I read that you're pretty much gonna have to use the grip if you wanna do video and with three batteries it'll give you as much time as a GH4 with one battery. Anyway, with the power booster grip you're looking at about $2,000 grand. Seems like a very tough sell in this market, especially for a company that has not been known for their video up till now.

Owned the NX1, outside of the S zooms, the rest are mediocre, the pancakes are especially dreadful if you want to MF, no BB AF either - a basic staple of just about any decent camera including the most basic Canon Rebel from 2003. Fuji's lens selection is vastly superior - and its what attracts many shooters to the X-mount. Samsung's are a joke in comparison.
Nobody shopping Fuji cares about a dead system with a limited lens selection. Fuji's ergos, exposure controls on the body, the MF clutch mechanism and actual aperture rings are miles better than the NX1.
Let it go, its a Fuji discussion, nobody cares about your precious NX1.

This camera stops recording after 10 minutes in 4K and 15 minutes in 1080p to prevent overheating? It seems this camera has the same weaknesses as the A6300: You can't use it for long continuous recordings and it will probably have the same bad rolling shutter if it does 6K to 4K oversampling (would surpise me if Fujifilm has improved RS where Sony couldn't). Although, even with those weaknesses it beats A6300 with much better ergonomics and lens selection. Wasn't the introduction price of the X-T1 $1299? $1599 seems a bit too pricey imo just like the A6300 which was also overpriced compared to A6000. GX80/85 seems to offer a lot more bang for the buck if you ask me.

I also have high hopes for this camera but you never know if there is a deal breaker lurking somewhere around the corner, especially from a company that didn't give much thought to video side in the past. IMO it is better to be patient and wait for reviews and GH5 arrival, and then make a decision.

The Camera will cost (in Japan) 160,000 Yen (Body), then if you want to shoot 30" you will need to add 43,000 Yen for the Battery grip and 1 Batteries at 9,000 Yen??? (I presume that you can use the one given with the camera and only need to by a spare one)

It quickly start to be expensive. The price was attractive, after all it is price in Japan at the same price that was the GH4 when launched... But adding the cost of the Battery grip and another battery... Not sure now.

Yes, this is a beautiful camera indeed. A friend of mine has the T1. I like everything about Fuji, except that their lenses are big and expensive... Will wait for the GH5 because of the whole ecosystem. For studio work this is no problem, but I do not go back to bulky systems when outdoors.

When the A6300 overheats at 10min it's total crap. When Fuji does it it's brilliant because it can be increased to 30min with a grip, nevermind the fact that one can be used on the A6300 for the same effect

Isn't this the case with any hybrid cam that has 1/8 inputs? I use a DR60D for interviews and dialogue, and I run the camera out (1/8th) to the NX1's mic in and make sure the gain is correct at each stage. If I have time to tweak the levels (mic level, camera out level, NX1 mic level), I don't have to synch - the NX1 is capable of really nice, crisp audio with low noise - if it's fed a well preamped signal. I found this to be the case with my Nikon bodies as well.
For decent hybrid-cam audio, you really need a preamp to feed the camera line-level - but with 60D's being so cheap, might as well use that - you get (usually) useable camera tracks, and all the Tascam bells & whistles (mainly those minus 6 DB safety tracks, phantom powered XLRs, etc) Price wise it's like a very good preamp with a free recorder.

I kinda like my GH3... had the choice between Alpha99 and Mark III back then.. didn´t make an upgrade to the GH4, the 4k was not necessary for me at that time and the iq didn´t seem to improve significantly... Gh5 will be another crossing, stay in m43 system or go another way.. the sensor size, with its low light flaws is a real downer but Panasonics commitment of delivering surprises is indeed loyalty worthy... though.. it will probably just be the small extra tip on the scale if two cameras/systems tie...
I hope they improve their jpg/color engine... I´d rather take a lovely out of cam picture in favour of grading every single log clip just the little bit better..

I totaly love Sony's Slog 3 profile set on cine 4. Since I fly and travel light allot, a7s(ii) and 6300 are my favorite cams all time. I like the skintones better on the slog3 then any pp of the GH4.
But we will see if it will be GH5 or A7s3. Time will tell.
(Terra is worth a consideration also)

    GH Wish List
    1. Better autofocus - for smooth touch screen focus pull. Along the lines of Canon's DPAF.
    2. Full HD at 120fps or higher. 240fps would be sweet.
    3. IBIS

yeah, since it seems Panny may have fixed the colours a bit (gx85), have the ibis now, if they improved the autofocus, codec and rolling shutter the GH5 would be the best hybrid for video yet for sure!

You forgot a very very important point: Autofocus. Panasonic really lacks a good AF and if we could have a similar AF as A6300 that would be really awesome.
Just because of this I will hesitate between 5d4 and GH5

Yes, i'm afraid I agree that it'll be the same old 4:2:0 8 bit, just with 4K/60p
Even the DVX200 only shoots in 8 bit, so it would be surprising to see this get 10 bit, though I hope it does. Someone has to break that barrier in a hybrid cam

I'd call the a7rII a "REAL" hybrid that already exists - IBIS, mic/headphone jack, great video, class leading stills/DR and something Panasonic really lacks... PADF.
It would be nice if Panasonic would dump everything into a pro oriented GH body including 10-bit internal and so on, but we've been saying that for years to no avail. Just like Sony and Canon, Panasonic wants you to buy a higher end camera.
IMO it'll get IBIS and a higher bitrate, but it'll still be the same old 8-bit 4:2:0 internal.
Panny should dump the goofy YAGH and do an external recorder with XLR inputs, they have all the tech in house and could easily build a unit that crushes Blackmagic's offerings. But again like Sony and Canon, there doesn't seem to be any interest (or High profit margins) in low volume products at consumer price points.

