Not sure that is possible ... I always look for Vimeo and download original file if available ... then watch on computer without
the compression. If it is a compressed file I do not bother to download.

Yup, exactly, much less than 5yrs!
And a year and half isn't too long to wait.
I feel I've got less impatient as the years go by :-)
(then again I was getting a little impatient waiting for the NT-SF1? Want to see some independent reviews of that mic!)

I am moving back to the GH ... GH5s arriving this week ... to supplement my Leica SL which is challenged in low light.
No one else gives us 10 bit 4:2:2 internal dual UHS2 card slots HDMI A connector in a small portable form.
This short sums up my thoughts of its adaptability and function for small projects :

Jordan Drake in the GH5s introduction mentioned that in reality 8 bit may be preferable to 10 bit as there is much less noise
in the shadows ... if exposed correctly. This mirrors his experience.

Perhaps a better solution is a PIX-E5 external recorder with a PIX-LR ... pro grade preamps and limiters and LED monitoring. Or an Atomos recorder.

As does the GH5s ... which would have been a better camera to compare ... as they perhaps share

I am certainly not bigger than a camera company, or more important than Blackmagic and I think people may have seen the hysterics as a bit silly.
I accept that yes, possibly I have shot myself in the foot.
Having said that, EOSHD is bigger than me as well and is a real community. I was standing up for the community and not just for myself.
This was a perfect storm for me. A combination of several factors which caused me to get upset enough to write that article...
First the Canon EOS R launch and the new levels of invasive of PR offensive we are seeing from the camera companies to quell dissent and turn even Caleb Pike into a "it's not perfect but WOW what a great camera" kind of guy. Rather than the person he should be, a "1.8x crop sucks" kind of reviewer.
Secondly the overwhelming feeling of shithead sycophants climbing above my site, in the VIP lane, completely undeservedly.
Thirdly the geographical positioning of the Blackmagic event, it being on my doorstep.
Next the fact Cinema5D were paid to fly in. I could have walked in.
Finally, the John Brawley factor on here and the lack of support from most of my own readers, honestly all this is enough to give someone a nervous breakdown.
It's hard to really get across how I feel, because it is a weird situation and I think the internet is a bit weird as well. In real life, people don't say the things I say or say the things to me that I have had to put up with. People need to calm down, myself included.
    It's only a camera.
But I do feel the future of camera and tech journalism is at stake. In fact it may already be absolutely dead. And the most depressing thing of all is that the reader is fine, unawares, and on the most part notices no issue.
    No, that wasn't my intention.
Yes I have dug myself into a very silly hole.
I'll be the first to admit that.
Yes Johnnie at Cinema5D is laughing his business head off as we speak.

Andrew, the comments about grading weren’t intended for you specifically.  Read the post.  I was talking in generalities about recent facebook groups I’d left and a similar entitled tone here. It was not a personal attack but you chose to take it that way.
Cmon, I shoot these shots for BMD for exactly this purpose. To be downloaded and graded.  If I was truly precious about it I wouldn’t do it again and again would I ?
You’re throwing a tantrum, publicly, because you dind’t get an invite to a BMD event that is seems like few even knew about.
Somehow you think that’s got something to do with me so you went and wrote a post about me. A really lovely piece too.
I’ve said it already a thousand times.
    I don’t work for them.
I don’t have that much to do with them day to day.  Last contact I had with anyone at BMD was weeks ago.
It’s not my job to make sure YOU get some attention from them.  That’s on you to make that case.
And by the way, this kind of childish unprofessional behaviour is exactly the kind of reason any company would think twice about working with you.
Instead, you launch a highly personal assasination blog post as well as numerous personal attacks because I dared to try and explain that to you in a way that you thought wasn’t deferential enough ?
You don’t do this for free.  You sell something.  I don’t but you actually do.
Having traffic come to this site means you have a greater chance of selling something.
You sell LUT’s and you sell guides and you use the traffic here to do so. So don’t pretend all this free traffic is somehow a favour to BMD and free publicity.
I didn’t even see the post you made about the BMD footage till your personal attack on me,  but I noticed when I read your BMD post you’re mixing in a bunch of references to LUT’s you’re trying to flog.
    How about this...
Delete every single post of mine.  All the IP that I’ve posted and shared on this forum? All those posts where I’ve shared my knowledge and experience.
Go ahead and put your money where your mouth is.

ProRes 4444 is the post version of the format (has the alpha channel) and in camera it's called 444.
On the Micro cameras when I use them I only use the VA as a small lightweight monitor.  I record internally to 1920 ProRes HQ.
Resolution and dynamic range / bit depth aren't related at all really.  You could maybe make an argument that extra resolution helps with surprising noise, but it's only those that want to make a petty technical point that would say so because it's a small advantage.  I doubt the difference between 720 and 1080 would make any difference at all.
If the costs come down, I can see Networks going to 4K because they DO want to future-proof themselves, they just don't want to PAY what it costs to process and store all those 4k files.
To me as a cinematographer I care a LOT LESS about resolution and a LOT MORE about bit depth.  I'd rather have 1920 12 bit files than 8k 8 bit files.

Still need to dial in color and most probably add an external recorder for 10bit color and a gimbal

It seems to be ... there are notes that say it will require a firmware update in their specs but this is the first time the Mbps has
been mentioned. Time will tell if Matthew Allard is correct with his 2 month old note on the upcoming XF-AVC but I suspect that he
    will be correct.
Would appeal to a much broader base if it had the minimum broadcast standard as a middle codec ... since the C300 Mk III seems to be imminent
protecting it is nothing if not classic Canon.

