Apple quietly made a few upgrades to the Late 2015 iMac retina update, most notably the screen is now 10-bit and the SSD's are PCI-e 3.0 - which makes them ridiculously fast. I tested one side by side with my 6-core mac pro and the iMac smoked it. So I sold the trashcan and bought a loaded iMac, 1tb SSD, 32gb ram and the 395x card. How fast? Check this out.

Not sure what gains a refresh will bring, the new 10bit screen calibrates beautifully and the thing is so damn fast, plus Late 2015 moved to Skylake. Apple seems to be moving toward USB 3.0, I prefer a slew of ports over a breakout box.
Refurbs save about 15%, I bought used off Ebay and saved a little more, plus shipping was free and no tax - my machine was almost 30% off new price. Mine was only used for a couple months, so right now 33 months remain on the applecare warranty. Full spec on mine is 4.0ghz, 1tb SSD, 32gb ram, 395x video card with 4gb vram, it trounced my 6-core 3.5ghz with dual AMD500 video cards, 256gb SSD and 32gb ram. But the new iMac have the updated SSD's and I've read that larger SSD's are faster than the smaller ones. Its a powerhouse machine. My main gripe with the 2014's was the fan noise when pushed hard. That's the reason I went with the trashcan - its so quiet. I've only one the new one for a couple weeks, but I've yet to hear any noise from it at all.
Side note, the built in speakers sound surprisingly good, lots of bass with the sound reflecting off the desk. My studio monitors and headphones sound better, but they should.

I was waiting for the new iMac/s to be released & now i'm not so sure - might be cheaper to get a refurbished one?
Thanks for those speed test results, really interesting.
The whole FCPX hating was complete rubbish, as FCP7 was worlds ahead of PP & the only reason people stuck with it was because of AE - the rest was a shambles.
Hats off to Adobe for running a great negative campaign against FCPX, but those of us who went with it & stayed got the updates, which were always coming, and that have made it one of the most logical, fast & bug free editing programs out there. The redesign of Motion was also a welcome surprise.
Just hope they don't go the subscription route, but if they do i'd still pay them over Adobe - who really need to rebuild PP & fast, if they want to stay relevant!?

Its pretty funny reading all the comments trashing a camera before a second of footage has been released. Judging by what we've seen with the 1dxII, if the image is similar it will be very, very good. If only Ebrahim were here to write a 5,000 word essay on Canon's colors.
The 5d3 is over four years old and still a top seller, someone must be using it. 5d2's are even regularly used in broadcast productions. All this gnashing over specs is just measurbating.
Dual pixel AF and Canon's native lens selection makes this a very interesting camera for me - and I'm pretty heavily invested in the A7rII and lots of Sony glass.
Looking forward to samples and full details of the spec.
Does anyone get better scoops than Digicame-Info? They seem to be the ones that all the rumor sites feed off, kudos to them for having insiders everywhere.

With the fix, I've just ordered another one. Will run it next to the A7rII and see if its better than the one I had when it was first released.

As a taxpayer, I think the government has bigger things to worry about than digital piracy, any policing of this is a waste of time and government resources and any lawmaker that spends a second worrying about it - at least here in the U.S. - is usually bought and paid for by entertainment industry lobbyists. The endless extension of copyright laws is a perfect example.
Any proposal to create an organization to police a medium of free speech seems incredibly overreaching, Nazi and Communist comparisons are appropriate.
And no matter what, it still wouldn't stop piracy.

Also with IBIS move past the point you actually want to stop, if you get a wobble from the sensor settling down it won't ruin the shot. As always, slower is better, even with 5-axis.

The Nikon 1 series has some pretty amazing PADF capabilities, and had it before Canon or Sony, they can do mirrorless AF.
They're in a tough spot to do large sensor mirrorless because of their commitment to the F-mount, Sony isn't exactly lighting the world on fire with the kludgy LAEA adapters that mate A-mount glass to E-mount bodies, reception to and adapter will probably be equally cold.

