I regret selling my NX1 and all lenses last year. I sold it to also pay some hospital bills. But now thinking about buying another and the lenses again. Can't find anything else that has the hybrid features, and a lower price. GH5 is nice though.

It is exciting. There are many implications of improvement that could be seen with this. The most exciting one for me personally is having a more malleable file for post processing.
I don't suspect it's going to vastly change the charactistics of that "NX1 look" and I could only guess sharpness and detail are going to be more pronounced, which I'm not certain is good for filmic, but I'd rather have it and take it away than try to restore what's not there. It would be nice to see smoother gradients, less artifacts and macroblocking too. As far as noise, I'd rather let Neat Video handle that than Samsung.
I'm hoping edge fringing or chromatic aberrations are lessened as well. In my opinion it's this that makes something appear video-ish the most. Little in our real environment is ever "outlined" and I currently dread shooting trees against a sky in the background because of it.
Stand up response. Your humility with this is downright inspirational.

Regarding untouched footage - I am not sure why it should be problem. You can always claim to Samsung layers that it was all just joke and footage was captured by eg. RED camera and EXIF of DNG files has been edited   However I can understand your worries in case you will release that hack for public usage. Needles to say that Magic Lantern team thinks that tuning own cameras is completely fine in same way as you can tune your own car or whatever. Moreover there were 2 hacks for NX1 in past and I think both guys who developed them have not faced any legal actions.
I am sorry to say that but frame you have provided looks like heavily compressed and oversharpened H265. I really hope that real RAW sample is much better than this.

This definitely seems interesting but I am a little skeptical. I’m confused because I’m unsure if this is an in camera hack where you’ve figured out how to write motion or cdng files in the NX1 (or an equivalent like MLV) or if this requires something in post to complete the process? If it is internal I can only imagine you may have harnessed the Raw timelapse function or something? I don’t know... interesting either way and I look forward to the results. Any way it would work on an NX500?

Thanks. It was you @Andrew Reid who made me to buy this camera years ago. It was specially the Lisbon video...You were one of the guys not wining and criticizing the H265 (at that time not such popular in this industry), but encouraging people to give this camera a try. Thanks a lot.
Andrew, just give me some time to work on this...I tried to explain a few things and got provoked and insulted - because people probably not understandung what I mean. I'd like to share the work first...Above this, there are some serious legal aspects to consider - and there is no answer yet from a lawyer society specialized in this issues...
When this is done, I will share the RAW footage for evaluation. Please consider, I am a one man band when working on this - and got a live with many friends, family, sports, shootings, etc. After university-entrance diploma examinations, I will have some more time to spend on it.
Be assured, I'll share my results here.
BTW: Zero interest in financial compensation when working on this.

I would 100% agree with this statement. I haven’t used the GH5, but I have lots of experience with Sony, including full frame and APS-C bodies. Eterna alone is a massive factor in my opinion.

@kidzrevil I'm pretty certain what @cpc meant wasn't that you shouldn't ETTR - He's saying in order to keep exposure consistent,  rather than just ETTR as much as possible before clipping every time, it's better to overexpose by the same amount every time by rating the film speed lower. I agree - makes batch grading an actual possibility.

Yeah I am using a Sony battery grip on my A7s, and I also have one of those extension ones you can flip to 90 degrees on a tripod. My Pinky finger hangs over without them. But I do like the option to be able to use it either way. The A7xx cameras are an amazingly small package for FF. I love them.
I would love to have a Nikon D850 for an all arounder for travel, hobby. But man if you put any sort of Long native zoom on them they are just embarrassingly huge! Really m4/3 is sort of the only way to go if you are into long lenses. They are amazingly compact and pretty damn light.

Ehh in my case I am getting way too big LoL.

The main reason I see using them is to make damn fast lenses even faster. You take the Sigma 1.8 lenses and put them on a Speedbooster, you are a happy camper.
And a ASPC camera as a whole are cheaper to buy, and the native lenses for them are a lot cheaper than their FF counterparts. Plus the overall package probably weighs less on average also. Win, Win.

Not bad.  The 1080 does upscale to 4k nicely.  Here is a 3k to 4k upscale i did awhile back.  I still haven't found a camera that can match the color, detail, motion cadence of the 5DMK3 in raw unless I want to spend a fortune.  Canon could really truly rule everyone if they wanted.  It's such a tragedy.  :-(

The X-H1 (and X-T2) also does the 6K to 4K thing, so you get the same type of resolution with their 4K video as you do with the Sony bodies that do that. For me if it's between an X-H1 and an a6500, I'd take the X-H1 all day long, but it's a lot more money.

I'm trying to decide between using the Fuji system vs Sony full frame (a7 iii, a9, etc). At this point I think Fuji is winning, and it's 100% based on color.

