Just saw this short now.

"I didn't saw Roma" and I can't tell much by the trailer but it certainly doesn't look like one more marvel movie.
I understand your division between bad Hollywood and good Hollywood, but it's still Hollywood and it's still mainstream and profoundly ideological. Três amigos operate in Hollywood, money comes from Hollywood and the films they produce follow Hollywood classic models of storytelling. Yes, they are more inventive, than most of the other crap Hollywood produces, but I wouldn't call it disruptive, they don't add much to the medium itself. It's all a bit primary and basic, it lacks courage and poetry. The ideas are repetitive, and always placing the spectator in a passive point of view, pleasing the spectator, because they have to sell. And it's alright as long as there is a place for the other side. For the one who is not looking to please you, the ones that don't want your emotional investment, who are willing to make you think instead of just convincing you. Having said that Hollywood it's a big industry and produces great movies and directors.
I agree with you that Cannes is an amusement park full of directors and producers looking for distributors and vice versa, most festivals are. And competition in cinema is something I can't really understand and find it profoundly perverse. But I think that Cannes was far more interesting this year than last year when it comes to new directors and showing very different movies from what is usually shown. and again it wasn't a Cannes decision but a matter of law. Actually, Cannes was trying everything to have Netflix movies at the festival.
There were at least Lars Von Trier movie and Spike Lee English spoken movies. But there were great movies far more inventive than any movie I've ever seen from Cuaron, Inarritu or Del Toro. Did you saw Diamantino that won la semaine de la critique or Chuva é cantoria na aldeia dos mortos or Lazzarro felice or Dogman or Ayka or Une affair de famille? All great, and with a different idea from what cinema can be or should be. I think it's at least refreshing to see these movies in a big festival. Hollywood tends to see cinema just as a medium to tell a story, but cinema can be much more than just this.
That's right! It's all about the money.
But if you had the possibility wouldn't you prefer to go to a movie theater?

It's a bit more complex than that. Cannes didn't ban Netflix. There is a law in France that forbids any festival that takes place in France to exhibit a film in a festival that after doesn't have an agreement of release in movie theaters in France. It's simply obligatory. I partially agree that movies are to be seen in a cinema theater, but that's another conversation. Now, in fact, there was something rather good and refreshing about Cannes banning Netflix films because it gave room to other young directors. Who otherwise wouldn't have the possibility to be in. Don't get me wrong I think these platforms are great, but I don't see why isn't possible to have bought. A release in a cinema theater and then after a while in Netflix. I think most directors would agree that they would like there work to be seen in a cinema theater. I think Netflix is being a bit greedy, wanting all the profits just for them. And if you think about it might lead to a monopoly, that might have bad consequences for the art itself. And correct me if i'm wrong but aren't Cuaron, Inarritu and Del Toro Hollywood directors? I think Cuaron only did y tu mamma tambien outside of hollywood, didn't he?

Tiago Rosa-Rosso reacted to Mattias Burling in Can we all just have a big f***ing laugh about this...
I don't see any apologies. I just see people that accept reality for what it is and how they will deal with it. I still don't understand why this is happening.
Why is this entire forum up in flames over a bunch of newly announced, awesome, in their own ways, cameras?
Why do we as a group choose to use the occasion for constant wining, competing, measure penises, attack and ridicule those who dont think exactly like us?
Why aren't we discussing what these new things will add to this community?
Why does everyone go to bash in the thread of their least favorite instead of having a pleasant conversation in the thread about the one that is their favorite?
Positive posts seems to always end up in a thread about other stuff, just as flame instead of where it belongs.
3 new major announcements within a week or so + more to come = The most negative atmosphere ever on a camera forum = Psychotic
I remember when NAB, Photokina, etc made forums a fun place.

It’s funny the last time me and the girlfriend watched a movie... she mentioned that she couldn’t really follow the story because they were shooting with a 45mm lens instead of a 28mm.

