It's so close it looks just as cinematic really. It's mostly convenient for shooting in 50hz countries, so I use it in the UK for example.

TBH I sometimes use it in the US too, at 150-degree shutter ;)

thats Lomo is a brick - its massive very hard to rig up as its barrel is so wide and it weighs a ton , hang that off the front of a Nikon 28-70 and you will rip the front of the Nikon lens clean off
The Nikon front is delicate as it extends 1 inch when zooming and you do not want to hang anything heavy off it , NDS are fine just not massive Lomos

I would advise you against even buying the Lomo to try shooting a feature film , it will take you x4 longer than normal just to use the Lomo as its duel focus and huge . - avoid

Shoot spherical and frame for 2.39 and add black bars in post - thats what they did on the last James Bond film Skyfall and the Bourne films too and so many Arri Alexa shot films these days , its accepted industry practice these days -

I don't like the look of Full frame at all ,
...they dont shoot movies full frame in Hollywood! (Vistavision is dead!)
I shot with Canon 5ds for 2 years then stopped and switched to micro 4/3
I personally do like the look of the Nikons with a speedbooster on micro4/3 it looks pretty stunning to me, as its closest to Super 35mm film cameras -

just as a point of note on lenses for films :
David Fincher shoots most of the time with the same lens focal lengths even when he changes his DOP
so even if it is Jeff Cronenwerth, Harris Savides or Darius Khondji on camera for him he is still using a 27mm 40mm most of the time and a 75mm for the close ups , at f2.8 with nds and at f2 at night , thats about it , most of the film is shot on those 3 lenses thats all he needs
(page 162 of the book 'New Cinematographers' gives you a look at Harris Savides note book for the film 'The Game' he lists scene by scene what lens he uses and its f stop ....its mainly all 27mm 40mm 75mm at f2.8 or f2....

The late great Gordon Willis shot 90% of The Godfather series for Francis Ford Copolla on a 40mm f2.8 lens - if you get this months American Cinematographer magazine OCT 2014 its a special edition all on Gordon Willis - The Prince of Darkness and it reveals all on how he shot these great films .

Then you have Paul Greengrass who uses long zooms all the time and the late Tony Scott who shot almost always on long lenses and used x2 extenders too, thats his 'look '

And then the great Sergio Leone shot all those Clint Eastwood 'Dollar' series films on a single Angenieux 25-250mm f3.5 zoom

So my point is you dont always need very wide lens to make great films .....

as long as you have in Super 35 field of view a 28mm. 40mm and 70mm which the Nikon zoom gives you ,you can make a film.....what camera you use to get those lengths is upto you , you may need speedboosters or adapters but those are the numbers that work for me most of the time.

if you want lenses you can keep long term then dont buy micro 4/3 Rokininons
I would get a Nikon 28-70mm f2.8 IF D , it is a steller lens as used on THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM, CASINO ROYALE, QUANTUM OF SOLICE etcetc
no focus breathing , very sharp and covers the range of 4 primes , 28, 35, 50 and 70mm plus if you put it on a speedbooster it becomes a 20-50mm f2 monsters lens !! very fast for night shooting and even sharper and wider .

I have 2 of these and they are now my main go to lenses !!

you can shoot wide open at f2.8 all day long an it is pin sharp with a superb bokeh and very very filmic look
this lens is the closest you can get to a £15,000 Carl Zeiss 28-80mm f2.8 cinema PL mount lens
    http://***URL removed***/articles/4439044609/carl-zeiss-presents-28-28mm-t2-9-cinema-zoom-lens

AND it has less focus breathing than the Carl Zeiss.....it is an amazing lens get one it will last a lifetime.

its sister lens is the Nikon  80-200mm f2.8 IF D also used on Bourne Ultimatum - this the is killer!!

with these 2 lenses and a speedbooter you can shoot 90% of a feature film!
all with a constistant glass look and matched colours so no issues in post as its all the same great Nikon glass !!
    it works !

