  1. Thanks

This is true. The noise issue in extreme situations on the C300 Mkii can be really bad. You can avoid by shooting at ISO 500 and avoid C-LOG 2 in those types of situations.
You're right, the C500 Mkii is an incredible work horse camera. It's disappointing that there is no light weight 6k codec.
My point was that the C300 Mk2 and the C70 are not worlds apart. In 95 percent of situations, they will look nearly identical.
I was also disappointed that they removed a lot of the picture profiles in the C70. A lot of the baked in profiles that I had used in the past, (rarely,) have been removed. There is no Cinema EOS Original, no BT.709 in Clog2, they also removed the 12 bit 444 2k codec.
Interesting enough, when I compared both cameras in the Wide DR codec, there was more noise on the C70 than the C300Mkii in ISOs over 1600. I kind of expected the opposite.

I guess my main point was that the Komodo clearly has a significant leap in quality (to my eyes.) The C500ii, C70, and C300iii all kind of look similar.
The main reason the C300ii is better ergonomically is the viewfinder, the natural weight of the camera, the full sized XLR ports, the connections being on the back rather than the side, the relocatable grip, the movable monitor. The C70 needs a cage and monitor to even get close. The lack of an EVF in the C70 really sucks tbh. Again, this all depends on what you're doing. If you're shooting with a gimbal, monopod, or locked off, the C70 is better. If you're shooting handheld run and gun with something like the 24-105, then the C300ii is likely better.
The speed booster is awesome. There is vignetting when shooting wide open on some lenses. (this is related to the speed booster, not the lenses.)
Yes, you can magnify during recording.
Speaking of anamorphic. I did rent an Atlas 32mm over the summer. The aspect was pretty crazy because the lenses are 2x, but they did kind of remove the typical Canon look. Still kind of soft compared to the Komodo imo.

Gorgeous! C70 ticks so many boxes for me. It really sounds like the perfect cam for my needs (A-cam for an R6 replacing C100/C200).
I feel its really under-rated because of its form factor and no RAW or 6/8K.
At it's price point it's competing with the C300ii/6KP/Komodo/R5/R3/FX3/FX6.
All great cameras but the C70 really sounds like that perfect balance between all of them.

I agree with others, no doubt C300 Mk2 does the right thing, except for stills or 4k 60p, use the hybrid 1DX Mk2. Duck soup recipe in my opinion.

Have you used both? The 1DXii always seemed much sharper to me, but the C300ii has a smoother image. (Soft tho, even the 4K is soft.)
Those 4K 1DXii files are beautiful. The files are huge, but the resolution crushes the C300 in 60p.

That being said, the C300 Mk2 is one of my favorite cameras ever. So easy to use and always looks great.

Exactly. It’s the closest feeling to grading flat color negative film. It’s like paint.

I agree with avoiding the menus. I use the pocket with manual lenses, hard stop NDs and a light meter. Throw a 4 stop on there and rate it at ASA50. Just use the LCD for framing and ignore it for judging exposure.

The funny thing is, the bigger budget shoots I have been on, getting to use larger, nicer cinema cams, I usually also have a whole team of art design, beautiful set dec, gaffers and grip lighting everything so nicely, photogenic pro talent, hmu artists... By the time I get around to hitting the red button everything already looks incredible. Lighting is dialed, everything pre-planned, I don't really feel like I need the DR and flexibility of the high-end cine gear because it already looks incredible in-camera, and still would with much cheaper gear.
Contrast that with lower budget, run-and-gun stuff, that's when I'm going to potentially miss white balance or not be lighting as well and having to push the camera harder.
My point being, it's kind of ironic that on higher end work everything is so dialed in around the camera that raw, extreme DR, amazing color science, etc., is kind of a moot point, and it's on low budget work that I often really wish I could have that level of quality and flexibility to make up for other areas that are lacking.

Bump this up because today I found this out newer konova slider exists:
    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1550975-REG/konova_p1_s2_80_motorized_carbon_slider_p180cm.html
I have used sliders over the years and have an earlier konova slider with a motor and all this stuff and I never really used it that much.
I got a gimbal and eventually just kinda of used that for most video movement.
My main gripe with my konova was I had an earlier controller that didn't have proper timelapse functionality and although motorized sliders are cool for video, I feel like they're better utilized as a timelapse tool.
I went ahead and grabbed this one because the controller has that functionality now the new design looks good with that built in parallax thingy and the price was right.
I'll post back when it arrives and I get to check it out, but I thought it was worth sharing.

Sliders are definitely not underrated on professional shoots. Most grips have a Dana Dolly in the van and it gets used most shoots. Obviously movement is more limited than a gimbal but the results are far better.

Sliders are not run and gun. Thats my issue with them. Gimbals are on the other hand. You can still mimic a slider with gimbal with some skill and moderate slowmo and maybe tilt axis post stabilization.

Not excited. Once you start adding more channels it become unwieldy, requiring a cage, then a handle, etc., then what are we doing here? Might as well go for a Sound Devices mixpre which offers more flexibility.
I'd rather see Rode integrate the NTG w/ Wireless Go's

No surprises here, but I'd say it's the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera.
A modular cinema camera under $1000 brand new, uncompressed Cinema DNG RAW at 60p, and a beautiful image.
The image doesn't look like that second generation iPhone or camcorder that Canon love to imitate when clipped either..
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMb6CR781Kc
With Resolve it superscales to 4K beautifully too.  You don't actually want 4K, you just got trained by the camera brands that 1080 is bad because they compress the absolute living crap out of their images - no-one is rejecting the Alexa 1080p because it's not 4K!  With great quality RAW images you can push and pull them in post and they keep on giving and this is pretty darn close to that...
Plus it's the easiest camera to grade that I have ever seen.  Great images just appear when you drop a LUT or CST onto them, rather than struggling for hours to get good colours.

Nikon today launched the Z Fc. Formerly the Df retro plastic camera, Nikon has improved the concept with even more plastic and a smaller sensor. You can feel the retro authenticity during each buzz of the power zoom and the flappy plastic concealing a port used for live streaming. It's every film camera shooter's dream Minox Nikon! --- What did Df stand for anyway? What does Fc mean? Fruit cake? Football club? Are you OK Nikon??
