I think your frustration is misplaced, Andrew. I fail to see how it is up to google and FB to kill their own platforms by curating (censoring) content. If they did that then they would be overtaken overnight. Period. I work full time in marketing at a company that sells 90% online and I can tell you that YT and FB are perfectly oiled machines that serve consumers exactly what they want to see. That's why they are worth billions.
What you've overlooked is that if consumers truly wanted different content, then YT and FB, using the exact same algorithms, would serve up that different content. It's that simple. My own YT and FB feeds don't show me the crap you're upset with because I never interact with it. It shows me camera stuff, exercise stuff, and puppy videos lol . That's it.
If you really want content that's curated (again, censored), it already exists: It's called TV and nobody wants it.

I really liked it. I think the coloring fit the movie quite well. Cuts were done on the most part cleanly. I think you did a great overall job. I see little I would change. Good story to boot.

    Hey people,
I've just completed a no budget short sci-fi film and wondered if I could get some opinions on it visually.
I shot this on the Samsung NX1 (my first project on the camera) and certainly ran up against some of its limitations, like low light performance.
Anyway, I've never been particularly happy with my own colour grading, maybe its just me being too harsh on myself as I know many of us are a bit self deprecating creatively.
i'd be really interested to hear any comments or criticism people may have about the project.

Thanks in advance for anyone that replies.

    Cheers,

If you are editing your NX1 files in Premiere then your blacks are looking crushed because it is expecting a luminance level of 16-235 and there is no way to inform Premiere that this is not the case. You can compensate for this by changing the levels at both ends or I have found that applying the brightness and contrast filter to all clips using these settings brings it back fairly close to the original exposure: brightness -3, contrast -15. (Video Effects, Color Correction, Brightness & Contrast).
I now use Davinci Resolve which allows you to stipulate the luminance levels of a clip which it adjusts accordingly. Why this is not a feature of Premiere still puzzles me.
Of course if you are not using Premiere then you may find a similar issue with your editor of choice.

After some thought, I have decided to list for sale my very rare Minolta 135mm F2.0 lens in MD mount.
Two minor issues with this lens:
    - minor lens fungus on front element (this has now been killed off, but remains within the lens. Could be removed by lens technician)
    - minor scratch on rear element.
Neither of these issues effect the image and I can try to obtain macro shots of both of these if required.
Other than these two problems, the lens is in great condition for its age. With a smooth focus action and all lens markings clearly visible. Comes with original caps.
Ive been very impressed with the quality of this lens and my reason for sale is due to my lack of portrait work and my general use of telephoto zooms. However this a fast, well built lens and is sharp at F2.
The only other sale I can find for this lens recently was for $1000 for a mint lens, so I have set what I believe to be a fair price given the lenses issues.
This works excellently on any modern mirrorless camera. I primarily shoot video and I have attached a sample 4K still taken on my NX1 (camera settings sharpness -9). Focusing was set around the smaller eye and the lines around it.
Looking for £500, plus £20 for insured postage.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Will aim to get the best postage within the budget, will refund any excess postage costs. Based in Glasgow city centre.

It's really difficult to tell the capability of the lens from the Rokkor files site I think, it seems to be a pretty old article and its not the best choice of test shots.
Speaking of not the best test shots...
Heres too very quick and dirty shots out of my NX1, one photo, one video frame. Straight out of the camera (video still was fired into premiere for titling)
Shot at ISO 200 at F2 and with the camera set to -9 sharpness.
I tried mainly to focus on the smaller "eye" (or is that his projector like R2-D2?) and the lines around it.
Like I said, its a very quick and dirty test, done on a small Pixi tripod that wasn't quite up to the weight of the camera and lens, so take into account that these are rough results, wide open and with some minor shake. I think the lens makes a pretty good account of itself wide open.
I'm heading out just now, so I cant do anymore tests tonight, but if anyones got any suggestions of what they'd like to see out of the Lens, just fire up here and I'll do my best :)/

It's a shame Canon haven't put the 1D C image & sensor in a more video optimised body ergonomically, like a mini-C100 and paired it with the XF codec 422 305Mbit
They sit on this amazing tech and do fuck all with it.

After much work and many sleepless nights, I have almost finished my work and I think I have brought the lens NXL to the point of being sold to the public.
I thought if the test this week will be positive to produce it with Canon EF mount dumb to which you can add a Nikon adapter with iris aperture control.
At this stage it allows to mount all Nikon and Canon lenses, in the future I will continue to work to enable the electronic control of the lenses.

