benymypony got a reaction from Trek of Joy in Pack of original LUTs made by myself
    Dear EOSHD community,
I am an independent french graphic designer and I regularly work in photo and video.
Over the years, I created a collection of 3D LUT files to ease the color grading of my projects.
Recently I created a pack with my 38 original LUTs.
They are profiled on high-resolution color matrix and were built to preserve skin tones as best as possible.
I had the chance to work with many different cameras and I spent a lot of time creating these looks and testing on raw footages, from 5DMKII and 7D with Magic Lantern, GH4, A7S, BMPC 4K, and stills from RED EPIC.
About HDSLR, these LUTs are calibrated on CineStyle/Cinelike profiles.
Also in my pack is included a LUT to properly « flat » a footage and get a good working basis before grading.
Website for more infos : http://luts.iwltbap.com
Instagram with short video samples : https://instagram.com/luts
At the end of this post you will find some sample images before-after.
My LUTs pack is for sale $20, but I created a discount code of -25% for EOSHD community.
So you can get it for $15 instead of $20 via : https://sellfy.com/p/Ainy/-EOSHD
My pack is regularly updated with new LUTs and all updates are free.
On my website you can download a free LUT with the famous teal-orange look.
Also, I offer for free a 4K film grain based on 35mm film scans (10sec video encoded in Apple ProRes 422 at 25fps).
Hope you will like my LUTs.
    Best,
    Benjamin

I've received exclusive info from a trusted source to exactly what this new gizmo does:
    1. VR, Holographic, 3D and some other cool sounding stuff that actually does sound cool but we have to use our imagination into exactly how it will work.
    2. New Module - RED Car Control. Simply control your actual car in a VR Google map. Pretend it has guns to shoot other cars in your way. (Bluetooth and Cruise Control vehicles only).
    3. New Module - RED Nightmare Grenade. Record and play your worst nightmares in REDs r3d codec at up to 8k 120fps and share your experience online in VR.
    4. New Module - RED Weapon Tank. Convert your RED Weapon into a tank so you can film it blow up stuff at 1000fps.
    5. New Module - RED Blast Radius. Use your Hydrogen radar module to identify Google, Apple and Samsung phones around you. Detonate them with a single touch.
    6. New Module - RED Interrogator. Use your phone's A.I assistant (like Siri but angry and military like) to question other peoples camera choices as they are inferior to RED.
    7. Camera Expansion - RED MAX. Combine your phone with RED's new RED MAX projector that can predict the future of all other camera brand resolutions and frame rates. Comes with canned laughter. (the projector comes at up to IMAX size and can also be combined with helicopter propellors for RED SKY IMAX.
    8. Camera Expansion - RED Chain Bomb. You can "daisy chain" all RED Hydrogen phones together by Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to create a holographic RED logo in the sky which explodes into red fireworks. Doing this increases your RED Weapons ISO temporarily to ISO 3000,400,700,201. 33. It's so sensitive that you can actually film through objects.
    9. Firmware Update - RED Handed. This is sort of like Apple's "Find Your iPhone" app, but this actually detects if someone has stolen the phone and activates an electric shock so the robber drops your phone. It then has wings that come out the sides and flies back to you.
    10. Firmware Update - Code RED. Write your own code and add features to your RED Weapon camera, such as a Disney film app or even better, a library of War genre films to watch while you judge exposure on your shoot.

The trusted source also said the price for the phone is just for the actual shell of the phone, and you will have to buy all the separate components and modules to make it work. Each module is rumoured to be priced around $47,500 and there will be 437 to choose from by 2019.
Text messaging will be added as firmware update in 2020 and it will cost a cut-price of $23,000.

Ok, ok....it's Friday, I've finished for the day and I fancied have a mess around. But of course, this is all true!

Shot on the GH5 in 3 days. A concept trailer done having a zero budget for our upcoming first feature film.
I really like what I can squeeze out of the internal 10 bit V-Log footage. DR, lowlight and colors are really good.
Everything was shot with sharpening and nr set to -5 and a Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter applied in front of the lens (12-35mm 2.8 V1, 20mm 1.7, 42.5mm 1.7) to make it smoother. Colorgrading done in Davinci Resolve. Drone shots by the DJI Mavic (the internal sharpening is hideous tbh...).