No but I am thinking of divesting my last Leica RF and a couple of lenses, moving from the 5D4 to a dedicated C series camera. I love the Leica but it has seen little light
for a couple of months ... and the 5D4 is very good but pales in comparison with the C100II C300II or C200.
I have learned that having a lot of money tied up in equipment that I might use if I found the time is unrewarding. So I sold off my medium format gear, most of my
full frame rangefinder stuff and this would be the completion of that move.
Prefer a camera that I can run with ... without a lot of rigging most of the time.
The clips were downloaded from an online posting ... just playing with the raw to see if it is workable. Had a RED One and RED Epic a number of years ago ... loved
the RED raw but the cameras entailed to much stuff for me.
All I can say is that Arri is out of my price range and no one else comes close to Canon color. So color, light and motion depict reality which is pretty much what a
wildlife and landscape photo/video shooter tries to portray ... at least that is my goal. So Canon it is ... for video ... stills ... give me Hasselblad or the newest Nikon 810 850
sensors or the Leica S or SL.
C200B is somewhat crippled without the EVF and no LCD ... makes it kinda big with an add-on external screen ... and by the time you add handle and screen you are
very close to the C200. Although a small Zacuto Gratical Eye might be workable.
I will rent the C200 this week to see if it is as useable as the C100Mk2 I have used in the past.

Yes CRL gives you a lot of options ... even with HD ... conversion to Prores HQ and rendering as HD ... with the ability to stabilize and crop if needed ... would cover everything from HD120FPS to 4K 12 bit.
As I have not production pressure ... time is not an issue so conversion and rendering is not a drawback.
Now just what spec the 160Mbps XF-AVC is will determine how attractive the camera is to many. Assume it is 8 bit but hope they at least give us 4:2:2.

docmoore reacted to kye in Who would pay twice the price if the new BM Pocket 4K had Canon DPAF?
How do these adapters work with multiple AF points and things like eye-detect AF.  Do they allow all the smart focusing modes, or just a limited AF mode like a simple centred AF point or equivalent?
People pay a lot for 4K, and considering that a shot out of focus is basically a 240p or worse video file, I'd say that you're not understanding what is at stake.
Most of the vloggers I watch have mentioned that they bought their main cameras with their own money.  Maybe they get a second much cheaper one 'on loan' but that's the minority.  I think assuming that people are 'on the take' is easy to assume, but may not be true.
Your point is well made and I totally agree, however there are quite a number of elitist ivory-tower snobs on here who insist that unless you're shooting in controlled lighting conditions on a set with a crew of dedicated people that you're basically not a real film-maker and you don't even deserve the soft 1080 that Canon gives you.  They don't say it explicitly, but it's behind many of the posts here.
Its been strongly implied that if I want better quality home or holiday videos then I need to: buy a cinema camera, hire a sound tech with a boom mic, learn to manually focus (including sporting events), control my DR via lighting and modifiers, use a tripod, and do multiple takes..  instead of asking for a DSLR sized camera with good IQ, reliable AF, audio recording and processing advances from this century, IBIS / OIS, and being able to enjoy myself while recording a clip.

This is the Wooden Camera Small DSLR Accessory Kit ... however if you do not need the quick release tripod plate with 15mm rod support you can get the a7/A9 cage
which appears to be on sale at B&H at the moment.

This is a list of all the WC cages and systems ...

    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?ci=3926&fct=fct_brand_name|wooden-camera&N=3907816577

    Again,
The battery door is obstructed so battery and camera are captive. I assume knowing WC the can modify the base for the Canon M50. The side rod which connects the top and base
comes in three sizes so you can use the cage for mirrorless, Canon 5D and 1DX bodies ... I have all three of the rods as they are one of the cheapest parts of the system. Very rigid and
will support a ton of stuff. External monitor recorder, follow focus and matte box ... etc.

Perhaps the dividing line is cinema versus video ...
Most cinema is scripted and staged ... so the camera operator knows the distances near and far and can practice many times the pulls prior to
the final shoot. Many follow focus wheels have stops for near and far. And manual focus on a decent 7 inch monitor with good light is very clear,
    without a need for magnification.
When I am following a duck at 30 to 150 yards or a heron jumping and moving while it fishes the inshore of a slough ... all at F2 to F4 ... DPAF with tracking
helps. Or when tracking a flying bird that is not at a constant distance and is moving at high speed ...  DPAF just sorts it. Or a performer who moves while playing
with shallow DOF it is seamless. That unpredictable movement would stress even a seasoned focus puller.
Usually if the object is static ... I will zoom in to nail focus and stay in MF for the clip.
Nice to have the option ... and if AF is poor it is more of a hinderance than a help. It is why I had the GH5 for a very short time ... just not good enough.
So to turn the question a bit ... I would pay more for a 5D4 with no crop and RAW in 4K.

Just wanted to say that's a great looking still..  nicely done!
It would be great it has the option to crop in or not to.  I think that's one of the biggest advantages of having a hybrid camera for video.  I'm looking at new cameras and if I end up with the A7III then when combining the 24-105 F4 with the 1.5X crop mode and the 1.5X digital zoom makes that lens a 24-236mm, which is a fantastic walk-around lens.
