    Yes, we were indeed.
I shamelessly lifted our conversation as the basis for that post 🙂
    Its OK.
Its a bit noisy, of course, so I definitely need to experiment with the exposure to get the most out of it, especially in piercingly bright sunlight like this, but even in this rough test (grabs from 1080/24p recording) it was easy to get it in to ballpark of the sort of style that we were discussing.

Yes, it does work on the LX10/LX15 but I haven't done the stepper test.
As far as I know, its the same sensor so should be the same but the FZ has a few more controls like master pedestal that could influence it.
These are from my hacked LX15 using Cinelike D and an old Sony camcorder Teleconverter attached with a magnetic filter adapter. The top row shows the wide end of the lens, the middle row shows the long end of the lens and the bottom row shows the long end of the lens with the TC attached. For anyone looking for a pocketable travel camera (at a cheaper cost and with a faster lens than the RX100) then the LX10/15 is a good option anyway but is far more versatile with the hack and the TC

You are talking to a man who bought the Philips CD-I at launch and declared it to be the future of home entertainment, so lets not be too hasty on the logic front.
Yep, the purpose was to come up with something akin to the WYSIWYG nature of reversal film and have the same rigid guideline of it having a fixed ISO (100 in this case) with a simulated push ability of a couple of stops so you can expose at ISO200 or ISO400 if needed.
So if you can't make the exposure at ISO400 then you need to light it, accept it as is or stop shooting !
The FZ is suited to this restriction for daylight use, as are similarly equipped cameras, because the internal ND makes the low ISO restriction easier to deal with
The other similar approach was to make something akin to negative film with the same restriction ISO wise but with an implicit 'developing' stage LUT/Preset.
The approach that I've kind of settled on is a hybrid by using the optional VLOG-L profile and single shot preset of three corrections and a LUT and taking the dogmatic approach of applying it equally and rigidly to every shot, even if an individual shot could be improved by a bit more tweaking.
I'm looking to re-instigate the discipline of shooting on Kodachrome back on myself albeit in a suspiciously sado masochistic manner !
I can't think of another camera that does everything it does in one unit but of course I can think of numerous ones that rinse it in terms of image quality.
So its always a question of whether the balance of all round functionality and ease of use outweighs the lack of comparative flat out image quality. Obviously that is a question of personal preference and/or the application you're using it for.
With regard to the lens by the way, the stabilisation at the long end is borderline witchcraft but the autofocus is not all that.
    Or even half all that.
It gets an handshake back from the camera for every command so it should let you know with a pop-up if something is amiss.
To double check, though, set your camera to one of the colour profiles and then use the stepper to go through the Black&White profile as the change from one to the other will be much more noticeable 😉
The simple solution is to knock it down to 1 second intervals so she only has to sit motionless for 4 hours !
What I would do for the first pass is not alter the sharpness and noise reduction so just leave their range to be 0 and 0 and then just use the colour and contrast permutations.
Once you are happy with a specific colour and contrast permutation then do another pass with those set as the range (so if colour was 2 then just set the range to be 2 and 2 etc) and then do permutations of the sharpness and NR.
Again you can also reduce the permutations of the second pass considerably by clamping the upper limit of sharpness and NR to way below 5 as there is a lot of nastiness at those levels.
Having said that, you never know whether some bizarre combination of +4 sharpness and +5 NR might not open up a secret portal into an incredible look !

Grimor got a reaction from IronFilm in Panasonic GH5S Timecode might be majorly flawed
Well, I just found the solution to my problem. The Drop Frame (DF) option on GH5 must be activated to compensate for the delay of the HDMI connection. The point is that I used PAL system frequency and under this frequency the DF cannot be activated. So you just have to switch to Cinema or NTSC frequency system to unleash that option.

If you're happy to add an Atomos Ninja V (or a Blackmagic recorder) then I don't think they've got weak video specs at all.  Plus when it comes to stills, you've got a good advantage that you can tap into the Nikon ecosystem.

This is also a good reason why a person should stick with one camera system for as long as possible, rather than jumping back and forth every other year.

