  1. I picked up a M50 and EOS - EFM adapter today ... put my EOS 40 lens on ... charging batteries ... if DPAF shows in the new M5 Mk II I will upgrade in a NY minute. Using this as a B-cam to the 5DMk IV AC adapter and a Tethertools battery insert ordered. Thanks for the VisionColor suggestion ... downloaded as I have the Impulz LUTS Ultima .... At least gives us options ...
  2. The 8000s are indeed only splash proof as they incorporate a fan for settings at 6300Lumen and higher. 5000, 2000, and 1000 are waterproof. Light and motion started making dive lights so if they say 100 meters then I would believe them. They do have a specific dive model of the light ... back end looks exactly like a Stella Pro. Here is a review of their build quality: Doubt that these would light a large room ... more for interviews and eng closer up ... or lighting a part of a room. This youtube video is on the 555 Kit ... three of the older 5000s: You will find other stella pro information clustered around this video. BH still lists the older 5000K Head light, nonRF here: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1181850-REG/light_motion_850_0335_a_stella_5000_led_light.html 5000K 90 CRI 93 TLCI and the new 5600 replacement head here : https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1327560-REG/light_motion_800_0318_a_stella_pro_5600k_head.html 5600K 92 CRI 93 TLCI There description of the 5000K RF Action Kit with the new head shows older specs similar to the original 5000K light but this is a link to the Light and Motion listing: https://www.lightandmotion.com/choose-your-light/stella-pro/stella-pro-5000-rf 5600K 92 CRI 93 TLCI Reviews of the older lights showed a green spike ... but minor and easily corrected with a custom white balance. Ideally ... all of their lights should have a similar color profile show correction for them would be consistent. Definitely a niche product ... but works for me as it covers small video scenes and all of my still photo needs.
  3. Agree ... and the truth i that the CEO could be history tomorrow. If the product meets your expectations and desires .... ignore the internal hype. If you stay with a series of lights that have similar CRI and output ... your ability to adjust WB and color in post is simplified. Bob
  4. Stella recently upgraded their lights CRI is up 93 and light is much closer to 5600K ... also controllable from an Elinchrom remote ....rather than hijack this discussion I started a new one about the SP 8000s .... snobby or not ... buy what works for you. Bob
  5. I added a couple of the Stella Pro 8000 and will add a Stella Pro 5000 as they allow for Profoto Speedrings and Modifiers. Gorgeous light, drop proof and you can dive with them. Couple of stills to illustrate the light. Pricey but on the order of a Profoto or Broncolor flash .... these were through the umbrella at 4000 lumen. Bob
  6. Wonder if a 1/8 TRS to stereo RCA cable ... powered monitor speaker ... just plug the R RCA ... Of concern is presence of cross-talk from the L channel if it overpowers the internal amps
  7. Actually an Ambient nanoLockit ... seems the TC generator in the SD633 is from Ambient. I discovered in time that the syncing was perfect but something in my timeline edit was throwing things off. So I ended up opening a new project and things worked as expected ... media and edit modules had good sync. Assume that somewhere in the previous project the FPS was other than 23.976.
  8. I have used a Rode NTG-3 and AKG 414XL which had multiple patterns available but was really better for a studio. Now have a pair of matched Rode M5’s which are tiny and sound great as singles. I like the reviews of Claytun Judd... Spent a fair amount of time on his channel.
  9. Forget the post above. Checking footage in camera you could probably use a set of earbuds ... just insert the right one ... yes TC audio sounds awful. I wonder if the internal mic Is off when external mic is plugged in .... does the tentacle scratch mic record to right channel?
  10. Please tell us how the Tentacle is being used ... if you are syncing TC ... the the audio of the GH5 should be TC only ... and your external recorder will fill the gap. On the Canon 5D Mk IV and a Nanolockit I manually adjust levels for the NL input ... then in post sync the TC for the audio. Perhaps I do not understand what you wish to accomplish. Bob
  11. With trepidation I admit to using a SD 633 ... new to me and I have struggled all day to sync TC in Resolve ... success after a number of hours. I committed to the Canon 5d Mk IV ... color science and DPAF ... I know it is not your favorite platform ... have pre-ordered the BM new new thing as a B cam. Sound to me is perhaps a bit more important than video. Played with the 633 and an AT 4053b ... https://vimeo.com/266599632 Password: SD 633 Bob
