This design is amazing. But I would like to have a bigger sensor in it. Maybe one day canon will have the good idea using the c300 mark 2 sensor on this design with a 24 to 70mm fixed lens with a constant aperture of 2.8. Thats a camera I would like to have. Tiny with DPAF and true 4k.

the old way was to put your grain on a video layer above the clip and set its blend or composite mode to "overlay" and then to use a contrast filter on the grain layer to dial in the intensity.

I was thinking the other night, the 1DXII is unique right now. Nothing can do what it can at the moment : 1.3x sensor with Canon color, 4k with no overheating and autofocus (and that excludes the 4k 60fps and 120fps 1080p)
C300 II - crop sensor, large size
    c100 II - 1080p
    5div - 1.7x crop
1DC - no autofocus, no slow mo
A7sII - FF but sony colors, 4k overheating
    a6300 - sony colors, 4k overheating
    nx1 - crop, funny colors
    gh4 - crop, autofocus

Now there are lots of things to like about every one of those cameras. They are all fantastic really, but the 1DXII has an edge in several areas along with some downsides, but aside from the massive file sizes I'm happy with this thing.

I wonder if many people know who that is. His name is Fulgencio Batista, one of the many US-backed dictators of the world. Here is the wiki article for more information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulgencio_Batista. I urge you to read it, it will not take more than 5 minutes of your time.
If you don't then I will just include three quotes from your past president JFK:
"At the beginning of 1959 United States companies owned about 40 percent of the Cuban sugar lands—almost all the cattle ranches—90 percent of the mines and mineral concessions—80 percent of the utilities—practically all the oil industry—and supplied two-thirds of Cuba's imports".
"Fulgencio Batista murdered 20,000 Cubans in seven years ... and he turned Democratic Cuba into a complete police state—destroying every individual liberty. Yet our aid to his regime, and the ineptness of our policies, enabled Batista to invoke the name of the United States in support of his reign of terror. Administration spokesmen publicly praised Batista—hailed him as a staunch ally and a good friend—at a time when Batista was murdering thousands, destroying the last vestiges of freedom, and stealing hundreds of millions of dollars from the Cuban people, and we failed to press for free elections"
"Batista's rule was one of the most bloody and repressive dictatorships in the long history of Latin American repression""
Fidel was an attorney who had run for parliament in 1952 elections that Batista canceled with yet another coup. When Batista felt he had made his fortune he fled Cuba with it, and after years of struggle Fidel and his army took charge.
    Guess what happened after that.
The bay of pigs invasion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bay_of_Pigs_Invasion).
I bet this will make a much more interesting story that can educate people and help them elect wiser Presidents.
P.S. Oliver Stone has two documentaries about Fidel Castro that are worth watching. Also Oliver Stone's "Untold history of US" is a great doc series to watch.

    I am Syrian.

    I am Antiochian Orthodox Christian.

I come from a place in Syria called Wadi al Nasara (known in English as the "Valley of the Christians").

I come from a village called "Safita" - about two-hours north of Damascus. I currently reside in Sydney Australia. 99% of my family remains in Syria.

If you are not Syrian, if you have not lived in Syria, if you don't have all your family and friends in Syria, please do not pretend to know about Syria, or talk on behalf of Syria.

I have lost many family and friends in the past few years. All at the hands of the US and NATO's so-called "moderate rebels". The youngest was two-years old - killed, along with her mother, whom was attempting to rock her to sleep, by a "moderate rebel" sniper. Why? Because she was unfortunate enough to be punished and killed for no other reason other than for being born a Syrian Christian.

The Western-backed "democracy loving rebels" destroyed our towns. They desecrated and burnt our churches. They beheaded our priests (two from the village next to mine).

I am doing my absolute best to control myself as I write this. I keep telling myself to back-track. Delete the post entirely. In all serious, what is it going to change? What is going to happen other than having myself, my background, my history, exposed? It will most likely be in vain - most people have been manipulated by Western media for years. My hope is that perhaps one mind could be changed. If that. Regardless, I am absolutely fed up with this diatribe and propaganda that is purported and spurred on by Western exceptionalism at the behest of US/NATO hegemony.

Obama. Clinton. Merkel. Erdogan. All these NATO war-mongers, and their partners in the Gulf, namely Saudi Arabia and Qatar, have armed, trained, and funded these Salafi and Wahhabi proxies militias against us. I blame them personally for this. I blame them for all the family and friends that I have lost.