The Canon 100D is £250 used and I have always had a bit of a soft spot for it, being the smallest and lightest Canon DSLR body.
I recently installed an experimental version of Magic Lantern on the 100D and am absolutely taken-aback by how good the image is!
It practically eliminates moire and softness. The 100D shoots continuous 1.7K RAW video in 25p and 24p to SD card.

There are all sorts of luts and no rule how and when to apply them.
Delog luts, camera matching luts, film emulation luts, calibration luts, creative luts, etc and any combination of those or even make custom ones like @hyalinejim. Usually the color correcting technical luts are applied at the beginning and the creative ones at the end.
I am mostly use film emulation (like Fuji color profiles) and creative luts (the collection from @benymypony) . I also use the latter as the last step when grading photographs.

benymypony reacted to AaronChicago in GH5 vs Ursa Mini 4.6K
I was planning on doing a more in depth test, but I only had a few minutes to spare during a shoot to compare the two cameras with our actress.
    GH5 Settings: UHD, V Log L 10 bit, ISO 800, 24p, Sigma 18-35, shot at 28mm f4 using Nikon Speedbooster.
    Ursa Mini 4.6K Settings: UHD, ProRes 422, ISO 800, 24p, Sigma 18-35, shot at 28mm f4.
Grade: I started with Comet Color A Side for the UM46K. Added a bit of contrast and saturation. From that point I tried matching the GH5's color/exposure to match.
Lighting was mixed conditions. Her face was lit with a Quasar Science 5600K LED tube + natural daylight coming in the window. Background lights were running at around 2600K. Walls are a greenish yellow color naturally.

Nice, I didn't even know I could do this!
The nice thing about Capture One is that it shows a preview while scrolling through the LUTs/ICCs, with Lightroom it seams I have to select it and then push perceptual and then relative once again. But at least now there is no need for photoshop anymore and your previewer program works great anyways! ( though an addition that I would consider is to have a some form of gallery with different LUTs like is shown here).

I just tested the ICC profiles you sent me with Lightroom CC 2015.6 and it works.
I copied the ICC file into: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles/Recommended
Then we can use it in LR, but we can't adjust intensity.
    Nice alternative anyway

I have been using these more for grading photos than videos recently.
For the longest time I was trying to find a way to use it with Lightroom without the need to roundtrip to Photoshop but I did not have any luck.
Then I gave the Capture One a try and I managed to convert the LUTs to ICC profiles that can be loaded in the program. Success! Now you can easily add these LUTs to your photos although you will loose the ability to partially add the LUT or use any camera specific ICC profile.
Here is the link with the compiled ICC files:
EDIT I just figured out I shouldn't share this since it was Benjamin's LUTs. @benymypony I sent you a link with the files if you want to add them to your drive folder.

benymypony reacted to mercer in 5D3 ML Raw Screen Grabs
So as some already know, I recently purchased a 5D3 primarily to shoot Magic Lantern Raw. Well this week I started my first short film with it. It was definitely a learning experience but I really don't know of any camera where I would have achieved such pleasing images. I also purchased the Canon 24-70mm f/4 lens and I am consistently blown away by what a great lens it is and the OIS is so damn good, even at 70mm, that the majority of my short, thus far, has been shot handheld.
With the recent 4K Raw developments, I figured I would post some pros and cons in case somebody else is looking to pick one up.
Well the first pro is that shooting Raw could not be simpler with it. Set up Raw histogram with the overexposure hint and when it shows your color channels are starting to clip or the word "over" appears on the histogram, then just dial back your exposure a touch.
Another pro is that there are a bunch of people on this forum still shooting with the 5D3 and everybody is helpful. If you have a problem about any aspect of the process or workflow, there are plenty of other ML shooters around here that go out of their way to answer even the stupidest of my questions... not nearly as daunting as the ML forum.
Now a couple cons... you need a bunch of cards... or a computer and hard drive to offload your footage... 12 minutes on a 64GB cards gets filled quickly. Even with 3 cards, and trying to be conservative with my shots and shot ratios, I still ran out of space 3/4 of the way through my second day of shooting.
Converting the footage is a bit tedious. The RawMagic route of converting the MLV files to CDNG is fairly fast but then you still have to process the footage through Resolve or After Effects before really seeing what you have. I really like the MLRawViewer program, but although you get to preview your footage, the conversion is slow and after I updated my Mac to Sierra, the version I have does not work with it, but I believe there is a newer version,  so hopefully it will work then.
I guess that's about it for now, so I'll leave you with a couple graded screen grabs, from a couple shots I briefly messed around with yesterday...
