AnthonyWithNoH got a reaction from OliKMIA in Miami Aerial and Hyperlapse Video
Incredible work, thank you for committing to making this! I loved the skyline shots especially when they changed from day to night. I'm a Miami local who spends a lot of time in these areas shooting video... great to see it this way. I'm really amazed how much time must have gone into this, definitely something to be proud of on its own. The final drone shot with the plane flying in was a nice touch too. I do a lot of drone flying around downtown and Miami Beach, but would eventually like to do some aerial out of a helicopter... Any advice on that? Either technique or who to go with for the service. I have a ronin M for stabilization and a GH4 with a speedbooster that works out to a 1.5x crop... Not sure which focal lengths I would bring especially considering I wouldn't be able to rebalance midflight. Would  you need a special permit or training to film with this setup for non commercial purposes? Any help would be great, thanks... And once again, incredible job on this video.

Actually the Terra has ignored me.
I'd love to try one out in Berlin at some point, I can't buy absolutely everything just to review it.

I'm sure he's still interested in posting something about its video quality. There are over 50000 views on the forum pages concerning the gx80. The interest is certainly there.

I looked at Canon too before buying the GX80, but quickly found that clearly innovation and progressing their lower-end DSLR's weren't their thing. They've somehow been able to market virtually the same camera ever since the 50D- absolutely brilliant for making massive amounts of money! That's not saying they can't make nice images, because they can... but you hit the nail on the head with the word "soft." They decided that details in video should only be for their higher-end cameras. I look at the GX80 and it screams "2016," newer Canons in this price range scream "2010."

AnthonyWithNoH reacted to BrooklynDan in Is the Alexa still king? (Actual question, not an argument)
I work in a rental house and see Alexas, Amiras and Minis fly off the shelves all day long while F55s and Dragons sit in their boxes. And it's only increased as the attention has turned to the newer models and the original Alexa has come down in price. People who might've once settled for a prosumer-style digital cinema camera like the C300 or F3 can now afford to hire an Alexa, and many do without a moment's hesitation.
It's the only camera that really operates on a "what-you-see-is-what-you-get basis". The Canons come close, and the Reds and Sonys are a hideous mess of LOG profiles, LUTs and complicated menus. And one thing I can say for certain is that the Alexa is the only camera that is dead-on with its ISOs. ISO 800 on the Alexa is a true ISO 800, seven stops over and under middle-gray. The Canons and Sonys are somewhat faster. The FS7 in particular is way off. I would reckon that ISO 800 on that camera is closer to 1600.
Meanwhile, you can take the Alexa out of the box, hit LOG-C on 2K Prores, pull up the Rec.709 LUT on your monitor, light the scene using your light meter like they did in the good old days, and go home with an image that can look good without requiring any special color-correction sauce beyond gamma and color tweaks. And it holds up on a 40-foot screen, And it never breaks or fails. At my workplace, we practically never receive customer support calls regarding Alexas. They come back in perfect condition and our technicians turn 'em around in a matter of minutes. Meanwhile, these Reds are making my co-workers tear their hair out.
Simplicity, reliability and raw image quality independent of specs and numbers is where it's at. Arri gets this, which is why they keep winning despite the exorbitant cost of their products.

I'm doing a documentary in rural parts of South East Asia (i.e Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia etc), it's going to be a two-man (max) film crew with a one host. We could've used a cheaper camera and gotten a sound guy but I wanted to use the Alexa Mini. I actually bought the Mini. I'm coming from the FS7 so I have pretty much very little idea what I'm getting myself into here. I will be using an external recorder that's for sure, but I need some form of scratch audio into the video footage so I can sync them afterwards. I thought about timecode using the Tentacle Syncs that I'm contemplating to buy but honestly I have no idea how to use them, I always synced my audio using waveforms. I've done a little bit of research into timecodes and the timecode modes, and realised that the best option is just to set it on 24 hour run because I can't possibly be timecode jamming all the time when I'm moving around.
I just found out about the MixPre-D that allows me to output to two 3-pin XLR that I could possibly just adapt to the 5-pin lemo but that seems like a very bulky option. I really hope someone makes a portable preamp that outputs to a 5-pin lemo so I don't have to go through all these conversions.

You're asking if Canon will release a firmware update which will very significantly increase the video capabilities of one of their products.....  ?? LOL LOL

We all know the answer to that!!

Don't waste your time on the Zoom H5 shotgun capsule, it's terrible - I own one. An NTG4+ or NTG3 would be good for outdoor use. I bought the NTG4+ and while it's good enough with my Zoom H6, I wish I would have just gone with the NTG3.

Thank you Andrew! I was hoping we would get a post on the GX85 from you soon and am glad that this isn't the last we'll see of it from you. I'm most likely going to order one in the next few days with your link, makes me wish I had a Canon Mount Sigma 18-35 (use Nikon) so I could easily take advantage of IBIS with it... will have to do something about that soon. What interests me most about this camera is of course the IBIS, but I'd like to see the benefits of it when paired with a gimbal like a Ronin M as the Ronin M doesn't correct for up and down bobbing motion while walking. Do you plan on looking into this? I don't see anyone else testing this. I understand you can turn off the correction for the pan axis too which would be useful for pairing with a gimbal. Also, the XL .64 works fine (mainly in terms of attachment) besides the usual soft edges w 18-35 and other aps-c lenses while in the 1080 mode? I still have my Nikon to BMCC adapter lying around which might find it's place on the gx85 until I decide it's worth it to buy another EF speedbooster as I'd like to use this alongside my GH4.

What a shame, upsetting NAB from Panasonic. No interchangeable lens camera and GH4 didn't get V-log or 2.35 guidelines! Most of us don't use actual anamorphic lenses, we would just like to have the guidelines as a reference even if we've been able to compose for it. URSA Minor 4.6K is the star of the show
