Marco Tecno got a reaction from Matthew Hartman in NX2 rumors
I think I'm one of the 'oldest' nx supporters on this forum. I bought nx100 back in late 2011 and since then I bought nx200, 300 and finally nx1 in feb 2015. So it's just been 3 years that I've been using nx1. I love it and along with s lenses it's really powerful.

The news about dng recording is simply great. I followed the hacking scene from day 0 and this would be a tremendous achievement for a system which is proving to be the longest lasting reigning apsc on the market as far as I'm concerned. Kudos to you if you can make this public.

Even without RAW output, you still have a great system on your hands. You can get some great coverage with 3 cams that will all match up perfectly.

Well, that would be the cleverest strategy I've seen to date.
I'm going to suspend disbelief on this one though. The guy is highlighting some very technical approaches in PM that have me seriously thinking this is legit. Either way, the kid seems pretty brilliant.

I would say 4k raw would definitely double the horsepower of the nx1 for my purposes, as long as the workflow isn't entirely unreasonable.
The difference in quality can be experienced by shooting a timelapse with raw photos and comparing that to a hyperlapse shot in h265. The color depth and malleability just doesn't compare.
I'm not throwing shade at the nx1's video quality (i still use it regularly after all), I'm just saying usable 4k raw video would put the camera in another league altogether.

Some shade isn't completely unwarranted. As powerful as HEVC is over h.264, it's still a lossy distribution codec at the end of the day, in 8bit no less. If more can be drawn out of the camera, that's a win in my book. Of course, it will depend on the workflow and reliability. I'm sure some here are willing to meet those requirements.

Dude, get a grip, don't flame this forum like you do on DPR.
Why to push to 25600 when even the 6400ISO in NX1 is really bad, and you do not even own a NX1, why you care?
Also, if you'd like to see more hacks, you can start reading, or pay someone to do as you ask.

I would see if the RAW internal recording on the NX1 comes into fruition. If so, and it's as remarkable and reliable as being touted, we may have to reclassify the NX1 to king of the hill. We'll see what April brings. Hopefully not a cruel joke.

Check at the A7iii thread, there is a bunch of complaints already.
Most of the things you mention are relative to the A7ii, which wasn't a great camera by any means (I hated it!).
The color science is dissapointing again, and even though they improved most things, they still are far behind in touch screen implementation, screens, menu system and ergonomics. Also, native zoom lenses are double the price of Canonikon (without being two times better, actually they are not even slightly better!) and we are not sure about the AF of non Sony lenses), and it is a full frame camera, some people do not like the size/weight/price of glass, or image aesthitics/too much depth of field etc
Certainly is the best Sony ever - for the price -  but except high ISO performance (I never shoot more than 1600, but I would like to be able to, another stop or two) and IBIS (I seriously do not like using it on the GH5) what is better than the NX1?
In my case, no reason to rush things.
I feel that Canon or Nikon will finally do it.

Thanks. We should be releasing a trailer in the next month or so. We are about 60 percent done editing. Had to grab some pick up scenes.
For lenses, I like using older ones for NX1. I shot at 2-2.8 split. This camera has some really deep inky blacks, which I love, but using older lenses lowers the contrast, which gives me an extra half to 3/4 stop when used in conjunction with filters.
Generally I expose for mood. I use white pro mist/soft fx filters, fog/haze, nets to roll off harsh highlights or under expose to protect important highlights or just look in another direction to avoid them. I've found through testing that I can safely recover about 1.5 stop of shadow detail before the image begins falling apart. But honestly I just let things go dark. I rarely recover shadows. But if i need too, i know i can. If theres something that needs to be seen, I'll generally bring in a light fill bounce/light to bring up levels. I don't rely on bumping up iso. Messes with grain texture too much. I like to keep images clean and consistent. I rarely go above 400 iso. Sometimes 800 if I'm short on time.
My thought process with limited DR cameras is to shoot for end goal. WYSIWYG.
We were influenced by Netflix Daredevil, which also goes pretty dark. You definitely have to have trust. Producers and Directors get scared of that amount of darkness. I always keep reference images on my phone to show them just in case.
Here are some additional images and BTS screens.

A rough clip of some pick up shoots. We haven't color graded, stabilized or fine tuned the edit. This is literally something I threw together to see how the scene feels. It's low bitrate to keep size down. The original is really clean.
I also use rolling shutter repair on most clips. It helps with motion cadence in my eyes.
The fight scene was shoot last year. Again, another rough cut.

Here's the guy's rig. I wish him well.

Feel guilty? Corporations don't have feelings, and I seriously doubt the Samsung family does much emoting.

This technique has been around for over a decade. It's basically subpixel sampling and it can take a long time to render. It was originally an After Effects thing.
If you're going to use this technique make sure you shoot with a high shutter speed because too much motion blur will ruin the effect. You have to preplan this.
The best implementation of this technique I've seen is from a plugin called Twixtor, which gives you a set of adjustable parameters, which optical flow does not. You also don't have to conform your footage to a different timeline.
    Results vary:
If this is all you need the plugin will be way cheaper than buying an Ursa Mini.
I still think the Ursa Mini is a good investment if you have the money. You gain quite a bit of advanatges over the NX1 other than just frame rates. The good thing about the NX1 is that it cuts nicely with BMD and RED footage. It would be a good A/B cam setup.
I am definitely NOT looking forward to the weight and size of the Ursa. Knowing my luck Blackmagic will release a smaller/lighter Ursa Mini, just right after I purchase the 2017 model.

Since only the a7r-mk3 really out-specs nx1 and it came out 3 years later and costs 5-10x (considering lenses), having a collection of nx lenses and bodies I'd buy this camera at day 0, like apple fanboys do with iphones ?
