G9 has a super nice S16 mode like the GH5 and it's a classic I would love to try. Maybe sell all my stuff except my BMs and F3 and get a G9 for a good price. Though the EM1II is a pretty camera!

I would add that - and this is just personal - if you could live with the wonky autofocus, then I would probably go for an original G9 over the E-M1 II. I really like 10-bit video, and 4K 60p is nice. Also, I find the menus on the E-M1 MK II a bit baffling. But that's just me.

I haven't used the G-series of cameras from panasonic, so I can't compare directly. But I do have an E-M1 MK II with a version 3.0 firmware on it (which allows for phase-detect AF in video mode).
It is pretty good. Handling is nice. IBIS is great and rather simple to use.
I basically loan it to my son for his school video projects and he often has another student (who has never used a real camera before) use it to film him, and they are able to generate in-focus, steady footage (despite the fact that they have little to no technical training, nor any artistic training).
For being an 8-bit m43 camera in 2024, it is pretty good. I've used it as a C Camera with my Panasonic full frame S1 and S5 cameras, and while it is hard to match the Oly to the Panasonics, it is pretty easy to match the Panasnics to the Olyumpus (as long as you are shooting in 10-bit V-LOG on the Panasonic bodies).
    Hope this helps.

Back then I used a Hlg to Vlog conversion lut from Sage who created the emotive luts for arri color and rolloff for Vlog and went on from there. I really liked how Hlg responded in Grading, both on the GH5 and the S1.

If you're doing the colour grade yourself then here's my advice:
If it looks good, it is good (and it doesn't really matter how you got there) If you're not sure what a setting does, and it doesn't make the image clearly better, then probably just leave it at whatever the default was That's literally it.
As you gradually get better you'll build up a sense of what tools make what situations look better, and you'll get that from trial and error / reading forums / watching tutorials / etc, but as soon as you start using the word "should" a lot then you need to go back to the first bullet point above - if it looks good then it is good.
The goal of the tech is to learn it enough to start thinking about other more creative aspects.

I really enjoyed your material and quality you achieved as a dp. The editing imo does not show that to the fullest potential. Editing reels is a pretty thing and art by itself, of course. Your cinematography still shines through. @PPNS

Anyone really loving the colour they are getting from their S line cameras? I liked the results filming in HLG better than in VLog, which I got after grading.

Yeah, the sponsorship would have meant the default app and the anaemic codec.  I don't know if this one supports RAW, but that would have been the ultimate choice.

Cool film, only let down by the poor codec and lack of ND.  I understand why you'd want to have a sponsor and why you'd want to tell a story with a phone in comparison to not telling it at all, but if you had freedom to choose and you were already getting a bunch of people on set and putting all that time and effort into something and then a phone sure isn't my first choice.
Same comments as above, but you can definitely see the stronger codec in this piece compared to the Xaiomi.

haha blame these "fantastic" AI-like tools of today! I wanted to click to let it expressed a 'big thanks like' as not so rare about something coming from yours or @kye or@mercer among some other favs of mine and the damned button on my touchscreen went to some 'confused like' instead... and "they" even call it intelligent world we all live in nowadays where machines click on our behalf if we don't stand corrected them as next follow-up ; ) sorta policeman 24/24 : P
Let the machines rule over our heads and we will see all where we'll end : X

What's the flash syc port connector that you use? Looking that part up on Aliexpress might find a cheap cable for you for a just a few bucks

PannySVHS reacted to Mark Romero 2 in Panasonic S5 II (What does Panasonic have up their sleeve?)
Well... it definitely has time code support of some kind, but I think it is more similar to the S5 (original, and possibly the S5 II / X are similar).
I can't confirm either way about getting timecode though the flash sync port since I didn't get a BNC-to-flash-port adapter :(
However, with firmware 2.1 on my S1, there is no "External Timecode Settings" menu available (while the S1H has that option), so there is no way to set a TC Syncronization, as far as I can tell, through the menu.
I'll try looking in to it a bit more later on. But I think that we just are stuck recording audio timecode to the left channel and then converting to metadata in Resolve. (Suck it, Premiere Pro users!!!)
Unrelated Rant: Wish there was an easy way to store those flash sync port covers when you remove them.

Just in terms of TC. About other differences I have been writing in this thread pretty extensively myself. 😂
F.i. did you know the S1H has a true S35 mode besides the Apsc one, whereas the S1 has only the latter? 🙂

Short film directed and written by Jessica Yu-Li Henwick who has starred in various big budget productions for cinema and tv, such as "Game of Thrones" or "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery". She is also acting in the leading role. The film was shot pretty barebones on a Xiaomi 11 with a gimbal being put to use.
Here is a very cool interview, talking about finding the right DP, why she shot on a phone and requirements to film without extra lenses or big accessories. Also about scheduling and preparing the shoot while being on set starring in "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" and where she drew inspiration from for her film.
Great interview and insight about the filmmaker, her film and her process. I really enjoyed film, cinematography and image quality as well. The other film above my post looks equally appealing to me btw. So here are the article and interview with Jessica Yu-Li Henwick:

Thanks for making the connection. Pretty cool! She’s great. I got emotional at Little Garlic shot on iPhone - so well done! If I’m being for weddings etc I probably wouldn’t default to the iPhone. But as a non paid enthusiast it’s quite the tool. It’s probably going to be my next platform. I’d love the a6700 form factor but even when I had the xt4 the size of the footprint between lense and body wasn’t convenient for casual use with friends family or travel. It would take too much to be in the moment. I still have the Ricoh Giiix and will compare it to the iPhone 15 when I grab one.

Just waiting on an ND solution so I can use a quality VND.