At this point the quality of the final product rests solely on the person behind the camera. Pick you brand - Fuji, Sony, Panasonic, Canon, Nikon, etc - every single brand makes cameras and lenses that can produce incredible video (and stills). They all have their strengths and weaknesses, and they all will require you to adapt them to your workflow (or adapt your workflow to them). To me it's about picking what strengths and weaknesses are most/least important to me and what best fits the way I work.
Color is such a huge factor for me - I'm discovering it may be the most important factor, actually - assuming a camera can do the basics right. And when it comes to color, nobody can beat Fuji, in my opinion.
Yeah I think they released that along with the X-H1, and I've seen some people use it with great results. I haven't tested that yet, but I'd like to soon.
I actually used to use Blackmagic cameras. I had some Studio 4k cameras and then the Ursa Mini 4.6k. I shot with the film/log profile, but lately I'd rather just get good colors out of the body - log is often more work than it's worth, personally.

Well it is pretty hard to beat 4k output from a A6500. Just about the best there is. Now the 1080, well not as good, too soft, but 4k, finger licking good!
But I don't care what camera you have today, they all have their good points, bad points. If you like camera A that is the one for you, Camera B that is the one for me, on and on. We live right now in the best time there has Ever been for video cameras the average person can afford that was just a dream 3, 4 years ago. Maybe they were good then, and now they are cheap, and now good, no great ones are coming out left and right. Lucky us to be in this time frame.

The kids just look too red to me. But you are right different strokes. It just seems to me Fuji has taken a wrong turn from back in the days of the Fuji Finepix S2 Pro. Now that was color. This new one looks Digital as hell. But to me after the went from CCD sensors they all went down hill. The Original Olympus E1 was just beautiful also, and it was just like 5.1 MP. Very few new cameras other than Canon, have looked very good to me now. Well the Nikon D750 is great color wise. I guess it is their softness and CS that makes it happen with the Canon's..
Now my A7s is just funky looking to be honest, but I like it. So like you said, different strokes.

You could have mitigated the blown out sky by not backlighting your subject matter. Had you simply turned 90° or 180° you  (or had a bounce board) could have brought down your overall exposure and you wouldn't have had such a high contrast ratio. You had golden hour working to your advantage but didn't utilize it.
You have to be more selective with your staging when working with cameras that have limited dynamic range. It's about knowing your tools and how best to use them, instead of trying to force them to do something they weren't designed to do and then blaming it.
Please note: I'm using you and this post as a springboard for a teachable moment.

Man I am just not seeing what you are seeing Kid. Yeah, the Kids look pretty good I will give you that. On my monitor, yes it is calibrated, it just is muddy looking. No way it looked like that in real life. I know the buildings in the background are mostly gray but they are a drab grey. Not very, hell I don't know the word, exciting looking. Just not my cup of tea. I just am not impressed with this camera other than some B&W stuff I have seen.
But I know it is new, people will get better with it.

With the spreading use of gimbals and IBIS, good AF-C has become important.  Dual pixel AF is the benchmark.. to put it simply, it can put pro focus pullers to shame!
The importance of strong AF-C is even more important on Fuji cams as manual focusing is kind of dodgy with focus by wire lenses.
Actually I'd say this is Fuji's biggest setback for video imo.. I actually like performing a good manual rack focus and it's very hard to pull off (no pun intended) with focus by wire even with the best linear focus prime lenses.
So AF-C has to be great, ideally, flawless (a la Canon's DPAF).. nobody wants "OK AF-C" for video.. the slightest hunt or misfocus and your shot is ruined. So it's like get it right or leave it out.
XT2 with the latest AF-C update was really good. it remains to be seen if XH1 can match it at DR100..
As for the IQ.. the 200mbps codec really seems to make the image hold up better in post than the previous XT2 (100mbps) codec. This is especially true for FLOG where XT2 struggled a bit. Image here is very solid with low noise/macroblocking. There also have been comp tests which confirm this compared to Sony 100mbps XAVC.. Eterna is also a breeze to grade as stated above.
Solid AWB & overall color science is definitely Fuji's nicest asset IQ wise. It really shines in mixed light conditions where most other camera brands struggle/fail, while Fuji's seem to nail it every time. This is incredibly time-saving in post workflow..

Here’s some (very slightly) graded Eterna footage shot at 120fps.
I have a Sony A9 and a6500. I’ve owned an a7S ii and a7R ii. I can get the Sony footage to look this good (color-wise), but it takes a LOT of work, granted I’m no colorist. With the Eterna footage, it’s effortless - literally just a bump in saturation and contrast.
The dynamic range may not net quite as good, and the slow motion footage may be slightly more prone to aliasing, but color is far more important to me than those things - I believe color has a much more emotional impact when viewing video.
EDIT: Sorry for the double post of that video. I posted it a few days ago but my post was under moderation (just signed up for this forum), and I see now that it’s just been approved (on the previous page).