I've had some time to play with the DJI X5R and for the first time, put it knee deep into a professional shoot with lots of flashy stage lighting (the video is a high end "fake live" shoot for an international events band.
So far, using this device is a very slow burner and I can't really make a judgement yet, but here's some things I've found. There are many negatives at first, however I'm trying to solve them and see what difference it makes in the long run.
What I do know is that this combination has a lot of potential, however this camera needs quiet a few firmware updates to get there. ProRes on board would be great!
I feel DJI didn't test this camera  enough before release. Had to deal with lots of annoying issues.
    Positives
Footage in 4k and HD raw an be spectacular - very clean and detailed (but only if you shoot and light skilfully!).  Very intuitive to use, combining the Osmo and Inspire 1. DJI Go app responds and works very nicely.  Stabilisation and handling is very different to a normal 3-axis gimbal like the Ronin, however getting to know it's behaviour can yield some awesome moves.  Walking bounce can be eliminated if you know how to "do the walk". Some shooters online are just not trying at all, letting the vertical movement bounce everywhere. Walk as flat a possible, all is good.  Unit is small and light - no balancing required. No big bulky cases. Nice and portable.  Low light is better than expected. GH4 level really.  Battery extender is very useful, if you need long periods. (lasts about 2 hours 45 mins on constant with Inspire 1 TB48). Proxy files look decent in good light. Handy to have when raw isn't an option.  1080p is very sharp. 4k is ridiculous.  The gimbal lock on the Osmo is sweet. You can pull off some crazy dolly moves and pans.
    Negatives
Autofocus on the app isn't great. Takes two tries and it MUST be on something of high contrast to work well.  Aperture resets overtime you switch off the device. Bit annoying.  As phone is a monitor, you need a USB power bank. I strapped one on the back of the mobile phone holder. Phone (iPhone) lasts 45 mins otherwise.  iPhone monitor image breaks up sometimes and lags quite a bit. Annoying if you are trying to do a smooth movement or judge focus/exposure.  Changing settings such as aperture can be fiddly. It just won't let you choose what you want sometimes.  Sometimes the unit goes into sleep mode a few seconds after you switch it on. SSD fan noise is like a shit hoover.  The internal audio with the cheap mic add-on is absolutely garbage.  It's hard to hold the X5R on the Osmo with one hand, while using the thumb controller. Two hands is better.  The SSD card reader is shockingly temperamental with Mac. Sometimes it doesn't mount at all. Have to use USB keyboard input on Mac. Doesn't work on the normal USB inputs.  DJI Cinelight is rubbish. Transcoding is very slow and the tweaking options are very basic.  Memory fills very quickly. HD is about 2 hours per SSD, where 4k is about 25 mins per SSD.  For long shoots , another SSD is almost essential. Just very very pricey.  Focusing can be difficult on apertures between f1.7 and f5.6 using the app. Seems like the expensive follow focus would be ideal (not on your wallet).  Normal OSMO batteries last about 7 minutes.  D-LOG on proxy files is a HUGE HUGE no-no!! It looks and grades horribly on the teeny 60mbps codec.
That's enough for now! More soon...... with images!!

Huh? I would bet they've made a ton of money on the cinema line. In Canon's last annual report the Cinema line was spotlighted as a segment for horizontal expansion moving forward - in other words its something they're plowing more resources in order to expand its reach. This isn't something they would do if they "lost a ton of money." We already have rumors of mkIII versions. The KPI's and gross profit ratio's show high margin cameras are doing well for them as unit volume decreases. Expanding the Cinema EOS reach is part of the next 5-year phase of their long term strategy, again not likely if it were not making money. The C100/300's have become one of the standard cameras in TV and news production, and virtually every rental house stocks them. All of those cameras you listed share components with high volume models which lowers development costs.

Sorry about the pathetic comment, the NX1 just keeps getting inserted into discussions on this board that aren't about the NX1. It seems like every new thread about Camera X has post after post showing how/why the NX1 is better than Camera X. Its a very closed system, and its dead. I'll head elsewhere to discuss the Fuji. But I digress, and I apologize.

If its a desktop, you can get a Mac Pro with a 4k monitor in the same price range. The 5k iMacs have a fan that I found annoying, if you're editing/rendering video or anything else that's processor intensive its on a lot. They also get really hot because there's so little space for air to move. You can get a 6-core with the dual 3gb graphics cards for $3400 from the refurb store. I have the same matching, bumped RAM to 64gb and it plows through everything. Plus you get more ports and its whisper quiet, it sits on my desk next to my monitor and I never hear it.