I understand what you mean, but in my case no. I rarely use 4k, most of the time I shoot fullhd and then scale it up to 2k flatscope. I tend to dislike the oversharp look of 4k, and it takes a lot of space. Also most of the time I use a focal lengths between 30mm to 70mm. So for me this camera and lens it's actually great. Good color science, good ergonomics, nice menus and easy to use. Of course, it would be nice to have 10bit and clog but 8 bit 4.2.0 and cinestyle also does the job for me, and it's more changeling since you really have to nail it when you are shooting. No miracles in post with 8-bit.

Tiago Rosa-Rosso reacted to Trek of Joy in Samsung eying return to camera market as Galaxy smartphone shipments fall
This one is worth an eye roll.
Another clickbait headline with a leap of logic that makes no sense, and runs contrary to everything Samsung has done since whacking the NX line. The smartphone market as a whole has plateaued in the last couple years due to a number of factors including market saturation, no growth in China, people holding phones longer, little innovation year-to-year, more competition from smaller companies like Huawei and so on. Last year was the first with no year-over-year growth, this year is forecasted to be flat as well. Are they really going to tie up sensor production for a small piece of a shrinking pie or are they going where there's growth - like automotive, security and industrial? All of their reports say they're focused on growth areas and mobile. Samsung still sold 310 million phones last year while making a tidy profit and half the worlds population lives in places with much lower market penetration like India, Africa and Latin America - compared to areas of high saturation like the US, China, Europe and the rest of Asia. 5g may spark another boom, but it won't be widely available until 2020.
25% of the total camera market is only about 3 million units at 2017 sales levels - and 5 years from now that will be much lower as compacts (half of least years dismal numbers) continue to evaporate. It would take them years to gain any meaningful market share. Even if they released a new APS-c sensor today, it would be a couple years before they could even get into a single camera. They're smartly hedging their bets by boosting sensor production capacity with the stated goal of toppling Sony as the #1 manufacturer, but its not for large sensor cameras.

Tiago Rosa-Rosso got a reaction from andrgl in Fast apertures on the GH5 = Full frame
This is what I mean by depth: if you would film this with a smaller sensor and place the camera in the exact same place and try to have the same frame you would have to use a different lens, maybe a 1000mm, then the plane wouldn't look so close to the actors.

I don't agree at all.
Its not about DOF. Its about distortion and compression.
FF is not just about DOF and all m4/3 users should understand how optics affect the image .You can't get a 50mm look in a m4/3 with a 25mm. You can however buy a speed booster, use FF lenses to get an approximated look...

There are some differences that you might not spot on this shots but you might in other situations. One it's how apart objects are from one another in depth. A 17.5mm makes the space wider, this is almost not noticeable in many cases but for example when you are filming a dialog between two actors the distance in depth between then will be different and this will convey another mood to the scene. Also, a 17mm will in most cases have more distortion especially when you are close to the lens, and also focus will be easier on the 35mm 2.0 than on a 17.5 at 0.95 .

Well here is a trick question to you guys, because I think not everything that has been stated here from the beginning is true.
When talking about final aperture on a lense, you have to include the fact of which format the lens was originally made for.
Does a full frame lense of 35mm 2.8 change its aperture when you adapt it with a simple adapter (no speedbooster) to m43? No it doesn't, it will still act like a like 35mm 2.8 lens.
And there is proof for that! If you adapt manual lenses the IBIS of the Panasonic m43 lenses only works smoothly when you set it to 35mm.
Applying the crop factor is not as simple as stated in this article and by most of people. Watch this video as proof.

Tiago Rosa-Rosso reacted to Kisaha in Canon M50 mirrorless camera features 4K video
I didn't know where to post this, not worth another thread, but there are a lot of rumors about a XC15/XC20 with an EF mount, this is a very interesting patent here of a hybrid camera, seemingly targeted on video first (that would be a first for a hybrid).
https://www.canonnews.com/first-hint-at-a-hybrid-video-stills-ilc-camera
While everyone talks about an EF mount, my guess is that it can possibly has an EF-M mount, and that would be very interesting, indeed! I am sure @mercer could appreciate such camera, and probably a lot of buyers world wide.

An XC with an EF-M mount/APSC sensor would be indeed very good. I am sure it is going to cost at least as much as the XC15 but it will still be a great seller. A mini C line.