Hello cojocaru27, very soon it will be possible to pre-orders. I believe we are around 55-58mm. The DOF 1.4 is awesome! full aperture form large and very nice oval ball!

From what I've read, that would be the 16-50 f2-2.8 then. It's really a shame that the Pentax K adapter that Samsung made for their old lenses isn't active, we could have learned a lot from it.
RockyMountains Arduino unit noted above is probably the closest we've come. Like I said I think we are most likely to have success with a dumb adapter at the NX end, that controls and powers a lens externally. Trying to create an adapter to allow the NX to do it itself is most likely outwith our limited collective R and D capabilities.
    Edit:
It also occurs to me to ask what you guys would expect (be willing) to pay for such an adapter. With such limited production numbers, the cost per adapter will be much higher than most others on the market.

Great work on the speedbooster so far, great to see so much activity in regards to continuing what Samsung abandoned.
The DIY community will be our only chance of seeing an electronic mount adapter for the NX, I cant see any companies (metabones, or even some of the newer chinese ones like Zhongyi), seeing this as an economically viable product. RockyMountains work is very interesting and I've been following his youtube channel for sometime. Without wanting to be an negative nancy, I think best case scenario we could end up with something like the earlier redrock adapters, with an external control unit.
I happen to know a lot of engineers, including one that works for Thales Angenieux, I'll run the concept of a hardware adapter past them next I see them and see if I can get anyone to contribute.

Probably because there is more Canon than Nikon lenses that need electronic control and a large number of the users on this forum will be most likely ex or current Canon users.

Hallo NX World, the NX Booster it's coming soon! This is the Prototype Mark II.
Marco do not worry, if I do not post my progress, is because I have a lot of work in my private life. Next week I start the test with Nx1 camera.

Another quick test (this is one of the first test) the lens still is not perfectly aligned, and this creates a little blur in the lower part.
Nevertheless, it also corrects distortion, behaving in the opposite way to the way a wide angle.
Also, you can see the brightness gain of 1 stop in dark areas.

I guess the choice you have to make is wether you'd prefer to focus more on FCPX? When it first came out, it broke my heart, I loved 7. I've since moved to Premiere and they've made a lot of moves to make it similar to FCP 7, including keyboard shortcuts and the like. Though I hear these days that FCPX is a powerhouse and not to be overlooked, so I guess it depends wether you want a machine that could do premiere and FCPX?

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but the MBP is supposed to be moving to Skylake (new cpus) in the next few months, so there will be a refresh. If you are going for an integrated GPU, the new models will have a better one. Though in saying that, its a lot to spend on a work laptop without getting one with a GPU. Apple moved back to AMD graphics with their last MBP refresh and I think theres mixed feelings about this as theres no longer CUDA support. Personally, I know a lot of people say you have to get on the bus eventually and cant keep waiting for the next computer to come out, but I'd seriously wait for the next machines this time and maybe save the extra to get a dedicated graphics card if you are set on a RMBP.

I reckon that should share the same mount as the pre mirrorless Sony Alphas (A mount). As it has electronic contacts, I doubt you would get aperture control like you can with Nikon lenses.
    EDIT:
I stand corrected! This seems to work, but it's fairly costly: http://www.videogear.co.uk/Lens-Mount-Adapters/Novoflex-Adapter-Minolta-AF-/-Sony-Alpha-Lenses-To-Samsung-NX-Cameras/prod_2417.html

Actually the NX1 nicely downscales the 4K internally to 1080p for the HDMI output. I've tried recording that with the Video Assist and it is pretty decent quality. Better than the internal 1080p!
So get the Video Assist if you need better quality 1080p from your NX1 and can't be bothered with 4K or H.265.
Also the 1D C's 4K downscaled in-camera to feed the clean HDMI output is rather lovely.
1.3x crop of sensor like the 4K, but without the massive file sizes or MJPEG to contend with
Video Assist good for capturing that. It is VERY sharp and clean with very little weirdness going on. Gradients are very smooth too. Looks like 10bit luma.
I also have a Nikon D5500 at the moment but not sure about that, it may have to go back because the HDMI seems stuck at 29.97p or needs pulldown from interlaced signal. Can't get native 24p or 25p out of it.
Review of the D5500 is in the works by the way, aside from that issue it is rather nice for a cheap 1080p camera. Very small and light for a DSLR.