Atomos uses Sony NP-F batteries or D-Tap or DC-In.
My Shogun has an Aluminium Cage. They are VERY cheap to have. It also has locks for the HDMI ports and an extremely stiurdy protection for the XLR in+out and power port.
The Flame/Inferno are supposed to have a better case to not need such a thing.
The Chris: You left out LUTs for display+output (VERY Handy for a GH4 with V-Log) and that the display is and can be calibrated.
I'm planning to use mine as a mobile grading monitor when traveling with a calibratable 17" 10-bit LCD is inpractical.
If you are into cheap media for long sessions... try beating a 960GB Sandisk for about 200eur in SD-cards for 4K or gigantic mechanical HDDs for FullHD.
If you want to work fast...why copy that SD-card? The Atomos is SATA, just edit from it right away.

I'm looking forward to upgrade to a Shogun Flame or Inferno at some point.

Yea, the A5100 has its limitations, definitely: I use it with an Atomos Ninja2: no overheating, no 30 minute recording limit, it has microphone jack and headset jack. The 1080 image quality (no 60p, unfortunately) is excellent with this combo. The A5100 has brilliant accurate/snappy/shimmer-free a touch to focus function because of the 179 PDAF points at least as great as the 70D/80D dual pixel. It's not 4K, but excellent HD combo. I use a Swivi LCD viewfinder with the A5100, not tiltable, though. I wouldn't say my A5100+Atomos combo is better than XC10; but, the XC10 is better only daylight and all for more than double price (let alone the crazy prices of CFast cards). Andrew recently reviewed the Panasonic GX80 with Blackmagic Video Assist 4K, and I found it quite impressive. If I wanted to upgrade, I'd go in that direction, or something like that. Unless, Canon would be so kind to come out with something reasonable in the meantime. No 1" again for me, please, I don't care if it's Canon/Sony/Panasonic/Nikon.
Yes, but you, Andrew, evaluated that the AF is pathetic, and MF is very hard to use (unusable). How can you focus this camera then?

Yes, sure, but, the XC10 is priced as if it were a full-frame ISO400k :-)
Anyhow, I am impressed with your reply, thank you so much, Andrew. Keep up your great reviews, it's a pleasure to read them. You are pointing out important facts, your hands-on experiences; I've especially learned a hell lot from your GX80 review, that was phenomenally revealing.

It's funny I've had the opposite reaction towards this camera. Thought it was interesting on paper (4K, 422, decent codec & canon log under $2K had me sold) but in actual use it was a huge let down. Number one issue the lens and specifically the unusable focus ring. I see MF listed in the cons of the review but it can't be stressed enough how shitty it is. It seems Andrew may overcome this issue because he considers the AF to be ace but it isn't DPAF good either imo, and goofy MF is a deal breaker for me. I was also far from blown away by the IQ, but this type of lens just isn't my cup of tea I'm afraid..

All cameras are good these days.  If you're still a spec sheet nerd, good for you.  The pros I know will use anything that ultimately does the job.  Even cheap "plasticy" cameras with lower build quality.  Hey, sometimes you don't need a camera to last 5-10 years.  Honestly, with the way the market moves, why would you?  The things are practically disposable now.
1" sensor?  Big deal.  Shallow DOF has become wildly overrated and overused.
This camera was on my radar as I do a lot of doc work.  I have no doubt it would look fine the way I shoot.  Ultimately, I decided to go with the GX85 for numerous other reasons, (the fact that I have loads of M43 glass and I need two of 'em)
The other main reason being that the GX85 looks like a simple stills camera and doesn't intimidate anyone or call attention to itself by looking like a professional piece of gear.  That's a huge "feature" for what I need to do.  That need I take very seriously.  And in my mind it offers a HUGE advantage over "pro" gear.  How would you put that on a spec sheet??
Quite simply, if the XC10 solves an important production problem, no doubt I'd buy it.  Certainly others are doing so.

When this came out, I was disappointed by the screen doesn't  articulate to the side...like many "camcorders". The ability to handhold/place in unique positions is hindered when you have to plant your head behind the camera. I get to some degree why they went Cfast with high bit rate/depth 4k at the time. But is the ability to record the HD to either card that difficult? Same with RAW stills.
For the talk of it being a pro cam, the recruiting of Jackie Chan for the roll-out seemed muddled. The pre-NAB '16 suggestions from Canon that a big update was coming really seem disproportional to what they delivered. BTW, here  you mention the Video assist as an XLR etc solution. As I posted in the GX80 thread, did you get a good one from the get go?(green hue, dropped frames) Some report the fan noise of the 4k assist to be of concern in close quarters.
All that being said, I applaud you for having an open mind to revisit this cam beyond the specs. Maybe a further exploration of this cams baked footage and C-log after judicious post sharpening is in order.