As let's be honest, even the "worst choice" (if picking a current model) in what is now nearly 2022 is still going to be damn good at both video and especially stills!

So stick with it, and get 100% out of it. Rather than choosing "the best" and only getting 80% out of it.

Yeah, I've made that point a number of times, except relating to camera size, and it's frustrating as hell.
As soon as you want something smaller, it instantly comes with less.  Less bitrate, less bit-depth, less DR, less IQ, just... less.
It's like the logic seems to go:
Me: I'd like to have high image quality in a small and simple rig The world: Then use a large camera Me: You didn't hear me - I want a small simple rig The world: Then use a 35Mbps 8-bit 8-stop point-and-shoot Me: You didn't hear me - I want high image quality AND a small simple rig The world: Here's an FS5, cine prime, 7" monitor, matte box filter set on an easy-rig Me: No, I need something that is almost pocketable The world: Why do you need something so small? Me: In order to be able to take it where I want to film, which is places where "professional" filming isn't allowed The world: If size matters then why do you need high image quality Me: I shoot in uncontrolled conditions with no lighting or control and need lots of latitude in post The world: Well, if you want both then..  um..  err.. well..  you shouldn't.  You should want what is available. Me: Why don't you make something with high image quality in a small and simple rig? The world: No-one wants it! Me: *facepalm*

I'll bite. I can shoot 12bit 8K DCI RAW internally with my R5. Why do I need this? And, no, I do not experience overheating problems (though I have to be mindful). And, right now one cannot record 8K on the Ninja V+ with the R5. There still needs to be a firmware update. So, no one can report the advantages, if any.

You make fair points, but then ask why the discussion is so binary - just look at the statement you make above.
What is fascinating is that you use the word reliable - no camera has a reliable AF system.  None.  There are literally no cameras available on earth that you could use to 100% get the AF right.  The GH5 isn't 100%, but neither is the Sony A7S3, or the Canon R5 either.
I've seen multiple shots in recent vlogs where the camera focuses on the background, or on the foreground, or just stops, and these are shots that are making it into the final edit.  Think of how many out of focus shots the GH5 created and how few ended up in the edits of YouTubers, then apply that to the PDAF/DPAF cameras and so even they are screwing up on a semi-regular basis.
The GH5 was a roaring success without good AF, and lots of people buy it, even now, despite the millions (billions?) of comments online about how the AF is not reliable.
Would the GH6 be a better selling camera if it had PDAF?  Absolutely.  Will PDAF give it "a good and reliablish AF system"? Hell no.
Does it "need" a "reliable" AF system?  No, because such a thing doesn't exist.

I am not enjoying your rants, Andrew, because (a) it’s a losing game, (b) makes you come across as bitter and (c) doesn’t seem to be your ‘groove’ and doesn’t accentuate your differentiation and strength.

Whether you are right or wrong isn’t the point; you can’t change the rules of the game and it doesn’t make for entertaining content.
In my opinion, your strength is the intersection point between technology and creativity (I would love to see more of the latter to balance the tech side).
You aren’t competing with bloggers, YouTube’s or even cinematographers if you create your own category.
And that doesn’t mean you can’t voice a strong opinion as part of your concept. I just would rather see you fight FOR something instead of AGAINST.

I don't watch most of those Canadians anymore. On Youtube, you really need to look for authenticity because you won't find it in almost any of the bigger channels. I've been watching for a long time now to see it go from authentic (and often normal) to shameless self/product promotion. 99% are simply infomercials, nothing more. You can still learn and laugh from them, but that is still the core of what they do.

It was pleasant to watch, and I know many here especially @Andrew Reid could also be interested. Scott, actors and people who worked on the film are interviewed and share their views, their opinions on the impact of the movie and what it forecasted of our present.