What's worse, Western media would have you believe that was is happening in Syria is all in the name of "democracy" - that it was some "popular uprising" - when anyone that is Syrian, or has lived in Syria, especially during the war, knows that that is complete rubbish. Regardless, the idea that the West wants democracy anywhere is a joke. Only political romantics that do not understand geo-politics, Western hegemony and realpolitik fall for this.

The West wants democracy in Syria, huh? Even though they partner, arm and train the two most undermocratic governments and armies on Earth - Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Give me a f**king break.
I don't care for Trump. I don't like Trump. I don't have hope for his administration. Personally, I supported Jill Stien. Regardless, anyone that thinks Clinton would have been any better is deluded and ill-educated on her neo-con and neo-liberal history and agenda.

You know what - I'll tell you the real "cruel irony" - the one BBC, CNN, and the rest of the faux news wont tell you - that people who support LGBT rights and women's rights, the people that are against crony capitalism and corruption, the people that are against war, are the same people supporting and protesting for Hillary Clinton - a woman funded by Saudi Arabia and Wall St cronies - whom are the absolute antithesis of everything those people stand for - that is the f**king cruel irony.

And this whole anti-Russian sentiment has reached ridiculous proportions. You know, I got off the phone with my Dad in Syria the other day. He said to me; "If Russia dies, we all die."
If you were a Syrian Christian, or a Syrian that supports secularism, you would know what that means without even needing explanation.

Russia is the only reason Syria hasn't fallen to the proxy armies and militias of NATO and Saudi Arabia. If if wasn't for Russia, there wouldn't be a single Syrian Christian/secular Syrian, left alive.

People want to keep playing this anti-Russia card, fine. Keep believing the same bulls**t media and governments that sold you the Iraq WMD lie. Or the photo-op phony NGO groups like "White Helmets", et al.

    Real Syrians know the truth.

Is it better the A7SII or the 1Dx II? It depends and some will find one better than the other but commenting on something that you don’t know and never used is not a good idea. Andrew was very against the 1DxII and now has one and he likes it, Philip Bloom was also skeptic and now has one and he really like it and so on…
Currently the 1dx II is the only DSLR/Mirrorless class camera to do 4k 60p 4:2:2 and with an extremely good video AF. It may or may not matter for you but for someone like me it is a life saver. Will the next Sony have the same or better spec probably yes but is not there yet.
Now to some nonsense that you have written:
Like the needs of a 5000 usd PC to edit 4k MJPEG files or “shit” as you call it.... does it comes from your experience of every day working with this files right? Because I do it almost every day and I can tell you that 4k 30p is doable in realtime in Resolve with a 1500 usd notebook and a 2000 usd PC can do real-time 4k 60p editing and grading with no transcoding or proxy.
I have already posted here the discussion around formats:
Anyway if you want high quality files be ready to have high bitrates… DJI new 4/3 camera has the minimum bitrate at 4k 30p in prores at 900 Mbits per seconds! Blackmagic at 492 Mbits 4k 25p in prores, C700 XF AVC is 440 Mbits at 4k 30p. Pro people are used to these size and RAW is even on another leauge.
Stabilizing what you call dinosaurs is super easy, just use one of the most popular gimbals from a Ronin M/MX, Letus Helix Jr or any Movi. I use every week the 1DX II on a Ronin M and I can shoot while moving even on rollerblades with a 50mm at F1.2 without a focus puller as one man band, do it with your super light Sony if you can. Is it worth the 3000 usd more than the Sony? For some people yes for some no. For some it will generate more money so they can buy a better car from some other is too much and they will buy a crappy car with the 3000 saved.
The latest scoop is that Canon will drop the EF mount from their camera because the lens selection is too week and nobody in the industry is adopting the EF mount. In fact Red, Canon C series, Panasonic and Balackmagic have all agreed to not offer the EF mount on their top of the line cinema cameras anymore and to offer the Sony one instead:-)
Canon and Sony move at different pace and both innovate and stagnate. Canon was the first to introduce a good HD video with the 5DII, the first to do 4k in a DSLR the first to do 4k 60p 4:2:2 in a DSLR and the first to make autofocus really work for video. So yes is a dinosaur but it moves well just not at your wished price.
At the end I wonder why people criticize so much cameras that they never have used?
Again is the 1dx II better than the A7SII? In some area yes and some not and for some people some aspects are more important than others. Even a Gopro  can be better than an Alexa in some aspects. But please do not misinform people about something that you don’t use regularly or even worst not even have touch in your life.

