Yes please! This would be huge for me and my uses. a sort of loss less digital zoom/crop.   Range from 1.5x(std APS-C) to  about 2.4x.

I think we are just dreaming though.

In my testing I've found it to be around 1.15 additional crop. Maybe its adaptive to how much shake is going on? I did the test on a tripod and compared. 24mm with dis was equivalent to about 27.5 mm non dis. My test is not 100% accurate or scientific either.

When it comes to hacking maybe there is something in the code that defines the crop amount of DIS? I wonder if its just a digital crop or it its actually cropping in on the sensor. If it's sensor crop then maybe we can modify this to get a pseudo crop for extra telephoto and less rolling shutter

Yeah try DIS with OIS on, it's very smooth on the 16-50 S. Tripod like if you hold still. I personally wouldnt use DIS without ois turned on if the lens supports it.

But I'm a fan of DIS turned on with vintage adapted glass too.

This tube is compatible more or less with the bayonet system attachment of the LX100, so I can fix the system on the camera with care, much better than fixing it on the fragile zoom...

This would be great for easily matching the nx1 with nx500 If they would include all the color profiles.
We should let them know that nx500 users would like this too. So that opens up the demand a lot more.

I am shocked by how good it came out.  Mixed F35, A7S, everything - especially at the waterpark.

shanebrutal reacted to Mattias Burling in Using Andrews NX1 Log LUT on the NX500
So I bought an NX500 since its cheaper than chips, pocketable and can cary all my Nikon lenses.
Also the Samsung Pancakes are even cheaper theses days.
But I was a bit jealous about the Log LUT from Andrew that people put on their NX1 footage. The NX500 doesn't have the DR setting.
I decided to experiment and here is what I have so far.
Disclaimer: Im not a colorist. I just want it to look decent and be able to use the LUTs I normally use. But mostly I want the footage to behave like I expect it to. I haven't tried to nail the skin or anything. Im mainly looking at latitude here.
Firstly I tried to use the OSIRIS Rec 709 to Log LUT. But that looked like garbage.
Next I tried to use Andrews NX1 LUT and curves. This looked much better, but it felt very uneven and un-precise.
So I tested to flip through the PPs and found that "calm" gave a pretty decent result.
    Picture Profile "Standard"
This is done with Edit Ready and Andrews LUT

    Picture Profile "Standard"
Here I put on a LUT for Generic Log (same will be used through out)

    Picture Profile "Calm"
    Same as above

    Picture Profile "Calm"
    Same as above

As you probably see, the LUTs can be used with a bit of tweaking and curves. But the big cow on the table is the black in the pillow and on the chart.
That the darkest square is crushed, fine, but the entire pillow... no thanks.
No matter what I couldn't get it to work. I realized that if I could switch the Luminance in the camera ll would be fine... but thats a NX1 feature...
    So I gave up.
But before I went to bed I thought I try converting in Rocky Mountain and then ad Andrews LUT in post. But when opening it I realized it also supports input Luts (don't remember if it used to).
    And Bingo!
    Picture Profile "Calm"
    Andrews LUT + Rocky Mountain

    Picture Profile "Calm"
Andrews LUT + Rocky + Grade LUT

Its late but I feel that Im on the way to getting me a decent workflow. Its no super important for this camera since its a BTS/travel camera for me. But still, I want footage to behave the way I expect it to when coloring.
Hopefully Im free in daylight to actually shoot with the thing soon. Will try to match it to the Red as well.
    /M
    EDIT:
One more with a Osiris Kodak Vison LUT + Grain

I'm working on two attachments, plus a series of integrated primes.  The smaller of the attachments would have 72mm rear threads, and I want to price it so that independent film makers and videographers can afford it.  I'm not far enough along on the other products to have a good feel for pricing yet, but its my intention to compete with the best products out there (e.g., Hawk, Cooke, Panavision, etc.) at a very compelling price.

Im sorry to say that the refrigerator will go into the next round. Thats right folks, two refrigerators in the next jackpot round of "Guueeeeesss the Cameraaaa!!" (fading boxing announcement voice)
    Correct answer was.....

    A NX500 with a Nikkor 35mm f1.4 in almost no light.

Here's a quick grade I did of some footage I shot with G7 and the Super Takumar 35mm f2. It was shot with Natural profile with everything dialed down except contrast and saturation.
I know a few other people have the G7, would love to see your progress.

shanebrutal reacted to Brian Caldwell in 1.79x Squeeze Anamorphic
I've recently started numerous anamorphic lens projects based on the idea that 1.79x squeeze is the ideal ratio when dealing with a 4:3 sensor .  It's often stated that 2x squeeze on 4:3 gives you the DCI standard 2.39:1 scope ratio, but of course this isn't quite true.  If you really want a perfect mapping of 4:3 to 2.39:1 without having to crop the sides, then the correct math  is:  2.39/(4/3) = 1.7925, which I'll round off to 1.79.  So, for the ARRI Alexa, RED Dragon and Panasonic GH4 used in 4:3 mode it seems to me that 1.79x is ideal.  Also, if you consider the Alexa in its Open Gate format (1.55:1) you get 1.55 * 1.79 = 2.77:1, which is almost exactly equal to the classic Ultra Panavision 70 (2.76:1 aspect ratio).
You might be concerned that 1.79x wouldn't give enough anamorphic artifacts, but based on my experience so far it seems that the artifacts are very similar to 2x, and in addition there are significant advantages in size, weight, cost, and image quality.  Some time ago I built a 1.80x prototype that used very traditional rear-group focusing with counter-rotating astigmatizer aberration compensation, and found that it compared very favorably to a similar-spec 2x 140mm Hawk V-Lite:

So, my question is, since I'm about to start spending money like crazy developing this stuff, am I crazy to be going in this direction?

    Here's what I did:
    1. Plug the NX1 into the VA and set output to 1080p
    2. Hit the d-pad right once to get to video preview
    3. Hit the d-pad up four times to clear the overlays from the monitor.
    Give it a shot!

In the past, I've found the two usually don't go together. But if you search hard enough, a sharp zoom can cut it. First test I shot using the Anamorphic Shop's Focus Module with a Schneider Cinelux MC and a Nikon 35-70 f3.5 on the a7s. ClearImage zoom was set to 1.3 to avoid vignetting across the full focal range (full coverage on MTF it seems). Most of this was shot wide open on the lens. Just sharp enough for my tastes. Hopefully in the coming days I'll get a test out using the 80-200 f2.8.

Big news for us nx1 users indeed! Dare I say the native h.265 files look better/more detailed than the transcoded ones?  I'll have to do a side by side comparison. But wow yeah these files play super smooth and edit perfectly on my system.

Great suggestions ... I'd like to see these if there is ever another FW update or an NX2
    1) Ability to use AF-S in Video ... move the focus point around where ever you want and it stays there instead of going to AF-C when you press record
    2) Choose anywhere in the screen to magnify in MF mode instead of just the centre
    3) Peaking to stay on all the time
    4) Ability to change between EVF and LCD during recording
