Hey everyone, I am getting tired of bad gimbal reviews. I rarely have time to make them, but trying to do more and more when I can. Here is my honest opinion on the weebill lab.

You need to conform to 24p. Don’t slow it down with slow motions tools, conform the media. I don’t use revolve but in premiere you right click on the clip in the media window. I am sure it is done similarly.

just a heads up to read the fine print. this is a gray market camera. no manufacturer's warranty from panasonic. it looks like the retailer offers its own warranty instead. only mentioning so people can make an informed decision. I *am* tempted to buy a second EVA1.

Very nice work, especially with the limited time and budget. That EVA handles skin tones, highlights, and saturated colors rather elegantly. Thanks for sharing!

As the cinematographer and editor, I was lucky enough to have a big hand in crafting this music video. It was shot in 12 hours, with every facet donated by friends and fans of the band, to coincide with the release of OLD BLOOD's new single "Enjoy. The Devil". Director was thrilled with what he saw from the camera on set. I used my Contax-Zeiss lenses modded with fixed 2x oval apertures, and with a Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter. This was also a great way to break-in two new Aputure 120D Mark II lights I'd just received.

I can see where you had to take 12 hours to do it. Lots of setups, camera angles, re takes. Technically impressive, but just too violent for me to be honest. Sort of brings back memories I would rather forget. But you warned people. NP.

True, not much EVA1 DNA, but plenty of human DNA.

Bloody Hell! Reminds me of Real Snuff Films back in the day. Hmm. I really don't see any EVA1 DNA in it to be honest. I watched 3/4  of it and stopped. Not my cup of tee.

in the GH4 days, i felt BMD had the better color science. Now with the EVA1 and GH5s, I think Panasonic has the edge. BMD always seemed to "suffer" from a bit of brown-muddiness under artificial light. and i feel I'm still seeing that in the current crop of cameras, although to a lesser extent. But I'll have a chance to do a side by side comparison between my EVA1 and a UMP in preparation for a feature I'm DPing. Looking forward to that.

thanks for the reminder. I still have my Hoya IR Cut somewhere. Totally forgot about that. Will dig it out for this camera test.

I second that. Still a lot of IR pollution in the BMPCC 4K footage I’m seeing. The GH5S handles the colors better than the Blackmagic.....but that Blackmagic raw tho... that’s nice. All you need is a Hoya IR cut filter to fix the Blackmagic issue

yep, i use the same method as Kye. the occasional drawback is you can't generate a LUT from anything with an OpenFX plugin in it if you wanted to create a monitoring LUT for whatever reason. To get around that, you could generate a transformative LUT at to use in place of the DaVinci Color Space Transform plugin.

EVA1 has a 1.5x crop Super35 sensor and does not crop or window up to 120fps in full DCI 2K (not just HD), but does crop to m43 for 240fps. it also will shoot 2K 10-bit up to 120fps, but 8-bit for 240fps.

Australia’s home, but I used to travel to NZ frequently. It’s a beautiful country, the nature is incredible, would love to be there and be able to explore and shoot a little, very jealous of your remaining time.
And so many good options for cameras in this price point, EVA1 certainly wins out for codec and slow mo. Like the ‘living photograph’ remark as well, can’t wait to do some traveling with the C200.

Thanks. Yeah no such thing as a free lunch. But I think that is one weakness I still see with the C200, is other than shooting in Raw, you really Can't get a sharp output when you do need it in like Documentary and Corporate interviews as an example. I can always soften it, but sure can't sharpen it.
I think you made a good choice, especially since Canon wimped out with a good middle Codec on it, and that Panny added Firmware 2.0 to the EVA1, Wow that is some nice Codecs...

you're from new zealand? that's awesome. I've been here two months with three weeks to go. I wish i had more time to explore. we have a trip to queenstown scheduled before we go. but i've been cutting and shooting out of park road post in wellington and have been working through nearly every weekend to make deadlines. doesn't leave much time for anything else. still, i love it here.
that music is a track I got off Artlist.io. I have a subscription. As for the color rendition, I think Canon's emphasis on great skin tone brings an amazing "living photograph" quality to their imaging. It's fantastic. For me, it was between an EVA1 and C200. Made a list of what I thought "won" in over a dozen categories and it was close. but ultimately I chose the EVA1 for its color fidelity, more detailed image, actual 2K rather than HD, and its finer noise character.

More stills from the same short that I posted about earlier. EVA1. Kowa BH 2x anamorphic, Voigtlander 40mm f2 EF mount taking lens. This grade is a first pass I did for the HD proxies my wife will use to cut the film.

My wife and I have been working in Wellington, New Zealand for the last two months (shooting and cutting behind the scenes for a movie) and finally got a weekend to go explore. We drove onto a ferry to the south island and made our way along its northern coast to Golden Bay. I brought my EVA1 & Gratical Eye with me. Sadly, I couldn't shoot some of the amazing hikes we went on due to heavy rain, but got some good stuff nonetheless.
Most of this is DCI 2K in 10-bit 422 All-I at 120fps. At least two clips are scaled down from DCI 4K at 23.976. Lenses were my Contax Zeiss 35mm & 85mm. Both modded with a 2x oval fixed aperture for a faux anamorphic look. Everything was composed for 2.39:1. Graded in DaVinci. Couldn’t spend as much time on it as I wanted to because of work. Might revisit when I have more time. Sweet as.
