release many years ago.
Oh, and full articulation screen is only an advantage if you are a Vlogger. Personally, I hate fully articulating screens. If you ARE a Vlogger, don't stress, the S1 is still more than up to the job.
Established DP's don't just run out and always buy the latest and greatest and neither should you. Nor should you feel like you've been conned.
I really don't understand why many are always chasing the latest and greatest when what they have still does the job perfectly. The S1 is still great!
People making a living from cameras are NOT upgrading or changing systems every year!
    Invest in lenses!

I'm just saying that the S5 really isn't that much better. Everyone is talking like its this huge upgrade that somehow makes the s1 obsolete.
While the S1 with VLOG goes for around $1600 like new.
The s5 might be $2000 and if so, technically what are you losing for $400 less? 4k 60 10bit? a couple different aspect ratios? maybe marginally better AF?
But what does the S1 have over the S5? Better build, better EVF, Better battery life, full HDMI out.
I guess it's a no brainer if you prefer smaller cameras, in that case the S5 is 100% a better choice. But what if you like big cameras?
Honestly the S1 and s5 seem like comparable cameras made for different shooting styles.
Most retailers include the VLOG upgrade for free now anyway.
I'm not in the market to buy another S1 because I already have one, I might potentially replace my a6300 with the S5 as my gimbal cam if the price is good.
I'm only saying this because I noticed a lot of people saying the S1 in kind of pointless now, but really I don't think it is. Now if the S5 is like $1600 then yeah I think the S1 will sorta be pointless.
