That place used to be cool.
The comments on the page and their facebook have been so toxic lately that there imo is absolutely no point in having any sort of discussion there. There is not one single article, about anything that's not met with nothing but hate. It could be an article about world peace and everyone gets mad and want war. No moderation. At least the articles where decent imo. And then they started to slip, click bait, bad fact checking and so on. The latest example was the success story that Leica has gone so far into the green that the investor that holds a minority share of 45% is ready to make a return and become rich. Some bogus bloggers made up a story about it and that's what NOFS is reporting. Not the original content from a credible news agency. They are actually speculating that a bank selling a share with no money passing through Leica would "save" a very profitable an growing company... sigh. And that's just one example. Normally I don't get to upset but I actually liked NOFS. I thought it was a great blog. But lately.. I don't know. There still is alot good stuff and fascinating articles.
Forums have been on a steady decline for a few years. The whole positive video movement is long dead imo.
But there at least was the blogs and this forum is still on the up-n-up if you ask me.
I don't really know what my point is, just venting.
Lately I have accepted that its mostly just the "Ass-Burgers" left online (wrote a blog about that a year or so ago). The pros and artists are out shooting and the rest have moved on to other hobbies.

This blog and forum I think is the only place where creativity and art can coexist with the charts people.
But its a battle, I see the scene in 300 where they are pushing them out of the passage with their shields.
Sorry for the rambling. Like I said, just venting.
    Stay strong

Step back and take a breath.
Canon product development aren't stupid. Neither are they at Nikon. And Nikon is barely at the hybrid video/stills party.
    So what's at play?
    Pure business strategy.
    You touched on it.
Camera companies could care less what Andrew Reid or I have on a wishlist.
    Why bother compete with Sony/Panasonic?
We sometimes forget that Japanese manufacturing operates as a giant consortium, with players 'accommodating' each other in support of the bigger picture.

I guess, sensor doesn't really effect the images as much as other features in a camera for me.
I rather have a 5mp picture of Elvis than a 50mp of the door he went into.

Thanks @Kubrickian. Your Insta looks cool, I will follow.
The x70 is a total gem and the only clear rival to the GRii. But they are very close imo. If the X70 gets a full press snap function or the GR a flip screen, then we imo will have the ultimate street shooter for candids.

Shot on the GH5 in 3 days. A concept trailer done having a zero budget for our upcoming first feature film.
I really like what I can squeeze out of the internal 10 bit V-Log footage. DR, lowlight and colors are really good.
Everything was shot with sharpening and nr set to -5 and a Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter applied in front of the lens (12-35mm 2.8 V1, 20mm 1.7, 42.5mm 1.7) to make it smoother. Colorgrading done in Davinci Resolve. Drone shots by the DJI Mavic (the internal sharpening is hideous tbh...).

It might just be me but it sounds like alot to ask for imo.
Its like asking Apple to include a tripod with the iPhone or that the C200 should include an external flash just because it can capture jpeg frames.
Its a DSLR not a video camera.
And Im not a video camera shooter per say. My XT2 is my only personal video camera and Im greatfull for its 4K. But I would have liked it at HD. And I would consider without any video at all.
(Im debating switching it for an Xpro-2. Or sell it all together and just use my SD Quattro which has no video at all and get a video camera for video.)

full time freelance editor here. I bounce around at a couple different companies whose clients are the major studios. for example, I cut this piece for the mummy.
the pay is great, frankly. i have been doing this sort of work for about ten years. I have also directed two features. the most recent was distributed internationally by paramount three years ago and we're still seeing good money from it. I don't spend more than I can afford on cameras and lenses, but am fortunate to be in a pretty good financial situation. No debt at all. My wife and I do not have kids. She also happens to be a film editor so she has an appreciation for my gear lust. But yeah, short version is that I work professionally editing and directing, and some of that income supports my personal collection of camera bodies, lenses, and support gear that i use more for fun, personal side projects that keep me sane.

I love my X-T2. I've only had it for about a month and used it mainly for stills so far. Planning on doing more video soon. I carefully chose my lenses around their IS zooms for video use and their weather-sealed primes for photo. Here's a couple shots I got in Hollywood.

I've sold all my gear to purchase a C200.. except for my XT2. This camera is something special, I just love it. Grip is indispensable imo. Camera is really inconspicuous too, great for shooting video in sensitive locations or putting at ease subjects for interviews. Of course camera isn't perfect. Biggest gripe for me is absence of internal log. But overall the 4K image is just formidable and requires little to no post thanks to excellent white balance and colour science.. the kit lens with OIS is also great and on it 80% time for video. I've also started using my Nikon glass on XT2 using a cheap adapter..