Yeah. And it seams it will keep going up. But maybe we are also near a big crash, so who knows? I for sure wouldn't buy now. I think in this times in the industry of prosumer cameras the best is to buy second hand, the depreciation of tech is hugely fast. You can buy a camera 8 months after the release and pay half or less.

    @Mattias Burling
I think, you are right...Because the DSLR/DSLM filming enthusiasts like many people in this forum are a MINORITY. But all of us think, filming features are the most important for camera manufacturers. I am convinced, this is NOT. It's only the most important thing for dedicated film camera manufacturers. For hybrid/still devices manufacturers, there are much more (economical and strategic) aspects to consider than the expectations of a minority.
How many normal Joes have the knowledge and hardware possibilities for 4K editing and post production? How many enthusiasts have the budget to handle and store huge RAW or 1DXmk2 files? I think, we underestimate the real existing world out there. Rock solid 1080p with a nice codec and a moderate bitrate (= for "normal" PCs / Mac, round about 50 MB/s) could be better for the future of filming enthusiasts than a handful "freaks" not representing the bright consumer world at all...And that's mass business, big manufacturers like Canon, Sony, Nikon, etc. are interested in...

I wish Sony could be that honest. He says "Lets be honest, the camera cant do it".
Instead Sony releases god awful Log and 4K in cameras that cant even handle it. I remember my first 4K Sony which was a smartphone and a sign comes up saying "The device will over heat after a little while"..... what??? Then why did you include it?
And then they do the same in their real camera.. that costs thousands of dollars... wtf is up with that?
Thank god Panasonic are smart enough to keep the specs down to a somewhat functional level. So does Canikon.
I would hate for it to be the norm among manufacturers to release cameras with 100 features and the caveat of only 12 actually working.

And as mentioned so many times before. That's why Canikon takes it slow, like Apple to name another example.
They release stuff that works and works very well instead of a bunch of empty promises.
(BTW, the smartphone was the same phone that according to Sony was "waterproof". Not water resistant but "Waterproof".
And they encouraged you to use it for under water photos... yea bad idea.
It leaked and Sony gave no explanation, they just stopped marketing it as waterproof.)

If it has the same bitrate as the 80D and comes in at less than a grand, the M5 will probably replace my GX85. And if the 5-Axis is as good as it is on the XC10, it definitely will. With a speedbooster, it will be a 5-Axis FF pocketable monster. Would have liked to have seen 4K, but the 1080p from the 80D looks as good as 4K downscaled from the GX85, so who cares about 4K. I'll save transcoding time.
It's probably their version of Panasonic's Hybrid. So maybe a crop.

No. I'm talking about the away motion is rendered. I'm not talking about RS, but about a very subtle jitter. It occurs also when panning or when fast objects pass across the frame. But I'm not talking about RS. it's more like there would be a drop frame, but less evident.

Maybe it's subjective. I used a gh4 and a gx80/85 and the motion feels different to me there is some kind of a subtle jitter at 24 and 25 fps. Never tried at 30fps. But the way it renders motions is different and in my opinion not so good.

Wrong, technically ef-s lenses are only made by canon, they have a longer plastic bit at the end. Third party lenses like the Sigma's mentioned above will go on any full frame EF camera just fine , even if they're only designed to cover aps-c, they still feature the regular EF lens mount.

Maybe. But some people like the form factor of a DSLR for video. It's smaller, less intimidating, it's built like a tank, it's weather sealed, it's full frame, you can use it around your neck, and yes sometimes you can take a photo with it. You can't carry your c300 around your neck and look casual.

Doesn't seem like a Canon thing to do? What 2 different sensors do you see there?
I see one new sensor, and another reused sensor, same old 18MP FF from the 1DX/1DC (mark 1).
Did you forget that Canon is the King of the three Rs? Recycle, reuse and reduce (except the price and different types of models)?
Remember the old 18MP APS-C sensors? How many different kinds of cameras had that sensor?
If Canon goes down that path to have 3 to 4 different models of the 5D body (I still count the 5DS/5DSR as being part of this equation), like what Sony did with the Alpha bodies, why not have the same old 18MP to develop a 5DC?