  12. Sounds like you have a favorite recorder ...
  13. That is very true. And if I had a F8 rather than a H6 I would not have been looking. Just appreciate the inbuilt Ambient TC, four power options, locking connectors and intermediate size. I think the MixPre10T might be a bit larger ... although any of the aforementioned devices would have worked with a bit additional work. And I know that the Kashmir preamps are stellar. Only question on the Zoom is that the limiters are in the digital domain ... SD limiters are analog and prior to the digital conversion so potentially less chance of hitting a brick wall and distorting ... perhaps like overexposing and losing highlight information in video. The cello has such dynamics it was a bit of a concern. Bob
  14. Actually I sold off all of my MF still equipment ... generated enough to finance the recorder and a couple of video lights ... plus a return to a RF for stills. I had a MixPre 6 on order but without TC I decided to throw caution to the wind an go for the 633. The mics ... simple Rode M5 stereo pair ... better than I imagined. Thanks, Bob
  15. Spurred by the original posts in this thread ... I recently upgraded my Zoom H6 to a SD 633. H6 was good but no TC and limited power options led me to look at SD. Reality is that the audio of my 5D Mk IV is pathetic ... and I wanted something that could be used without a camera. Just scratching the surface of its ability ... Here are a couple of files that I recorded ... spur of the moment yesterday. SD 633 First Light - One Crimson Thread 1.m4a SD 633 First Light - Cello Improv FInal.m4a Quick import into Logic Pro X ... the limiters and preamps are all they say .... could not be more pleased. Bob
  16. Folks Canon is not a non profit corporation that has the corporate ethic of giving you the best of everything at no cost. It is interesting to read the rants here about how bad the Canon cameras are ... Disclamer ... I have used a number of video cameras over the past 10 years ... while my main focus has been landscape photography. Short list ... in order of acquisition ... Sony 1XER ... Red One ... Red Epic ... Panasonic GH2 ... 3 ... 5 ... Sony A7S ... A7RII ... Canon 7D ML ... 5D Mk 2 ...Mk3 ... 1Dx Mk I ... Mk II Nikon 810 ... almost every Leica camera in the last 25 years ... Truth is that the 5D Mk IV is stellar ... in spite of the crop ... when you have unparalleled lenses from 11 to 600 the crop is a non issue. Gorgeous screen and wonderful DPAF ... God forbid that you might have to pay for the above. Most of us in the west spend enormous amounts of change for ... coffee ... net access ... designer clothes. The entry fee for Canon is not that bad ... and their products are built to last decades ... My main camera is a Hasselblad ... but for video the 5D Mk IV smokes most others ... Here is a short video ... non C Log with the camera and the pitiful 24 - 105 F4 https://vimeo.com/256661656 Yes it is a conspiracy ... they exist to make a profit. Hopefully they will continue to do so and offer products that are as compelling as the present line. Out of your range ... then buy what you can afford and run it into the ground. But honestly ... all the whining is getting a bit old. Bob
  17. This might help: https://techsviewer.com/macos-high-sierra-slow-fixes/ just a possibility. Bob
  18. Congratulations on the new new camera ... it was one of my favorite digital cameras ... bought mine when the were 37K ... actually traded out of some 8 bodies and 15 lenses for a H2D then moved to the H3D II 39. Love the files out of camera. Three suggestions ... Phocus does a better job with color clarity highlight recovery than any other workflow. Output from it to LR to optimize your conversions. There is a way to "refresh" the batteries ... they tend to hold less of a charge over time and you can reset them ... do a search for this. In the menu you can change the time of shutter actuation from the mirror up ... lengthening it a bit may afford you with sharper images when handholding the camera. Oh ... one more ... the back can be used on a tech camera if you power the back with the firewire cable from a battery and an external cheap FW800 hub. Used mine to great effect on an Alpa TC. In time you may want to look at the HC 50 version II and the HC 100 ... both stellar lenses. My first Hasselblad was in 1984 ... have had too many to number ... recently returned to the fold with the X1D 4116. Love the CCD but DR and higher ISO almost make up for using CMOS. For those who are not familiar with the H3D ... one of the easiest cameras to clean the sensor as it is flush with the outside of the back. Couple of swabs and you are done ... no need to use a loop to see deep inside the camera and attempt to stay off the wall of the deep well. Again ... no video but what wonderful files ... Bob
  19. RED has a strong following but shallow depth ... what better way to increase exposure for the Hydrogen? May sell 20 cameras but the Apple faithful will recognize the name and associate it with the faith. So Hydrogen comes along and ... market exposure is bazillions not the small group that live in the RED forum. Just a guess ... but I can see a number of RED owners jumping the queue by picking a configured camera up from Apple store. And really 4.5K would work for me ... Bob
  20. No video ... but Jono Slack is Leica's go-to-guy for camera intro reviews.... http://www.slack.co.uk/leica-tl2.html Looks nice but I will keep my Q ....
  21. I see no indication of raw light output either SDI nor HDMI from the little information given at the present.

    Gh5 or 5d mk iv?

WB is the wrong term ... there was a distinct pink cast to the files ... the 7D color was perfect out of camera in ML RAW. Very strange. And RAW out of those cameras is hard to beat ... if they could just hack the 5DMkIV ... Bob