Well I do not agree with all of the above. It depends on what you are trying to do. I agree that shooting with a dslr is more fun, when shooting on vacation, or exploring new sites, event videos or weddings. But whenever your are shooting on a set, the lights are set, the grip is set, its all about getting that last 10% increase in quality for me, or trying to achieve it at least. The creativity for me atleast is what I do upfront the shoot (location, moodboard, storyboard, lighting, testing, as on a shootday...) I often quit watching some video's because they do not have that high end look to it (color,DR,bad grading, bad editing,...), and yet I know guys like Kendy are really great at what they do. But If you compare the quality between the t2I and a Alexa, its nowhere even close. I feel like its already outdated image quality wise.
Would I go backpacking with a Alexa, No not really. Would I rather shoot a narrative with a dslr, no not really.

I had the Mark V and the a6500. And let me tell you, I loved and hated both of those cameras.
The RX100 V is so damn cool for a pocket camera but I got an overheat warning, then shut down 30 seconds into shooting slow motion in the middle of winter. I had the screen away from the body and every little trick I found online about precautions. I got the warning while setting up the menu without ever shooting a second of video. So it's basically useless.
But I liked the sLog and Cine2 image so much I decided the a6500 and its bigger body would at least make it usable... it is " better" and man that is some of the nicest looking 4K I have ever used.
sLog3 almost reminded me of Raw video with its detail. I live in the middle of the woods, so the way cameras pick up the details on tree bark and leaves is very important to me and sLog3 looked damn close to Raw. And sgamut 3 cinema or whatever it's called is beautiful. The camera is well built and the 5-axis was a joy to use with my vintage Minolta lenses. But again... in 35 degree Fahrenheit weather, I got the overheating warning. It never shut off, but that was just too much for me for a $1300 camera. So I returned it.
Here's a small test video I did with it and sLog3 and cine gamut3. I can only imagine what you pros could do with it, if the overheating can be worked around...
When the camera gets down to the $800 range or less, I may pick up another one.
And here's a screengrab with lowlight in SLog2...

How about one of those USB drink coolers?     The flat ones you put a can or cup on? They only cost a couple of bucks.
If I had any over heating issues with my A7s that is what I would try.      I will get one shortly anyway to play with but when I had my Pentax DSLR that overheated at any time it would have been worth trying at least.

    (IMO)
I cant believe we are still having this discussion.
Canon is the number one best selling camera company. They haven't forgotten to put in 4K. Nor made a non thinking decision. Or because of conservatism. Or any of the other hundreds of reasons we will see on forums across the world.

They have made the decision based on MONEY!
They have spent lots of time, research, endless meetings, focus groups, analyzed data, you know... all that stuff that people in forums have absolutely not done.
And based on their findings they have made a decision.

So far they have been right every single time. No matter what Panasony puts in their cameras Canon is still outselling them.
And if that wasn't enough. This is the 6D... its always been their sub 5D model... And its an awesome stills camera. Aimed at the people out there who actually buys cameras.. stills shooters.
Now if they would have put 4K video and IBIS in their 6D. Driven the cost to the same level or at least to close to the 5D. And scared of the biggest bulk of the camera buying target group, who actually quite often gets mad about having to pay for video features...
Well that would have been truly stupid.
But whats most supricing of all.
This happens every single time. They are not now nor ever going to release a stills camera that will wow the video crowd. So just let it go.
Its the same thing when all the whining about Blackmagic delays are rolling the interent. Even though its how they do it every single time.

It's appropriate that a Kubrick fan would want this. I really suspect that this product isn't going to be very good, but there are times when I want a smooth zoom, too.
Another option is doing it the old school way and putting a lens gear on your zoom ring and using a wireless FF. A friend tried this with my 70-200mm and my DJI focus.
Mixed results. :/ Felt slightly granular and rough but only slight... it kind of worked. Definitely felt like a motorized zoom. Actually pretty darned good and obviously no aperture racking there.
For super great results, renting one of the Canon or Fujinon zooms might be the right way to go. But I'm not after the right way, just the cheap way and the easy way and the portable way.

If you want to breathe major new life into your 7D, look for a used Mosaic aliasing filter on eBay. It will also sweeten 7D raw in a big way.