There was a recent reaction video that @Tito Ferradans posted, reacting to a video about anamorphic lenses that was published on another YT channel.  Apart from fact-checking the other video, almost to death considering that it got a lot of information wrong about anamorphic lenses, Tito also mentioned that the other video had used shots from his video without permission, and that he went through the process to have it taken down as they used his content without his permission.
So I think you're meant to get permission, regardless of the circumstances, and if you don't then you leave yourself open to take-down requests.  I've heard instances where people had their own content taken-down by other people who claimed their content as their own, and the mechanisms seemed to be skewed towards taking the content down, instead of leaving it up by default.
Also, considering I mentioned Tito and anamorphics, go watch his channel - it's awesome!

Grimor reacted to Lucifer Morningstar in How do you shoot on anamorphic lenses?
    Hello everyone,,
I know that anamorphic lenses warp the image, which would mean that you can't play a take back to see how it looked. How would you shoot this way?
Do you basically just shoot like you're shooting it on film (by making sure that the scene looks as good as possible, but getting the coverage needed, just in case)?
Or, how can/should you shoot on anamorphic?

Thank you, you made my earlier point that I've been repeatedly saying.
    Video professionals.
    Not audio professionals.

Or in other words, you're taking your recommendations for audio from people who don't place a #1 priority on audio.
This is very much like going onto graphic design forums and asking for advice on cameras, and being recommended a Canon 5Dmk3 or mk4 (or a T2i at the lower budget end).

Are they still "capable cameras" which can get the job done? Yes, of course they are.

Are they in most cases a good recommendation in 2021? Hell no!!

They're an outdated sub optimal choice.

Same is true of the G3/G4/416/etc, yet people keep on parroting recommendations (just like is happening in this thread) without any wider and deeper understanding of the context they have against the current competition. Just like people who brought a 5Dmk4 for filming with because their friend used a 5Dmk3 for years and recommended it to them. (you know many of those people existed for 5D buyers!)
And Audio Ltd. And Wisycom. And Shure. And Q5X. And....
You do realize it is my full time job (when we're not in lockdowns... gah) I have working in the sound departments on film/tv sets? I live, dream, and breath this every moment.
I've got exactly ZERO connection to Sony whatsoever (aside from owning Sony cameras/lenses/wireless, all of which I purchased with my own money). I've never even ever communicated with anybody from Sony even once! (aside from when I rang them up once to find out the costs in NZ to do the 4K upgrade for a FS700)
I've laid out my reasons earlier in this thread as to why I see Sony UWP-D21 as the best sub US$1K buy for new wireless. (address those, rather than ad hominems)

With Lectro 200 series (or with a bit of luck, 400 series) as the best sub $1K buy if going secondhand.

While Deity Connect Wireless being the best choice at the level below, if you're forced to look for a wireless for roughly half the cost of a Sennheiser G4. However, if you're going this dirt cheap I'd be starting to suggest you consider wired lavs instead (or perhaps maybe even the new bodypack recorders that hit the market recently).

Grimor reacted to Snowfun in Coronavirus survey part 2 - how are work & incomes going?
    I’ll start.
The first thing to say is that I am extremely fortunate insofar as the pandemic has (with the exception of not being able to head north for the winter) been extremely positive. Working for a University the move to deliver lectures and other meetings online has been so much fun. An opportunity to build a green screen “studio” (around an Atem mini) and “play” with different techniques for online delivery. Everyone else in the institution has been screen sharing in Teams/Zoom - but it’s so easy with a little investment of time and money to dramatically improve on that.
Last week I discovered the Aida HD100A - so much more convenient to use than the P4k and the reduction in quality won’t be noticed. And since a Video Assist is doing the recording (HDMI output from Atem) the simple Aida is perfect.
Simple things like “top and tail” a video - adding a title sequence and some simple credits is a huge improvement over the usual first few seconds watching the lecturer fiddle around and settle.
But... I am aware that not many will have been so fortunate. Yes, I need to get out more (I need to get to a post office!) but life at home has overall been positive.
”Filmmaking” has “saved” the work I do. Without being able to produce short films and negotiate live video sessions life would have been miserable. But that’s easy to say when ones income is not directly linked to the ability to create short films.
    That’s my perspective.