FD fit Zeiss are the cheap Sigmas made in Japan and branded Zeiss - these where sold in Jessops style camera shops 20 years ago
    avoid -

they are called Carl Zeiss Jena II and have sky blue lettering on the lens caps and lens barrels

they are cheap and Ok but identical to their Sigma equivilants.....no way near as good as the Yashicas ML range and Zeiss C/Y range.

the Canon FD 35-105mm is the perfect partner for the Canon FD 24-35mm L Series they are very similar in look so work well together

Plus the 35-105mm is a great lens and cheap

buy the book 'New Cinematographers ' by Alexander Ballinger.

it is a gold mine of infomation on how to shoot films and what lenses and f stops are used , with drawings and breakdowns on big Hollywood films and how they did it .

you will see most Feature films very rarely shoot above f2.8 or f2 max in low light

    mostly shoot lower f5.6 etc
Darius Khondji shot Alien Resurestion at f2.8 , he lit all the sets the whole moive for that stop. the Great Freddie Young didn't like going over f3.5 - (read his autobiography its very good)

if you want bokeh - use a telephoto lens to isolate the subject from the background that way .
thats how these guys do it - have a read of the book!!

and dont forget Movie Cameras (Alexa, Epic, Super 35mm etc) are not full frame !

Formatt make a great diffusion filter - same quality as Tiffen but cheaper

Formatt Super Mist 1/4 is a nice filter less harsh than Tiffen Promist 1/4
I only ever use these filters when shooting close ups for girls/actresses faces or it can end up looking like 1970's Penthouse porn if you are not carefull!! beware!! haha!

Canon FD lenses are great optically and cheap

as a general all rounder you cannot beat the 35-70mm f4 it costs about $25 on ebay and is optically amazing almost as good as my Zeiss lenses , add it to a FD speedbooster and you have an approx  25-50mm f2.8 all metal constant apperture zoom (with internal zoom and focus!!) with practically zero distortion across the whole range this lens is great

After trying out various settings with the GH4, my impression is that the best way to shoot with it is as with my G6.
One of my last shoots with my G6 was for an Ikea commercial. The other cameras on that shoot were Sony F5's and F55's. In the final edit, there's no way to tell which shots were my G6 and which were the Sony's. Same thing with another shoot with Sony's ànd a Red.
On the G6, I shot with the NATURAL profile with contrast, sharpness, noise reduction all the way down.  Saturation and hue are dialled in depending on what the scene needs.  I don't touch Master Pedestal at all, nor do I mess with the shadows and highlights.

This gives me a very flat image with proper skintones that grades very well and carries none of the noise that seems to plague the GH4 when shooting with Cinelike D or V.
I also suggest to keep the ISO at 400 (even though 800 is supposed to be the native ISO) and use ND filters when needed.  Or adjust the shutterspeed if you're after that look or have no ND.
I also use a Speedbooster clone with fast Canon FD lenses, which gives a decent low light performance with the GH4.
Finally, I record most of my serious work on an Atomos Ninja, so the 10-bit definitely helps, as does shooting in 4K and having the camera downconvert to 2K through HDMI.

it uses ED glass elements not aspheric elements the 24mm f1.7 - that sounds good to me as it will have a more cinematic look rather than the fully mega sharp aspheric clinical look of panny and olympus lenses

go watch all the Tony Scott Directed films as he shot almost always on the long end of lenses often with x2 extenders ,
Top Gun , Days of Thunder and my Favourite for long lenses - the Taking Of Pelam 1 2 3 (the remake not the DP Owen Roisman original classic) that gave his films that fast style , long lenses are great for movement shots

also watch all the Sergio Leone Dollar Trilogy with Clint Eastwood -  (he used and Angenieux 25-250mm f3.8 to shoot the entire movies the odd shot on fast primes at night but 90% on that one Angenieux )  long lens extreme closes ups where Sergio's trade mark
he shot 2 perf Techniscope on spherical lenses.

I prefer long lenses any day to wides !! long lenses are alot more cinematic looking . harder to use creatively as you need very good sturdy rigs for them, as you cant just hand hold these and expect it to look nice!!
